Another Draft where we miss out on a proven Running Back. How do we address this need?

Weve been trying to make moves for a starter the last couple years, they’ve been washed up players in Gurley and Bell though which does concern me..

Hopefully a trade for someone is in the works before camp.

If there is, it's for a rotational player, like a James White type. Probably we are going into the season with what we have.

For now, I'm just going to pull for Malcom Brown to take control of the job and do as well as he can. Force the coaches to give him the ball. Fingers crossed.

Last year Achmed and Gaskin both showed flashes. There was a definite sense that the OL and/or run game play calling weren't helping matters.

Sure, talent would help, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one year older and upgraded OL, and the OCs, don't produce a better quality run game.

I'm at least curious to see it.

What I'm certain of is that I don't want to see Miami walk into cap trouble because of some free agent RB. So, if they can find some great value then great. If not, let's roll and see what we have.

For me this is third and final year of the foundational portion of the rebuild. I want to see things coming together even more, more strength, more consistency, more improvement across the board.

If the run game improves but needs one more year, and the rest of the areas have improved with the moves made, that's fine. You can't improve everything every draft.

    Fins up guys!
Go Gaskin, Achmed, Brown and Doaks!

I very, very much want the Fins to draft a good RB, see him have great success early in his career, reward him with a fair second contract, and have him challenge the team record books. I've been waiting 35 years, and im not going to give up regardless of what the current fads are.

Except at the end of the game when they kick the game winner. It might not show up be we all know it happens. Pretty often.

Point is you can't look at the number of FGs and determine how good the offense was or whether the team was more likely to win or not. So what you said is true while being irrelevant for determining the truth of that statement.

In fact, since the correlation was very slightly negative for wins, that means that the effect of FGs that were important for losing the game is just a tad larger than the effect of FGs that were important for winning the game.

While I 100% agree with you, I think we've had that back multiple times in Miller, Damien Williams, Ajayi, Frank Gore, etc. The problem is that we just weren't locked in on a single back for everything- the rotation allows us to have blocking specialists or pass specialists mixed in different formations. I'm not sure if we ever see the featured back in Miami unless we draft an Etienne-type player in the 1st round.

The other problem with keeping a back through their 2nd contract is a noticeable drop in production down the line versus the costs of that 2nd contract. I want exactly what you want, but I don't think it's possible in the current era of football. I mean, look at the names we cut loose just this past month- we let team captains walk to sign rookies. What happens in 2-3 years as all these 1st contact players want that big 2nd contract? There's no way we keep the majority of them.

While I see that salary caps are a "necessary evil" to keep the league halfway fair, it makes getting those 10-year veterans who stick with a single franchise pretty rare...especially at the skill positions.

I think that Lamar Miller in particular was the one that hurts. He was the victim of poor timing and poor coaching, as the end of his Dolphins career was marred by the year that Philbin was fired and then Gase took over and chose not to bring him back. But he was an underused guy who was still only 24 years old at that point, and could have been a lot better with a better line and a better system. Not a superstar, but he could have been a quality starter on a fair contract through the end of his 20s. His time in Houston was marred by a lot of the same issues.

Not a fan of Kerryon, so I’m glad Fins didn’t win the claim.

But interesting news... guess brass aren’t content at RB.

I thought that was one of the reasons we addressed the Offensive Line this draft.

Probably a good idea to see how our running game performs this year behind that line before proclaiming "the sky is falling"!

At least you acknowledge that you are offensive minded rather than one who recognizes that offenses and defenses compliment each other on the field.

For me, the entire reason I watch football in the first place is to see the offense gradually move down the field, gaining one first down after another, move into the Red Zone, and hopefully score. The rest is all holding my breath and hoping they don't mess up. Am I glad when the defense does something good? Of course, I want the team to win. But I'm an offense fan. And not a big play, high risk guy, but someone who wants to see clean, sustained drives.
