Dolphins signed RB Malcolm Brown, formerly of the Rams. Brown, 28, doesn't move the needle and will not prevent the Dolphins from finding a more aggressive running back in the 2021 NFL Draft. In Los Angeles, Brown offered a veteran presence to a young depth chart like the one the Dolphins have at the moment. The favorite to start Week 1 is a rookie not on the roster. Brown has a career 4.0 yards per carry average. Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter Mar 16, 2021, 6:17 PM ET
He's better imo, but definitely not a GUY. As a backup to Harris/Etienne/Williams along with one of Gaskin/Ahmed he's ok. If they are looking to do another discount platoon squad though ...
Uninspiring signing IMHO. Would've been much happier had they signed Jamaal Williams. Ugh... And, no...he's not a GUY. He's a JAG (just a guy). That's the point. SMH. Hope the 'Phins brain trust has a bigger/better plan, because so far I'm not real impressed.
I was hoping for Jamaal Williams. If nothing else, Brown may just be a short yardage guy. How is his pass pro?
Never been a big fan. ‘Runs hard’ is about all you can say. 3rd string at best. All but certain we’re drafting an RB early with this signing.
He can put the ball in the endzone and he doesn't fumble. Strictly a platoon guy, but as such, he's good within that role. He's what we wanted that dud Howard to be I think. He's not an exciting pickup, but it's a small move that can have a good dividend. But in terms of adding weapons for Tua and increasing offensive firepower, he ain't it. If he's all we add to the RB position in FA and the draft? That would be a major negative mark to Grier for me. I do worry somewhat about pigeonholing ourselves at the position in the draft, but then again, if we get Harris, I don't particularly care. I do wonder, however, if there is something BIG coming down the pipeline. We have basically sat around watching our divisional rivals snap up very good players while we do nothing. It's frustrating because right now we don't see the plan.
Nice signing, we didn't have a short yardage back yet. Gaskin, Ahmad, Brown, now get either Harris or Javonte in the draft and I'm good to go when it comes to RB's.
I completely agree- not signing a big name for big money makes it more likely that we address RB in the draft. For me, that's always the way to go since you get maximum value on a low mileage ride.
