Looking at this week's schedule. We want the Eagles, Chiefs and Packers to win for sure. There is one game were I'm not sure who I want to win and that's the Pats vs Texans. If the Pats win I can see them getting things going and ending up in the playoffs instead of us. On the other hand if the Texans win our draft capital tanks. What do you guys think?
The Texans' first-round pick becomes immensely more valuable if it's in the range in which the top QBs will be drafted (top 3 or 4 overall). That allows the Dolphins to trade back with that pick and still get who they want, while picking up a pick(s). And there may be a bidding war for that pick if it's in that range. Root for the Patriots.
I don't think we can win the Super Bowl this season, so I'm OK with the Patriots winning, as I also think the draft pick is more valuable than even making the playoffs. If the team gets to 10 wins, and misses the playoffs, I'd still look at that as overachieving compared to how I felt at the beginning of the season that they would do.
There were plenty of people, when we started winning games, who said it was going to be a disaster for our prospects in the Draft. We didn’t do so badly, though, did we, so as far as I’m concerned, we want results that help us during the season and allow Draft '21 to take care of itself. And who would ever want the pasties to win?
Their franchise player winning games and getting possible playoff experience in his first year is more important than any draft pick out there.
If they still had Brady at the helm, I'd be all in on the Texans too, but they just don't scare me as much as that is foolish for me to feel that way...but they don't. Go for the pick.
There are 5 teams at 6-3 in the AFC vying for 3 WC spots which means that realistically there is no way a 9-7 team is making the playoffs because that would mean 3 out of those 5 teams will lose at least 4 of their last 7. Way too improbable. That means 10-6 is probably a minimum for the WC and that may not guarantee it either. NE is 4-5 right now, which means they'd have to go 6-1 minimum to end the season to make the playoffs. There is no way they do that with the Cards, Rams, Dolphins and Bills still left to play. Not even sure they'd go 6-1 in previous years. So there's nothing wrong with NE winning. I vote for better draft pick.
Jesus God Mary and Joseph, some of you guys and this damned draft pick. We have TWO first round draft picks next year. There is no "need" the team has that requires a HIGH draft pick. in fact, some of you are going to lose your mind when Grier/Flores trade that draft pick to a team that's desperate to get us even more future draft picks. I want the Texans to win because I don't want ANY momentum for the Patriots. Cam Newton isn't all that impressive to me but Belichick still does and I don't want to give him any fodder to give his team any hope.
I do not care about that. Right now if Miami takes care of their business, they win the division. So if they do not win the division, Miami didn't take care of their business. If Miami takes care of their business, they have a better chance of making the playoffs than the Patriots. If the Patriots make the playoffs and Miami misses the playoffs, Miami didn't take care of their business. I would rather have a better first and second round pick than root for the Texans to help Miami in the playoff picture, when as of right now, Miami just needs to take care of their business to be in.
There's no need, but it can only help. If it's high enough, you can either pick a true blue chip player or trade back in the 1st, gather another 1st rounder for next year like you're saying, and still have 2 1sts in 2021. And no I wouldn't lose my mind over that. I think that would be smart. Right now I'm hoping for a top 5 pick because you can get the best WR prospect there, which many think is Ja'Marr Chase. Is top 5 realistic? Yeah. Jets and Jags have the top 2 spots, but it's hard to imagine the Chargers (currently at #5 before us) ending that high, and the Cowboys and Redskins play each other so we really could have a top 5 pick at the end. Have to admit I'm surprised at this possibility. Never thought Houston would be this bad.
For the first time in a very long time, it looks like we're in a position where we don't need 53 things to happen in the final month for us to somehow sneak into the playoffs. Flores has said over and over and over again that this team controls their own destiny and we take it one week at a time, every single week. Whatever happens outside of that is beyond Miami's control. With that said, I'm not the least bit worried what the Pats may or may not do to catch us in a playoff race. They're 2 games behind and if we give up that lead over the last seven weeks, then we probably weren't a playoff team to begin with. I'm not focusing on "getting there" anymore as much as I am winning the whole darn thing. So the best outcome for us would be the Texans losing....that's the only outcome that affects us directly. We have to stop looking in our rearview mirror worried about the Pats- as fans we need to start looking ahead because that's how a team controls their own destiny.
As long as we beat the Pats in NE and finish with a better record than them, I don't care if they beat the Texans.
Well, the Pats play the Bills in week 16 and that one could be critically important for us...so I suggest you have a talk with your heart and your brain to figure out which one is deceiving you, LOL.

If Miami would have lost to the Chargers that would have helped the pick. Glad the team fought for the win myself.
That's what many of us are hoping for, imagine if Texans and Jags finish 2-3, we get the 2nd overall pick, now Jets take Lawrence and we're up, chances are Fields won't make it past Jags so that's where the bidding can get crazy, either the Jags will trade up with us just to ensure they get Fields or another team that needs a QB will, either way we get a King's ransom.
Off course we want our team to win not get a better pick. Literally no one had suggested otherwise. Now would you like to give your input on whether or not a Patriots win is more beneficial or not than a Patriots loss?
Yes! I agree! To me, it's more important that we begin this by becoming a regular in the playoffs each and every season. The whole "Super Bowl or bust idea is rather short sighted in my opinion." You're basically expecting perfection or nothing and that isn't always how perfection (or your ultimate goal) is achieved! I think many of us forget that people actually have to learn things before they can become great at them. It takes time, and more importantly on the job experience. Getting this young team to the playoffs should absolutely be the goal.
Dream scenario is we pick #2, Lawrence refuses to play for the Jets AND Tua shows he's a great QB by year's end so that we can trade away the #2 for a massive haul of picks. Hell.. while we're dreaming throw a SB win in there (just one is OK). More realistically, if we can't get to #2 I'm not sure it matters so much whether we pick 3-6. (hopefully Lawrence seriously considers pulling an Elway or Manning to force a trade from the Jets.. can't stand that team)
As of right now Miami doesn't need the Patriots to lose to make the playoffs. I am not going to root against the better draft pick until Miami NEEDS the Texans to win.
I do! The Jets, Patriots and Bills can tie every game of their schedule, less ours of course for all I care. My signature says it all
