I get news that The Dolphins will do this that and the other thing "new news" every day on my phone. I don't even look at it anymore its so tiresome. It's all speculation, draft day can't come soon enough. I pray I don't end up on the fire Grier bandwagon, but if he blows this draft, it should be inevitable. He targeted the overhyped (wrong) QB last year that we're gonna have to make due with until he either improves or falls on his face. If he had targeted Herbert like I.... Wanted, we'd be in a much better position already. I knew he was better than Tua, I knew he loved football more than Tua. I knew his skills would translate to the NFL better than Tua. Chris Grier gets paid big bucks to make these decisions, and I'm making the right ones for free. I'm about at that point where Stephen Ross should hold a poll on who the best Dolfan to represent us in the draft should be, and pull the trigger. Course, that billionaire cuck doesn't have the balls to do anything that bold in football operations.
I'm definitely feeling draft analysis fatigue. It's harder to find avenues of consideration that feel worthwhile. Bring on the selections! (As long as they're good ones!).
Me too...I don't want to speculate anymore or read additional articles. We've talked our top potential six picks inside and out, debated the strengths/weaknesses of each, and even talked out the QB's that we definitely won't draft. I'm just over it....let's pick already! Or trade back, or trade up, or whatever we're going to do! I just looked- it's still a full week away! LOL, I don't want to wait another week....I thought it was today!
Agreed, I think we all have our opinions on who we should be picking and where at this point. Now it’s time to sit back, relax and see what Grier decides to do.
Only thing that annoys me about fans that brag about their supposed right picks they wanted is they don't have to worry about accountability when they are wrong which they usually are. Look how many fans *****ed about Ted Ginn for years but ignored that they were originally upset because it wasn't Brady Quinn.
It's very easy to look back at least year's draft and say, "Oh, I would have picked that guy, this guy and the other guy...and they're all stars now!" That's what frustrates me.
I think everyone was upset that it was Ted Ginn, Brady Quinn or no. Ginn was a mediocre player who wasn't worth a first-round pick and everyone knew it.
There is no question it seemed like an obviously bad pick but the reality is the fanbase wanted someone who had a much worse career and someone who would have been an even worse pick. My point is that every NFL fan is a genius when the draft comes around and not one of them has ever wanted a player who ended up being a bust.
People love jumping on bandwagons. I still don't believe in Herbert. He was good as a rookie. I want to see him take the next steps before saying he is quality starting NFL quarterback. Last year was not good enough to be a long term starter in this league. He needs to make signficant strides. Plus, how did you know he loved football more than Tua? That is a ridiculous statement.
Yeah, that's what we call a "straw man argument." It's not true. You're setting up a straw man to make you look correct, but you're not. Yes, a lot of Dolphins fans were so desperate for a QB that they wanted Brady Quinn, but the fact remains that they also wanted Drew Brees (twice, once in the draft, once in FA) and were right. They wanted Matt Ryan and were right. They wanted Aaron Rodgers and were right. And hell, even Brady Quinn might not have been the huge bust he was in Cleveland if he'd gone ANYWHERE else. I mean, it was Cleveland.
I am not arguing that fans are never right. I am saying they pretend to be always right. Brees in FA is the perfect example as there was plenty of debate on whether it should be Brees or Culpepper but there isn't a single fan that will admit now that they wanted Culpepper.
Herbert wasn't just good as a rookie. He was great! Amazing really. Especially considering the circumstances that led up to him being the put in as the starter. I mean, the kid just took the job and never looked back. He set all kinds of rookie records in many passing categories, and was named the offensive ROY. He was clearly the better choice at #5. And, even if there is some regression this season on his part, Tua would have to take a HUGE step forward from what he showed last season to make it even close. All that said, I'm pulling for Tua because he seems like a good kid and I want to see him (and the team) succeed more than I want to be right about knowing for myself that Herbert was the better QB prospect coming out. Go Phins!
He looks after 1 year to be the better choice at #1 also but nobody really would have thought that 12 months ago without being laughed at.
Hard to argue with that. All the more reason to be frustrated with taking Tua over Herbet, don'tcha think?.
You might not have known them but many did. It would be revisionist history to pretend it was overwhelmingly in favor of Brees at the time.
Sure especially if he does end up having the better career which is hardly set it stone but it just shows the unpredictability of drafting QBs as some teams might have taken Herbert over Tua because of health concerns not a single team would have taken Herbert over Burrow.
And most still wouldn't. If he hadn't been behind the porous line of the Bengals, he wouldn't have gotten hurt.
I'm hoping we do trade down. If you trust your scouting moving back 5 or 6 spots in the first in exchange for an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick is the right move. If you know what your'e doing those 2nd and 3rd rounders will be gold.
I will give you it's not an exact science. But, since you brought up "health concerns", let me ask you this; can recall when there was ever a case of one of the top prospects coming off a major (potentially career ending) injury in which his ability to play at a very high level and avoid re-injury was in as much question as Tua's?
From what I understand, Tua was/is no more likely than any other QB to suffer a career-ending injury. I can assure you that they did not draft him with potential concern looming that he'd never actually play again at a high level.
WARNING; To all those who constantly cheerlead the idea of trading back if someone offers better than ‘value’ chart. Or for the ‘more picks, the better’ crowd. If there is a hall of famer or perennial pro bowler on the board at 6.... you pick him. It’s not complicated.
Nah. Quinn was just another Mel Kyper BS hype job. He was nothing special in college either. I was happy when they didn’t announce him as the MIA pick, unfortunately we all know who the pick ended up being, but at least it wasn’t Quinn.
This time next week, the popcorn will be buttered, the feet will be kicked up and the bottle of anti-anxiety medicine will have been opened. If I can find a way to sleep for the next seven days, I'm all set!
Key, my point was the injury he sustained was so serious that it could've been career ending. Meanwhile, Herbert was 100% healthy. Anyway, I'm done beating a dead horse. It's Tua or bust moving forward.
In a perfect world if Pitts and Chase are gone, and we were able to trade back with Denver and snag Sewell (only willing to if we get that first back and then some), it’d be nice to see us trade up form 18 with our 2nd rounders to grab Waddle. I wouldn’t be upset with Sewell under any circumstances, but I still hope our WR floor is Waddle.
That's one example, for every Julio Jones there's a Charles Rogers or Justin Blackmon type example of top ten picks being busts. If your team sucks at scouting and talent evaluation, then you are ****ed whether you stay put or trade down. However if you trust your scouting and ability to find good players further down the board, then trading down is a good option. I would rather have 4 good to great players than one great one, and that's what trading down gives you the opportunity to do. The browns were just one of those teams who were terrible at scouting and drafting year after year after year. Even when they stayed put with their top ten picks they still struck out often.
