The PFF guys review mock drafts from Mel Kiper Jr., Daniel Jeremiah, and then their own PFF mock.

Miami at #3 pick Smith, Chase, and Sewell.

I loved what TO had to say about Tua. Hopefully after another year to heal as well as having a full off-season of preparation will enable him to return to that level of excellence.

On NFL Network, Bucky Brooks has us taking Chase at #3 and Harris at #18.

    I would be pleased!

I get that. I also get people worrying about Smith’s size. I think both are gonna be studs, but in different ways. Just give me Harris. It may be “over drafting” a RB...but he and either of those receivers immediately improve the offense.

Not blaming him, just saying that drafting a guy that high who hasn't played a game in a year, which may mean he is incredibly rusty, bothers me.

    I can respect that.

That’s the problem with most of the players projected to be available at #3. They all seem a little flawed if you’re not taking Sewell. If we can’t trade back, it comes down to a player who has the measurables but sat out vs a guy who lit the world on fire but is small.

Action had us with Sewell and Parsons. Follow up with Etinene or Williams and WR like Terrence Marshall. Could be a great draft.
I'm hoping we can trade down and get another 2nd so we can pick up LB Surratt.

    Ryan Wilson - CBS:

2021 NFL Mock Draft: Bengals get Joe Burrow best pass catcher in class, Steelers target RB in Round 1 - CBSSports.com

    Round 1 - Pick 3
    Penei Sewell OL
    OREGON • JR • 6'6" / 330 LBS
    PROJECTED TEAM
    Miami
    PROSPECT RNK
    2nd
    POSITION RNK
    1st

Dolphins rookies Austin Jackson and Robert Hunt saw plenty of playing time in 2020, but Sewell is one of the best players in this draft class and immediately upgrades the O-line in front of Tua Tagovailoa, who according to GM Chris Grier, remains the face of the franchise.

    Round 1 - Pick 18
    Rondale Moore WR
    PURDUE • SOPH • 5'9" / 180 LBS
    PROJECTED TEAM
    Miami
    PROSPECT RNK
    22nd
    POSITION RNK
    4th

Moore is undersized and he's only played in seven games the last two seasons, but could end up being the most dynamic player in this entire class. He is a YAC machine and could make life easier for Tagovailoa, who likes to get the ball out quickly and let his pass catchers do the heavy lifting.

Moore at 18 seems way too high for me. I’d be comfortable taking him with one of our 2nd rounders, preference being #50.

I go back and forth on Sewell at #3. Had we not spent so much draft capital on OL last year, I’d do it in a heart beat. But if he’s a sure fire all pro, you have to do it and address skill position players later

"6. MIAMI DOLPHINS (VIA EAGLES): WR JA’MARR CHASE, LSU
If Miami doesn't want to get uber-aggressive at upgrading the quarterback position with their No. 3 pick, trading back to acquire more high-end talent in future drafts and still land a star wideout like Chase puts them on the fast track to surrounding Tagovailoa with enough talent to succeed. The former LSU wideout is currently PFF’s No. 1 wide receiver and No. 5 overall player in the 2021 class. He also earned the third-ranked PFF receiving grade (91.3) in college football at just 19 years of age as a true sophomore in 2019."

"18. MIAMI DOLPHINS: EDGE GREGORY ROUSSEAU, MIAMI (FLA.)
Rousseau is far from a polished prospect, but the former Miami (Fla.) defender is a high-end athlete with ridiculous size and length for the position (6-foot-6, 260 pounds). He earned a 76.2 PFF grade playing up and down the line of scrimmage for the Hurricanes in 2019 and can immediately step in as a chess piece in Flores' defense while he develops his pass-rushing skill set."

Same. Moore has some crazy upside, but the size and the bust potential push him out of round 1 for me. Late second round guy.

I 100% agree with your take on Sewell. Positionally, a LT makes a lot more sense than a WR. The last top 3 WR was Megatron back in 2007 and none of these dudes are Megatron. If we REALLY want a WR, we just have to trade back at least a few spots.

One way that I'm trying to frame a Sewell pick in my mind is A high/mid tier free agent WR, Sewell at 3 and a second/third round WR. Someone like Terrance Marshall, Rondale Moore, D'Wayne Eskridge. Maybe toss in Najee at 18 ... that's a good draft with impact players who can rev up that offense. But man that is a lot of draft capital to dump into the OL in a short amount of time.

Isn't he the dude that's played like one season on defense? It's all about potential and athleticism with him I think. Not sure if he's a scheme fit for us though.

It would have been two years ago.

Looking at his stats that year, it doesn't look like he was beating on the worst teams. He had 19.5 TFL and 15.5 sacks. This could be just 4 TFL due to not knowing if they count sacks as TFL in college.

I’d be ecstatic if we took Sewell at 3, got Toney or Bateman at 18, addressed LB/DE at 36 with Basham, Phillips or Collins and then got Moore at 50. Add the 3rd/4th best FA WR and we should be good to go.

Would be hard to complain about that one! Man I'd love to try and work Creed Humphrey into that mix as well, though he may end up rising into round 1.

Ironically, I think that outside of #3, we have a lot of flexibility and ways we could go.

Completely agree, especially about Humphrey. That is what’s so attractive about trading back and picking up another 2nd rounder. He looks like a mauler and also has that wrestling background which means he’s got a mean streak.

To your point, there’s so many ways we can go to get better:
    1) add playmakers
    2) improve our OL
    3) make our defense elite
    4) any combo of those

Mike Renner has a 3 round mock out - https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2021...wilson-jets-san-francisco-49ers-justin-fields

    For the Dolphins he has:

    3. MIAMI DOLPHINS (FROM HOUSTON TEXANS) — OT PENEI SEWELL, OREGON
While this could be a trade-down spot, you’re not always going to be in a position to take a prospect of Sewell’s caliber — and that’s because they don’t even exist in every draft. Teams weren't just evidently desperate at the quarterback position this offseason; they were desperate at the tackle position, too.

    18. MIAMI DOLPHINS — EDGE AZEEZ OJULARI, GEORGIA
The Georgia product is the first edge off the board, and it’s because of scheme-fit more than anything else. Ojulari can fill the shoes left by Kyle Van Noy’s release while also being able to win one-on-one as a pass-rusher more consistently. His 91.7 pass-rushing grade in 2020 was the highest of any edge defender in the draft.

    36. MIAMI DOLPHINS (FROM HOUSTON TEXANS) — RB JAVONTE WILLIAMS, NORTH CAROLINA

    50. MIAMI DOLPHINS — WR KADARIUS TONEY, FLORIDA

    81. MIAMI DOLPHINS — IOL TREY SMITH, TENNESSEE

I'm not big on mocks this season since I do not believe that we'll pick at #3 (unless we have to). I think we'll trade back multiple times to keep those 1st rounders coming next season.

As for who we pick once we are on the board, I'm hoping for a "sexy" early draft of WR and RB. But it's entirely possible that we don't target any of those positions and continue to build the defense, the trenches, etc. I really have no idea what to expect other than trading back.

If the defense is at the same level as it was in 2020, Miami would be fine on that side of the ball. It's really tough to move from good to great. On the other hand, the offense was.... average at best in 2020. It is MUCH easier to move from average to good. I'd take Good defense and good offense, over great defense and average offense most of the time.

Balance out the team so both sides of the ball are good, then look at making one side great in future drafts.

I completely agree- I would personally go all offense the first few rounds. But I feel like our franchise is much more focused on value and long-term positional players to build around, so they'll take the guy who brings the most upside...regardless of position.

Then again, we're not studying every position like the pros do. For instance, I can't tell you the talent gap between the nation's best collegiate safety and 2nd best safety. But I think Flores knows that stuff inside and out to make informed highly decisions throughout the draft. I bet we do end up picking a defender in the 1st because it will be the best in the country at that position. Who will it be? I have absolutely no idea...but I do trust our front office to make the proper evaluations and take the biggest upside player.

My draft would be (1a) Pitts, (1b) Harris, etc. and that's what most of us want...there's just no way to tell if that's realistic or not. I am thinking the 1st pick will be WR or OT but it's purely a guess.

I wouldn't hate that, but if DE Kwity Paye/Jason Oweh is there at #18 I might go with improving the pass rush. Stopping the other team and getting even ONE extra possession in a game can be the difference in a win versus a loss. I'd be okay with Javonte Williams at #36, but if Harris was still there at #27 or later, I'd try and trade up to get him (as high up as a fourth rounder + a 2022 fourth would get us).

Lack of production scares me off most of those edge defenders at least in round 1. How about Dayo Odeyingbo in round 4 knowing he likely will not play until late in 2021?

Maybe Rashad Weaver in the third? If they decide the first round talent at DE is iffy, then getting a guy to develop for a year is a good option. Maybe two guys actually, so yeah I could live with back-to-back defensive picks in rounds three and four.

Grier has been clear they're always looking for value, and I've been of the opinion that we're most likely trading back from #3. Of course, that depends upon what's being offered - a king's ransom is a king's ransom. However, playing around with the mock drafyt simulators it's becoming clear that if you see a few of these players as being truly special, the best value might be in picking one guy that you love at #3.

If Grier thinks that Sewell or Pitts or someone else is truly a special, special player, then that might be the best value move at #3.

Absolutely. If we believe any player at #3 is far and away better than the next player on our board, we have to make the pick. Personally, I think this draft will be won by a team making several picks between #10 and #100. We already have four in that range and after grabbing so much youth in last year's draft, we might not want a fifth.

If we pick ANYBODY at 3 we're throwing trainloads of value away. Sewell, IMO, isn't good enough for the value that position holds in THIS year's draft. He has weaknesses in his game (run blocking) that wouldn't help us one bit. I'd much rather Christian Darrisaw where he'll be available. The value that draft spot holds this year, for me, I want an automatic, no-brainer RoY/pro-bowl level starter off the bat...if that's not there (and I'm not convinced it will be at 3), I'm harvesting picks, trading down twice at least, once if its a massive haul and still top 10...maybe. SO many teams looking for a QB in this draft, multiple trade-downs should be a realistic possibility.

Championship teams are built through shrewd, pragmatic moves in the draft, and not usually through top 3 picks (save for QB)...and we have a very unique shot of raking tons of picks/players from that one spot, and we happen to be in the position where we're not 100% sure we won't need to look QB in the next few years...future 1sts would be some nice insurance.
