Todays pick. Made my first batch of homemade pickles this weekend, had enough cucumbers for 10 big jars. I like spicy pickles so these will actually save me some $$$ if they come out good. I'm having to up my canning game this year. My tomato plants keep breaking braches cuz there is so much fruit on them. another week or so I'm going to have dozens of ripe tomatoes to deal with. War on snails continues, those slimy little bastards killed all my green beans and moved on to the spinach. Coffee thing is only effective to a point. Beer traps work too. Need to try epsom salt next I think. Hope everyones gardens are growing well. Stay safe
That's awesome! We've gotten a handful of cherry tomatoes and a couple of small green peppers, and four tiny potatoes. That's it. But our dirt absolutely sucks, so there are just limits. My wife is set on doing a box garden next year.
nice. I lost a lot of my veggies, especially in my greenhouse. plants too crowded and got a full white fly infestation. trapped about 10-15K of them, but they were still too much. tossed out most of my veggies. still managed to get about 60-70 cherry tomatoes, potatoes are growing now, also got some asparagus, but that's it
For white flies spray all the leaves, especially undersides with soapy water, a tablespoon of dish soap in a 1L spray bottle works, safe for your garden and you, not for flies
yeah, i discoved it too late. it worked on lot plants outside greenhouse that became infested. just thinned out the gardens and sprayed. i have about 9 flower gardens and half of them became so thick with flowers that they didn't dry out between waterings. just spent two weeks thinning them out to build some more gardens. other problem i have is back part of backyard is next to wetlands, so tricky to keep things from getting to wet. I built a big raised bed about 20 ft long during quarantine to i can grow rasberries and blueberries at end of my yard.
The sun is shining again boys and girls. Time to get those gardens going again. I didn't mulch well enough at the end of they year last year so I've got a serious weed garden going. Not time to plant up here yet, but I'll be weeding and turning my dirt and mixing in da horse poop the next couple weekends. Arthritis is kicking my butt right now so we may be scaling back a bit this year but there is something healing about my gardening habit too so can't quit. It's kinda like fishing too, catching is the goal of course but fishing is success enough. Just do it!
My wife and I just decided that we're going to try a box garden this year. Our dirt is just too terminally terrible to grow anything in the actual ground. Its completely futile.
