My favorite Fitz play was the option play. Not one Jet believed that Fitz was going to run with the ball. That play worked due to surprise.
It is not a false narrative. It has been his entire career. Though he is better when there is no pressure.
A lot of the teams that we've played have been far worse than they were expected to be at the start of the year., even the ones who suck. The Jets and Jaguars are a combined 1-32, lol. While the Patriots, 49ers, Chargers and Broncos are all a lot worse than most people expected in August. In December, the schedule gets much harder.
His entire career what? Hes only had two seasons where you can outright say he was bad. 2011 and 2016. The rest is pretty much average to above QB play in terms of turnovers.
You could pretty easily argue that Fitz has never been as good as his stats would suggest. He's made a career out of playing risky football, and tossing the ball up for grabs a lot more than a better QB probably would. Hence the magic/tragic nicknames. Based on his skills, Fitz really should have had a career more like that of someone such as Brad Johnson or Neil O'Donnell, but he figured out early that he wasn't going to stick around if he didn't maximize the chances that he got, and playing from behind a lot gave him chances to throw the ball vs soft coverage and pad his stats.
He has the nickname FitzTragic and FitzCeption for a reason. His career is one where when he is counted upon, he fails.
Yes because we should base our beliefs on catchy nicknames fans give. Come on man I know you can make a much better argument than that.
They are not that catcy of nicknames. They do fit his style of play. He plays gangbusters for a while and then he comes back to earth. He si a very streaky quarterback I just don't think it is a misnomer. Just looking at him over the years, he has earned those nicknames.
I'm just asking for specific years he was awful other than the two I mentioned since and including his time in Buffalo. All I see are the stats of a guy who everyone knows isnt elite, but is by no means turning the ball over at some insane unheard of rate. That was my only point.
I dont think it's fair to just say he throws risky passes. If a guy takes risky shots playing pool but hits them consistently hes considered excellent. I see no difference if the success with the style is sustained. Just to be clear I'm not saying hes fantastic. Just not awful.
Nice how you left out anyone we played that was good. The 49ers just beat the Rams. Pats just beat the Cards. Herbert is the new wonder boy in San Diego but he just gets dismissed when the "record" doesn't suit you. Every year you are going to get a couple of lower teams like Jets and Jags. Who has what you would consider a difficult schedule? Seahawks? Steelers? Have you looked at their schedules? These are the top teams in the league.
Okay I agree with your overall premise but that game against San Fran was an easy win. They were missing half their defense and their QB was too hurt to throw an accurate ball. I dont care who they beat because when we played they were decimated.
And how many 3 and outs did Fitz have at the weekend (more than a few) or long sustained drives (not that many I bet)?
We weren't injured against the Jets? Both starting RB's, one of our best receivers Williams, starting O Lineman out. Why is it everyone who isn't "your" team gets a pass?
Not having a dig at you Alex, as there's a few on this same argument but we aren't the only team that has benefited from facing a team missing players (I bet the Saints weren't complaining about facing the Broncos yesterday) - you can only beat what's in front of you? If we get to the playoffs because we've won a couple of games that may have been easier than first thought, I won't give that a 2nd thought.
I find it funny that there are Dolphin fans who complain about winning in this situation. How many times in the last 20 years as a Miami Dolphins fan have we lost games with a backup quarterback playing on the other injury-depleted team? How many games did we watch in frustration of not taking advantage of the one weakness of the other team?
I'm not sure you're understanding my full point because I agree with everything you just said. My point is I'm not going to say the 49ers was an unexpected win, anyone looking at the game before hand basically knew we had a great chance to win that game. When I'm evaluating the team I'm not saying we do or dont deserve anything, I'm just looking at the realistic scenario and describing what happened as far as I personally understand and view it.
I'm not sure where this reply even came from because it really doesnt have anything to do with what I said. Where did I mention the Jets game? If you want to specifically talk about the Jets we can have that discussion, I'm only saying the 49ers game was one any fan SHOULD have expected to win. That says nothing about any other game on the schedule.
Likely to be me getting the wrong end of the stick Alex, although none of the media outlets thought we were going to win that game (hardly an unusual situation though)
Ill give you that the media didn't think so. I dont really follow their predictions so it's entirely possible they didnt expect it, that wouldnt surprise me at all. I wasnt really counting them in the people who's opinions matter category LOL
