My heart tells me PITTS if he's available, If not I'm going to say we may try to trade down just a few spots and take Devonte Smith if he is still available for a couple of reasons. #1 The TUA connection - already have chemistry having played in Alabama together. Quicker Acclamation process. #2 Alabama players disciplined hard working individual #3. Faster than Chase from what I seen while not as productive he seems to be a better route runner IMHO.
I don't know. I'm not as high on Devonta, reminds me too much of Ted Ginn, definitely don't want him at six. Would rather we trade down for more picks.
No. How? Ted Ginn is soft. Smith is not soft. Being a little light doesnt disqualify him from being the best hands in the draft (potentially) but yes imo. Putting on healthy weight for pro athletes is also easy btw brother. *Btw I want Kyle Pitts if he's there, i'm just assuming we go WR if he gets taken* so we may as well discuss who that best WR is, but it wont matter in a day. We'll have our guy(s) for better or worse. Don't Screw It Up Grier
Trade down at 6 and pick who? Trade down how far and who is our partner and why would they want to trade with us? You have to run these scenerios if you want to discuss a potential serious trade forward or backward of picks.. e.g. I think at 18 we should call up Tennessee and trade back to 22, they may want to move up because they are targeting a player likely a particular CB who may not be there if they dont trade up, while we may want Najee Harris but want to trade back and get more picks cause he will still be there at 22. After that dont bet on it. But I digress, if I'm trading out of 6 I damn sure wanna know what the plan is after that, that was kind of a half-baked post no offense.
If Jones is getting traded surely Atlanta take Chase or Pitts. Then you would think Cincinnati will take the other logically over Sewell. So the odds are it's Sewell at 6
Smith reportedly was measured at 166 lbs when he had a medical evaluation with the league this month. That bothers me to an extreme end. I'm not going to tell anyone else how to feel, but to me that's clearly a glaring red flag. That's 20 lbs lighter than Marvin Harrison, who he's often compared to.
Well if the draft goes: Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Pitts and Chase. Miami is there at 6 with Sewell, Parsons, Waddle and Smith. Those are all players I wouldn't be mad about getting but don't really want at 6, outside of Sewell. Had we not spend 3 picks in last years draft at OL, I would be more willing to just pull the trigger on Sewell. I'd be willing to trade back to 8-10 for an extra pick(s) knowing at least 1 of those players will be there. Likely 2-3 because I'd assume the team trading up is taking Fields or whoever SF doesnt take between Jones/Lance. So if we could end up with Sewell, Parsons, Waddle or Smith at 8-10 and pick up an additional 2nd rounder or a couple of 3rds, I'm willing to roll the dice and get more at bats to hit on impact players on the draft.
If the top five of the draft were to fall like that, and we lose out on both Pitts and Chase, then I would be open to the huge offer from the Bears that was thrown around last week as an idea. #20, plus 2022 and 2023 first rounders and another 2nd rounder. That would be worth it to move down to me. However, I like Sewell a LOT more than I do anyone else in the draft at that point, so moving back a couple of spots for an extra 3rd rounder or whatnot wouldn't be worth it.
I also don't like that he wouldn't weigh in at the Senior Bowl which tells me he was even lighter then. This then brings up questions about why he wouldn't run at his pro day. Did he add too much weight and lose speed?
Or just whether his workout numbers are nothing special to begin with. Is he a 4.6 guy at 166 pounds?
I wouldn't move back for 1 3rd rounder. It would need to be 2 3rds or a 2nd. It also depends on how far back we're moving too. I like Sewell A LOT as well and I believe in building in the trenches. My thinking is if Sewell goes, you have Slater who is more versatile and some experts think might be just as good at T. I didn't see the Chicago rumor but that would be a good gamble because if they trade more draft for a QB and miss again, they're screwed. To me, Pitts and Chase are in a different echelon and that's who I was hoping would be there at 6. I'm still hoping that someone trades up to 4 and solves this problem for us.
I hadn't heard about that potential trade- personally, I'd take it and let the Laremy Tunsil love extend into future generations.
It was something in the media. I'm not sure if the person who put it out there had connections or not, but it seemed like a viable suggestion if Fields was still on the board.
If they can get that, you take it and don't think twice IMO. I assume the "another 2nd rounder" is for this year? Either way, I'm down with that. Plenty of really good if not great prospects to be had between #18 & #50.
To me, the question here is "Would you trade Pitts/Chase/Sewell" for three 1st rounders and a 2nd? It's the Tunsil/Stills deal all over again but this time around, the asking price is an unproven rookie. And it's only sweeter since it's the actual final Tunsil compensation pick that's opening that doorway. I wouldn't hesitate for a single second- take the deal. I'd love to have any of the names mentioned above but for that haul, we could grab almost any single player in the league. Plus we'd still pick 18 and 20 this year, which would be OT/Edge/RB. I'm all-in on this path!
Here's my only question re; Sewell...are they gonna move him over to RT? I mean, he's a LT, right? If so, wonder if they've already had a conversation with him about moving him? Really, really don't like this whole having a lefty QB situation. I wouldn't have drafted Tua just based on that fact alone...LOL!!! No offense to any southpaws in the group.
He would be a starting OT. I don't think it really matters which side of the line he and Jackson would be on. Its great either way.
I based my answer on his inexperience and opt-out. It should be easier to teach him to play the right side than flip Jackson. Jmho
Very true. He just turned 21 himself. He's a young prospect, while the other two are on the extreme end of things. Almost as young as Iggy was last year. Waddle and Smith are slightly older than the middle range. They'll both turn 23 about mid season this year. Right around two years older than the younger ones.
I think the pick is going to be Devonta Smith. He was the consensus #1 WR in college when the season ended and the clear favorite before peoples' imaginations started running wild. He produced reliably at Alabama for 4 straight years. He stayed on in a season where they won the National Championship (in a game he dominated). He's a hard worker and a team leader. He's a coaches favorite. Former R1 picks like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Christian Wilkins and Tua Tagovailoa were also under-sized guys. They were picked for their character, production and leadership. Smith fits that narrative. Also, Smith is assuredly going to be available at #6 which helps explain why the Dolphins willingly moved back when doing so would've put into question guys like Pitts, Chase and Sewell. Were the Dolphins targeting any of those guys I don't think they'd have willingly fallen back for a distant R1 pick we won't be talking about for 2 years. I also think the selection of a WR makes sense because despite Miami currently having 1000 WRs under contract, none of them are guaranteed to be here for more than 1-2 seasons. Parker doesn't fit and is a #2 at best. Fuller's never played a full season and is on a 1-yr deal. Jakeem Grant and Preston Williams don't mean much to people. Allen Hurns, Albert Wilson, Lyn Bowden and Robert Foster are wildcards. Mack Hollins and Isaiah Ford are pretty much irrelevant. I think the selection has always been Devonta Smith.
To be fair, I don't think people are quite in tune with what Grier & Flores actually want. While a lot of people felt good having predicted Tua at #5 last year, I don't recall a lot of people last year screaming about how the team needed to draft Austin Jackson, Noah Igbinoghene, Robert Hunt or Raekwon Davis immediately thereafter although followers of the team are happy to have all 4 of those players. I remember a lot of talk about a bunch of RBs none of which were selected by Grier & Flores.
If we'd draft Waddle you mean. For me it's Pitts/Chase/trade down draft Smith/Sewell, that would be my preference right now. Can't wait till we actually know what is really going to happen happen on draft day.
No. I like, but don't love Waddle. I think that he's going to be a limited player, but that he'll likely reach that potential and maintain it if he's healthy. I don't think he's worth a top ten pick, but he probably is worth a first rounder to be a weapon as the team's #3 target. I think that Smith could very well be a complete and total bust. His floor is much lower than Waddle's IMO.
Oh wow, I completely disagree. I think Smith is the best WR in this draft by a fairly high margin. I could see us taking Chase or Pitts for their size/measurables but I don't think they're better pure receivers. Smith is the total package besides being skinny. Also, it's such a huge advantage bringing in a WR that Tua already knows and trusts. That has to have some significant weight behind closed doors for the Dolphins. As Greg said, I also think Smith is the pick and has been all along. Hoping to see 4 QB's and Sewell off the board when we're up to bat- I wouldn't take Smith out of the top-3 receivers but I think Miami will.
I think your comparison to Ted Ginn is more fitting to Waddle then Smith. Both quick both good returners both hurt in college. The only knock on Smith is his frame but besides that he's the most complete ball catcher in this draft imo. Waddle would be the Ted Ginn story all over again may be a little worse.
I just don't see Ted Ginn with either. Ted Ginn's route tree looked very limited in college and he seemed like a utility player who could develop into a wide receiver. Both Waddle and Smith look like wide receivers first. Both have really good route running skills.
