I felt we needed improvement in the middle of the line in pass protect, so get him signed.

    Ted Karras back to Pats:

Will we be swapping Centers with the Patriots?

I am a little surprised he went back to the Pats for that amount.

Miami featured him more than any other lineman on their year in review.

Really weird signing here. Thought Karras played decent enough to not want to take a step back. Maybe this is evidence that they like centers in the draft and plan on taking one.

That tells me that we're now eyeing a center in the draft....or we have a center on our roster already. The troubled dude we just picked up last week has played some center, maybe they like the chances of him turning things around fast.

Isn't that the dude who got the yips snapping in Baltimore?

If so, can't say I'm a fan. At all.

Seems like it maybe they want Dieter to compete for that spot. Was hoping for an upgrade, as of now they could have kept Karras imo., let’s see where we stand at the beginning of the season.

We trying to find diamonds in piles of crap. All these cheap middle road signing are infuriating to me we haven’t got better with any of them all have some questions on offer wife side of the ball for sure.

An if healthy signing then could be an upgrade.

Less health and more mental. Dude developed the habit of snapping the ball over Lamar Jackson's head multiple times. Like a golfer who forgets how to put or a baseball player who forgets how to throw to first.

    They rarely get it back.

Part of me wonders if he was signed more for playing Guard than center. The good news is the draft has a number of decent center prospects. Wouldn't be surprised to see us target one in round 2. The issue is that we aren't really checking off any needs here in free agency, so we are going to either be forced into need picks in the draft or go into the season with gaping holes and/or huge questions.

He does speak the truth if you look at baseball players, that's where I believe the term "yips" came from when a player had trouble making a simple throw where they had time to think about it, look up Mackey Sasser, was a catcher and he developed the yips throwing the ball back to the pitcher, it ended up killing his career. Steve Sax is another, he field a ground ball in what should be a routine out and sometimes it was anything but routine and I can't recall if he ever did shake it. Jose Altuve had the same issue this past playoffs.

I have heard of that happening to baseball players and golfers.

I haven't seen it happen to centers.

Rick Ankiel, Mark Wholers, Chuck Knoblauch. And of course there is Jon Lester who couldn't throw to first and ended up just rolling it instead of throwing it. :chuckle:

We don't know if he can't get it back.

In the past, which center forgot how to center?

We don't know he can either, until he either does or does not snap it 10 yards above Tua's head into the end zone. He certainly didn't get it back last year.

People with the yips in general often see it take years to fix, if ever. I wouldn't really be counting on this guy. If the contract was super cheap it may be worth a flier, especially if he can be a decent to good guard, but it certainly doesn't preclude the position as being one of need.

Thing is it doesn't really make sense for it to happen to a center because the yip is a result of having too much time to think about making the upcoming play and for a center, he has a lot going on before the snap like the snap count, audibles, who has to block and watching out for blitzes....etc

According to him it was because he had a cut on his hand. I don't know if that was an excuse, but adjusting due to hand injury is a reason for having issues with snapping.

I have watched enough football to see centers have a few bad games and snap high. Happened to Pouncey when he was here.

I don't really remember a center just forgetting how to snap. I have heard of it happening in baseball, but I just haven't seen it in football.

I'm interested to see the difference in numbers for the Skura and Andrews deals. The two are similar in the sense that they both dealt with adversity in 2019, a medical condition for Andrews that cost him the whole year and a bad knee injury for Skura where he tore his acl, pcl, and mcl. Given the extent of Skura's injury I'm willing to give him a pass for his play last season and I expect a better performance this year. Andrews didn't play as well as he normally does but he was likely a bit rusty so with another year into his recovery from blood clots I expect him to play better too. The problem is even before his injury Skura really wasn't all that good. Andrews on the other hand pre blood clots was damn good. All that to say I would've paid a little more for Andrews but he might have wanted too much.

    We'd better draft a center.

    Slightly left of center
Gimme Humphrey, Slater or Dickerson at 18 And I'm happy. Been begging for us to draft a stud C forever, this yr we have a real shot at it. And add a MLB to cpt the D for 10 yrs and I don't care where they are picked. Pick Humphrey #3 and I'm OK. Skura ain't the future.
