DeVonta Smith or Kyle Pitts as a Gators fan. We just gotta run an offensive scheme chalk full of 2-TE sets cause we also got Gesicki of course still who looks like a pro-bowler when Fitzmagic was throwing to him. :/
I want Pitts to be the pick at #6, but then I'd turn around and try to trade Gesicki. He'll be an expensive free agent a year from now, and he doesn't offer anything that Pitts cannot.
I’m excited to see them both on the same field at the same time and how in the hell defenses would try to stop that. As long he doesn’t expect Kelce/Waller type money, I’d love to have that for 4-5 more years.
Only way it makes sense is if players they were targeting at 6 get drafted, they see a drop off with the next players and want to pick up additional picks.
What if they get more than they traded? Atlanta is a wildcard. If Pitts and Chase are gone by 6, I wouldn’t be opposed.
Unless they see something special in Parsons, but Sewell is probably the safest/best pick even though it‘s not really exciting.
If they go Sewell there, who are you targeting at 18? I'd venture a guess that if they don't get a playmaker in the first round, this board would be full melt down. Personally, I'd be ok if they went Sewell and then Phillips/Paye/Oweh/best pass rusher. Then target Bateman/Toney/E. Moore in the 2nd round.
Honestly, this is a hard selection to mess up at 6 given the board. The real trick is to do something special afterward. Trade back at 18 and land more selections, or trade up and grab a WR like Waddle or Smith around 10-12. We have a lot of "good players" right now. Add a few Special playmakers like Pitts, Chase, Smith, etc and suddenly we are really dangerous on offense.
I completely agree- Pitts, Chase or Sewell...one or more will be on the board at #6 and all are excellent long-term value. If the pick ends up being Sewell, then maybe you try moving up for Smith or Waddle. I have a feeling that Sewell will be off the board though and we'll get exactly what most here are hoping for- Pitts is probably the odd man out that drops to us. I've seen more and more mocks that have us taking Smith at #6, but I don't think that's the path we take. As I've said numerous times, I do believe that he's the best overall receiver in this draft but I feel like the three names above bring slightly more value. I'm personally in love with Chase and he'd be my pick if he's available.
I like what you’re putting down. 6) Sewell 18)Paye 36) Dyami Brown That would be my ultimate draft ! Wouldn’t hate Phillips at 18 either, but prefer Paye If he is there.
I definitely look at trade offers from the Panthers and Broncos if Fields is there. I would be okay dropping and picking up Parsons or Waddle at 8-9 plus anyone one else who falls. I think you have to make that trade if it involves another first round or early second round pick.
I have been completely on board with Smith at 6 however I've been watching more tape on Pitts. I think I'm changing my choice to Pitts. He can do everything that we could get out of Chase and he is a really strong route runner that gains separation, not to the degree Smith does but well enough. The main thing I want is a receiving target that is a strong route runner and can generate separation. Pitts and Smith are the best I've seen at that. Everytime I watch Chase he seems to run mostly about three routes and wins with his body size. We already have some guys that are in that mold.
If we're at 6 and Pitts and our WR of choice are there, or possibly Sewell, then we trade up from 18 and secure 7 or maybe 8. Then we pick twice. Pitts and Smith or Sewell and Pitts. If we can only pick one then Pitts, then Smith, then Chase, then trade back.
Unless something bizarre happens, best WR available. For example If it goes QB, WR (Jets be Jets), QB, WR, WR then Sewell has to be hard to bypass and trade offers might become frenetic.
If we can get good value for Gesicki (which I think theoretically we should) a 2nd... I'd take Pitts in a heartbeat. I'm a Gator I know first hand what he's capable of, I just hope his skillset transitions to the pros well. But if we can't trade Gesicki before we draft for some reason.. then I'm upgrading a position of pretty desperate need. But of course, if we get a 2nd for Gesicki then the Pitts pick makes a lot more sense for us, as we can either get a WR at 18 (see if one of the top guys slides) or wait til the 2nd. We have options, if Grier keeps making the right plays in tradsies. I think the guy is great for that. I just hope he can prove to me he can consistently make good picks, cause I don't believe I've seen that yet. And to be fair we're gonna have to wait all the way to 2024 to see if he made enough good picks to build a champion/regular contender.
Because he's going into the last year of his contract and will likely be expensive to resign. Better to get something for him now than to let him walk a year from now.
I’m with you. As long as he isn’t trying to break the bank/wants above market value money, why not have two, really tall TE’s who are athletic enough to move out and play WR occasionally? I just don’t know how most defenses could defend that. Plus Tua would have 2 big red zone targets.
Are you going to pay him 10-15m a season? Because that's going to be what he and his agent ask for. I'm not even talking about what Kittle or Kelce are making. Jonnu Smith has cap hits of 13.7, 14.7 and 15.7m from 2022-24. Austin Hooper has cap hits of 13.2m in 2022 and 2023. Hunter Henry has cap hits of 15.0m in 2022 and 2023. Gesicki will be looking for those numbers, and we're going to have to pay that or let him walk for nothing.
With salary cap projections looking to jump $50 million in the next two years, I can see Miami paying that much for Gesicki. Without having to pay Tua they can splurge a little on some areas.
I guess we'll see how he plays this coming season. If there isn't a marked improvement from last year, I'd much rather put that money towards a WR like Juju.
He has improved every season. I don't see why he would stop now. He is well liked on the team and fits in talent and culture. I don't see a good reason to get rid of him. I tend to want to keep the good players on the current team rather than chasing the good players on others.
Broadly speaking, I agree with you. And I do like Gesicki and want him to do well. But to this point, the sum of his parts seems to be less than it should be. He's tall and he's fast, he makes amazing highlight catches, but he moves akwardly, cuts and turns poorly, and makes far fewer "regular" catches than he should.
He can only catch what is thrown at him. He is open on a decent amount of "regular" catch type plays. Both Tua and Fitzpatrick tend to over look him for another receiver.
That very well could be true. I'm also hoping that Tua makes huge strides in that area this season. Take what's there and stop trying to force big plays downfield and/or YAC.
I'd be stoked if Tua actually started throwing downfield. I felt like last year he wasn't throwing downfield, and that was why his ints were so low. So, I'd take more ints if that meant that Tua was actively attacking downfield.
I am at a point, where I don’t want a specific player, there are a few I really like. I would be happy with Pitts, Chase, Sewell or Smith at #6 and maybe Parson, nothing else for me at 6 though.
U can't trade Gesicki before draft because we have no guarantees Pitts will be on board when we draft.
