"He ends every conversation with, 'I love you, Locks,'" Locksley said Tuesday. "He cares about people. He gets it. He makes everyone around him feel like they're super important. He's so talented. He makes everyone else feel like it's more about them than him. That's so important for a quarterback."

"Tua's got great hands," Locksley said. "Guys with great hands, it means the ball comes out quick. Different arm angles. He instinctively finds open guys. I don't know how he gets to that point sometimes. But the ability to process and get the ball out quick is impressive."

"He may start off a bit slowly but he learns more when he's out there doing it," Locksley said. "When he makes a mistake, on almost anything, he doesn't make it again."

"He has so much respect for Fitz," Locksley said. "He has said he's been such a help to him. He just raves about the guy. There is a lot of mutual respect for Fitzpatrick and how he's managed the situation. That's the perfect guy for him because Tua's competitive, but doesn't want conflict. Don't mistake Tua's smile for a lack of competitiveness. He wants to win at everything. He wants badly to win."

I'd actually be interested in knowing the last time a team made a QB switch that wasnt due to injury of some kind after back to back 20 point wins.

This team is on a playoff trajectory right now. Flores’s making the playoffs in only year two of this dramatic rebuild would be quite the feather in his cap, and he’s willing to risk that on a rookie quarterback and a quarterback change mid-season. Tua must be the real deal.

I remember when Jimmy Johnson was hired to replace the great Don Shula, a presidential news conference was interrupted to make the announcement. I also recall the look on Don Shula's face when a reporter asked him for his thoughts on the hiring of Johnson. Shula's response, "That's the first I've heard about it." That could have been handled better.

The big mistake there as well was that Shula should have been elevated into an administrative position with the team, assuming he would've taken it.

Just speculating, i dont think the dolphins are done making moves.

I got a feeling they will explore trading for a premier offensive linemen with our dolphins first round or second round pick. The houston pick is off limits as it is currently more valuable than our own pick.

What I don’t understand is, why didn’t they give him time against SF?

IMO, he should have played the entire fourth quarter against the Jets.

    Seriously guys? Why?

We're going to second-guess exactly how and why the Dolphins used the process that they did in order to reach this same point of making him the starter?

Okay. I get that. It just seemed like your question was more about why they didn't play him against SF rather than why they chose to bring him in now.

If this was pre-planned it makes the game in San Fran even more confusing honestly. I believe by that point the schedule had been changed and I'm sure our staff would be among the first notified.

That said, if it makes last week confusing too. Why only give him two throws if you know he will be starting your next game? Why not give him the whole 4th or half at least?

I'll also say what I said in the other thread. Sorry to double post but I want this to stand alone.

I'm glad we will get to see Tua, at the same time though the timing of this move is so strange to me.

From day one the message has been that Tua will start when he wins the job and is the best QB on the team. Obviously the coaches see him every day and maybe he is, but our offense has been a bright spot this year on most days and we are coming off back to back 20 point wins.

I REALLY hope this doesnt cause any division in the locker room. Not blatant anger, but a feeling from some players that Fitz got screwed and didnt lose his job at all is something I at least see as within the reasonable limits of human reaction.

Again I'm glad we will see Tua, we absolutely NEED to know what we have it.Its just that it would be easier to swallow if I thought Fitz needed to be benched.

I was kind of surprised that Tua didn't go in on our next to last possession in the Jets game with 8:37 left in the game. We were already up 24-0. I'll have to agree he should have gone in and played from there on out

I've had a day to think about this and i'm going against the grain at this point. Obviously we need to see what we have in Tua sooner than later. I'm not necessarily opposed to him starting at any point this year, but this comes as a major shock to me. We're winning games with Fitzpatrick. The team has cohesiveness at the moment. I'm not saying Tua isn't the future, and we did draft him with the fifth pick so I understand, but this seems a week or two premature in my opinion. What if he struggles? Then what? Do we ride it out with Tua and get pissed off because we could have possibly been a playoff team with Fitz starting? Obviously there will be some growing pains for Tua on the field. On the other side, if he struggles I guess we'll know what we have with him right? We'll have our answer? Or will we argue, wait around and give him another year to do his thing? This could get as dangerous as the Josh Rosen experiment. I personally think we killed Josh Rosens career. We almost killed Tannehills. We could easily kill Tua in ten weeks. I just don't know about this right now. I'm middle of the road..I guess. I understand both sides. But.. If it isn't broke, then why fix? Tua was developing, learning, sitting out his rookie season wouldn't have been all that bad of a thing. Then again, i'm tired of seeing high draft picks redshirted. We need to know what we have with him and if he's the future.
My other though on this is that THIS was the plan all along! I think there may have possibly been a pre-arrangement already in place. No preseason, so Fitz starts up until the bye week and after the bye week the job goes to Tua...Regardless of the record? That last part would be hard to believe. If we were sitting at 6-0 or 5-1 and we did this, I think a lot more of us would be in agreement on this being a bad idea. It's already hard to stomach with us being .500 and coming off back to back wins in dominating fashion. Everyone knew Fitz was just a placeholder for the time being, including Fitz himself, but this feels early and unnecessary. This should not come as a shock, yet it does to me under these circumstances. For me, it's not good enough if Tua can just "survive" the Rams much less the rest of the season. He's going to have to show that he can actually play at a high level. We're going to have to win some games, he's going to have to lead, and he needs to make me feel like as long as "we got Tua" on Sundays...We got a chance. Anything less than the feeling that a Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson gives you and we're going to have to find someone else. It doesn't matter what Houstons record is. They have Deshaun Watson at quarterback...They can hang with anyone in the league on any Sunday. Tua will need to give off that same feel. Lets hope we're getting a superstar at QB and not his brother Brucie from The Longest Yard.

Flores was very clear that they discuss this every week- it was not a pre-planned decision. This week they looked at everything and said, "Okay, he's ready." There's no mystery here....Flores told the plain, honest truth.
