I picked winning of course, but I don't think 10-6 misses the playoffs this yr. Jus a hunch.

If you win 10 games and miss the playoffs that means your team was good enough to win 10 games. That helps with recruiting free agents and it also means that the players you have drafted in the last few years are starting to be quality players. It also breeds the winning culture.

Top 10 picks guarantee nothing, ask the Lions and the Bengals. Teams that are good enough to win 10 games means that you're REALLY close to being a player.

That still doesn't explain why you say people who selected high draft picks were not real fans.

Not necessarily. It does, however, mean that a lot of the media experts will start mentioning them as candidates to make serious postseason noise the next year, a la the Browns this year, and, hell, how about the Dolphins in '06?

I haven't placed my vote in the poll yet, but I would vote for the top 10 pick, and it doesn't make me any less of a fan. I'm sorry, but going 10-6 and still missing the playoffs to me isn't all that different from going 6-10 in the big picture. Sure, it would mean that all of us would have been a lot happier on many more Sundays throughout the course of the season, but honestly, how good do you really think it would be for the long term future of the team for them to go 10-6 this season? It would be great for helping create a winning environment, but it wouldn't change the fact that the team's roster would still be one of the most talent deprived in the league.

They need an infusion of quality players up and down the roster, and winning a handful more games is not going to change that. It will disguise it for a lot of you, but to me it is still glaring. Just because teams miss on top 10 picks every year does not change the fact that there is a higher probability of a team getting a bonafide future star or franchise fixture with those picks.

For a team who has completely failed to do a proper rebuild for over 25 years now, I'm sorry, but I will gladly take my medicine now in the short term in order for the team to be an annual contender at some point in the next few years. To think that going 10-6 with this current roster would really mean much is being pretty short sighted, in my opinion, and just speaks of nothing more than instant gratification. I understand the line of thinking, but I do not agree with it.

Wow so many hoping for the pick? God after such a miserable streak the last few years Id like to think we could mean something. Id like to not see sportscaster after sportscaster make terrible jokes about us being terrible. Id like us to be IN the playoff hunt. Id like us to be competitive, to win! Id like to not sit there week after week praying just to look respectable and maybe eek out a win. Id like to go in thinking we are the better team, that we SHOULD win.
A draft pick is nice and all, but its not where you pick em, its who you pick and what you do with the player. It just means more of what we have been going through, an extention of mediocrity.

I guess I will called a bad fan by some, but this team & this year, I will go for the Top 10 pick, because I just feel a 10-6 pick would put us somewhere in the 20-25 pick, and I'd rather have a shot at a top 10 stud, especially if we miss the playoffs.

On the side of a top ten pick, if you get a top ten pick in the first round you get a top ten pick in the 2nd, 3rd and every other round too. To me thats where the real difference is, the talent in the later rounds will be better due to the higher picks there.

But I would still rather be making additions to a winning team than building a team w/ high picks.

I can't believe this is still being debated. And after the season we had last year. Would any of you want to go through a season like last to get your precious top pick? Seriously, if any one of you would rather suffer through a season like that again to get a top whatever pick that might make us better in the future than to win games, then I will go on record and say yes I think you are less of a fan than somebody who just wants to see their favorite team win.

I watch the Dolphins to watch them win. Miami Dolphins winning football games brings me joy. I don't care to cheer for them to suck so that they might be better next year. I want them to win every game they play, no matter what affect that has on their draft status. I think some of you don't realize how long a year is. Think of all our fellow Dolphin fans around the world that might not live to see next season. Do you think they care about a top 10 pick? We should all be cheering for the Dolphins to win games. Nuff said.

Blah, blah, blah. Like it wasn't plenty painful watching the 2002 team look like world beaters at times, and then have that absolute disaster in the last game of the season at New England and miss the playoffs.

If the choice was go 10-6 and make the playoffs, I take that all day long. However, what does 10-6 and no playoffs really benefit? Maybe 4-5 more wins than the team is probably going to have this season anyway? It's short sighted to want a few more wins at the possible expense of the team not being better off for it a couple years down the road.

Blah, blah, blah it's short sighted to want your team to lose games so they can possibly be better. Losses hurt far worse than picking a little later in the draft. You should all be painfully aware of that after last season.

Id rather have the joy of winning for an entire season than the fleeting joy of a high draft pick that soon fades and often turns into resentment (Ted Ginn)

Yeah as of right now the above scenario looks better. But we have a new front office and I am still not closing the door on Ginn. :tongue2:

It would be easy to pick 2 different years and compare picks in the 1st round to make either case. I am just to lazy to do it... :pointlol:

At 10-6, you'd be within sight of the playoffs.

You might miss them in the end, but you'd have hope right until the last minute. Even though missing them would suck big time, the thrill of having that chance is awesome and you'd definitely want that over a top pick that will most likely command $$$ and not deliver.

If we had lost one or two extra games in Saban's first year we would now have Jay Cutler as our QB. How many of you still remember the "joy" of winning those games. If you could go back and change time would you still want those two victories or would you rather have Cutler?

I wanted Young that year and i thought at the time we should of done whatever it took to move up and get him.Looking back,,,, i'm kind of happy that didn't happen.

Anyways i don't think losing a few more would of helped with satin running the show , he wanted to win fast and i don't think he would of ever thought about taking Cutler.

Either way.......... i 'd want the joy of the wins.

I could be wrong but I believe Cutler was who Saban wanted until Denver moved up ahead of us and took him

I do. I still remember the opening day victory over Denver. I even remember the bar I watched it at. Nugent's in Yonkers. I'll probably never forget that day or that win. Still remember the TD pass to Marty Booker that blew the game open. I remember most of the other wins as well. It was a great season.

I haven't read all 62 posts in this tread, but I'm disappointed so many of us would rather have a high draft pick than win 10 games. Pathetic.

Mostly bitter aftertastes but I still remember bits and pieces. I'd still want Cutler no doubt because it'd be a lot better than all the losing seasons we had after Saban's first years.

Tough choice, I like getting a top ten pick and hoping he turns out to be an all-star. But, yet I like winning games, going to work or the gym with my head held high for Miami winning.10 wins is great, and we can still get a good pick, not too mention we can find some gems in the later rounds.

So my answer is 50/50 both

This year I would rather have the top 10 pick, then go 10-6. If we went 10-6, we'd be overachieving, which was a big part of what hurt Saban his first year.

Why would anyone want to tank the season for the sake of a high draft pick? That would be like hoping we went 0-16 so we could get the #1 pick again.
I would definitely like the Phins to go 10 - 6, because that would be an indication there was some significant progress made toward rebuilding the Dolphins.

10-6, how crazy is it to vote any other way? BUT, only if it is accomplished WITHOUT sacrificing any of our rebuilding plans. NO WAY if it means we bring in aging vets to get a good record and sacrifice the future.
