She is clearly speaking hypothetically as the Dolphins GM. She says "if I have doubts, I'm taking a quarterback" and "if I don't have doubts which clearly there is no indication of, I'm trading down". Then Florio asks if anyone is even worth it after Lawrence and Wilson, which never gets answered. Then they talk nonsense about Watson maybe one day being a Dolphin down the line. Again, tell me where someone definitely wants to draft a quarterback at #3?
How about you try to stop doubling and tripling down on what was a silly point and admit that some people think that drafting a QB at 3 could have a genuine argument in its favour? What are you talking about when you say she's speaking hypothetically? Of course she is. We all are. These are all hypothetical discussions. She is clearly and simply saying that IF the Dolphins have any doubt about Tua then they should take a QB at 3, IF NOT they should trade down. There's nothing unreasonable about that. Whether anyone else is worth it after Lawrence and Wilson is irrelevant for this thread because if you're paying attention, I said I'd take Lawrence or Wilson, not anyone else. And then Watson is also mostly irrelevant. Glad you pointed that out - although I'm curious what it was that you were referring to in your last post when you asked if I watched the rest of it, and now you come back to her point. How about you just let it go and admit that some people have different opinions to yours and that on this point, I'm not the only person on the planet who thinks a QB at 3 should be a consideration.
IF Lawrence was available at three, then i'd take him in a heartbeat and figure it out later, but he wont be. Besides, i'm in the boat that says give Tua a full season to show us what he's made of. So to answer the original question, I voted Sewell, simply because he's the best player at his position, which is also a position of need for us, AND he's the safest possible pick at that spot. We can't go wrong drafting him unless he gets injured. With that said, i'll be fine with whatever the team decides to do. I like Smith, Pitts, and Parsons as well. I'm actually more intrigued by what we will be doing with our 18th pick at this point. But it's Sewell for me at three if I had to choose. Build an elite offensive line and we will always have a chance to win games. Allow Tua the chance to grow to his maximum potential and he'll be able to do that if he's kept upright and has time to throw. I think you look at Russell Wilson who was no more than a game manager his first couple of season in the league. He had a great defense, and he was well protected along with a strong running game. Eventually over time he adapted and figured out how to get even better. Now he literally carries the entire Seahawk franchise on his back. I'd like to see Tua take the same route. The key in my book is to have an incredible solid O line.
Here's 88 mock drafts: https://walterfootball.com/draftdata.php Oh wait, of the ones updated in the last 2 months, there is one guy named "DRAFT ID HICKS" that has the Dolphins drafting a QB. Very reputable. You have some company. lol Again, anyone with half of a brain and any football knowledge isn't considering the Dolphins taking a quarterback this year.
Yeah, just repeating your argument again doesn't really prove your point. Especially after abandoning whatever point you were trying to make about the clip I posted, and then essentially changing your argument from 'no one is saying that' to 'no one who I think is reasonable is saying that'. Just give it up.
I made my point very clear about the video clip. Florio and random lady didn't make any declarative statement about the Dolphins taking a quarterback at #3 unless hypothetically the Dolphins have thoughts internally. I found one mock draft on the entire internet where some schlub has Miami taking a quarterback. Technically you win.
No go on. Your clear point wasn't at all clear. I asked you about it. You didn't respond. What exactly would you expect her to say? It's a non-argument. IF the Dolphins are 100% set on Tua then obviously they aren't going to take another QB. IF they aren't certain about him then she said she WOULD take a QB, not that she might consider it. There's nothing weird about any of that. Yet you dismiss that argument. You fail to engage with other arguments here or with others here who also would consider a QB at 3. And then come up with some fallacious point that there's one guy on the internet who agrees with me. Do you not understand that you can disagree with someone's reasoning and yet still acknowledge them to be reasonable? You think it's a stupid move. That's okay. I get it. No big deal. But the idea that there is no merit to any of it and only two hermits on the internet would even consider it, is just wrong. Let it go.
I think we will have the Saints, Bears and the Panthers giving us phone calls to trade up. And we should listen to their offers..
Are you talking about moving down from #3, or from #18? Moving down as far as the Bears or Saints from #3, we'd be losing out on not only the top tier talent, but the second tier as well. It would take something like their 2022 and 2023 first rounders, plus something else. Especially New Orleans, all the way down at #28. At least trading down to #8 with Carolina, you'd be able to get one of the second tier players, or likely one of the five best non-QBs. Its still a big gamble, in my book. Not coming out of the draft with one of Sewell, Pitts, Chase or Waddle, even with a trade that nets us a 2022 first rounder plus other considerations, would be a real gut punch.
Carolina? I'm all ears. Chicago? Man, it better be one sweet offer. New Orleans? I don't think there's enough draft capital to make that deal happen. But, I'm still willing to listen.
The difference is that Diggs and Hopkins had reached the end of their relationships with their then head coaches. There's no indication that's happening in New Orleans.
I'm not willing to trade back 17-25 spots. If Carolina or Denver is calling, I'm definitely ready to make a move. Hopefully we're not in a position to draft in the top 5 again for a long time. I want an impact player. Someone who is all-pro potential. I feel like Chase, Pitts and Sewell have that potential. I don't think you find them outside the top 10. If we had 8-10 glaring holes on our team, you could make a case to trade outside the top 10. As I see it, we are a pass rusher, healthy impact WR/TE, 1-2 OL and a QB away from being a contender. We have enough draft picks in the top 50 to plug 4 of those holes with impact players. If Tua and our OL develops, then really you need a pass rusher, WR/TE and could start addressing positions like RB or S.
It's a little bit disappointing, that there is no real premier edge rusher a la Chase Young in this draft and the overall talent seems to be slim. I like Paye, but besides him, I don't really know there is no one that screams take me...
For me, the argument over drafting a QB at #3 is not taboo...it really just comes down to film and if one player is showing something Tua is not. I think that's the case with Lawrence and there would be some temptation there if he somehow fell to #3. Wilson is also very interesting- I'm not sure if his film makes him more appealing than Tua, but there's a unique skill set there and you can see elite intangibles with how he throws on the run. Jacksonville is 100% drafting a quarterback so one of those names are gone. Meanwhile, the Jets appear to be drafting a QB as well, but they're also high on Sewell and they're still pushing hard for DeShaun Watson. We have no idea who the Texans like in this draft, so there are a few ways Wilson could be there at #3. Yet, if he is there, the offers we receive are also going to be a heck of a lot more intriguing. I'm very confident that we'd trade back with anyone but NE for that king's ransom. I don't think any of the other QB's in this draft are appealing enough for Miami to take at #3; maybe at 18 or 36 if we want another young gun in the stables, but recent mocks even have players like Trask going late in the 1st round...he should be the 5th to 7th QB off the boards despite being a Heisman finalist. And I really think #18 is going to have so much value in this draft due to the run on QBs that we'll get a top-12 player there. So unless we somehow fall into temptation and take Wilson at #3, I don't see us taking a QB at all in this draft.
That's a big part of why I don't want to move from #3. I think that from about 6 or 7 into the high 20s, there isn't a whole lot of difference.
The talent is massive in this draft- it just happens to all fall on the offensive side of the ball. There's a real chance that not a single defender goes in the top-10. There's Parsons at linebacker and a few impressive CB's, but no genuine potential HOF type defensive prospects at the top of the board. Plus the run on QB's (probably 4 or 5 in the top 10) means someone is dropping that shouldn't drop.
I don't really feel the same way. There are a few WRs, a couple of RBs, one great QB, one great TE, and a few good OL. Beyond that, I think that the depth of this year is less than most recent drafts, personally.
I should have clarified- I think the talent pool is large in the top 8-10 picks, plus guys like Etienne and Harris who won't be at the top of the board. To me, that makes the top 12 a lot more valuable than comparable years. It's a strange year anyway since a lot of names in the draft took a year off...are they all even in shape?
With the guys who opted out, that's a very fair question. Especially due to there being no combine this year. Its even more of a gamble and a crapshoot than typical. But otherwise, I think that it comes down to personal opinion and preference. I like Etienne and Williams a lot, but I think that both of them are second round types at RB. There isn't a clear, franchise type RB in this class at all. And I'm far, far lower on the WRs than most other people are.
Well one thing that i have pointed out before, as someone who follows college football more than any other sport.. Next year’s quarterback prospects will be nowhere close to this years.. hell there may not be a quarterback taken in the Top 20 in 2022. And if there is it will be a desperate reach. It will be the weakest class in 20 years..
I ment defensive ends in my context when I was talking about overall talent, besides Paye no one really intrigues me.
I agree...no one else really jumps out as early round edge talent. A few interesting DL and CB, but defense as a whole sort of took this draft off.
Even if we were going to take a QB at 3, I wouldn’t want it to be him. I’d take Wilson in a heartbeat. Anyone thinking Parsons after his pro day today?
No I don't like fields either.I was just pointing out that other people in the world think we should take a QB despite what certain people say on here.
I've had a quick check of various scouting reports for both Parsons and Oweh. There are more question marks about Oweh than Parsons, so it would seem he is the #1 Edge/LB. I think I'd still take Sewell and Pitts first, but then Parsons. I might even take Parsons over Pitts if I knew I could get some solid receiver talent too.
I feel a trade back is coming. Either Philly at 6 or Carolina at 8. Then I hope Chase is still there.
Parsons still has zero votes...wonder if folks will change their vote at all after the Pro Day. Oweh is definitely more of a prospect since he had a lot of pressure but zero sacks.
A LB in the top 5 is a hard sell. I'd say no. He's also got some character concerns, which in the top 3 ... no. Maybe if we trade back with Carolina, Denver or San Fran.
