Just saw this report and haven't seen it discussed in the other threads. I was really hoping we'd have some dynamic two-tight end sets with Long and Gesicki this season, so hopefully, this isn't going to prove to be a long-term injury. Prayers up for the rook.
I hope he can make it back and play at least part of the season, as a rookie he needs that experience. It also makes getting Gesicki signed long-term look that much better. Imagine our TE group without Long or Gesicki. Might as well go 5 WR sets at that point.
If Long flashes this season, we'll have the most stacked receiving options in the league (outside of Kansas City). We can run crazy sets that would give defensive coordinators fits. Imagine how deep a secondary will have to be. What a difference a year makes. But that's a dream that might be deferred if Long's injury is serious.
Any word on what happened or how long he might be out? Pretty tough news since he's been highly impressive so far.
From Barry Jackson's Herald article: 12:22 p.m.: Rookie tight end Hunter Long sustained a leg injury (looked like a knee) and was removed in a cart. He seemed to injure himself on a run after catch on a completion from Jacoby Brissett. He fell hard to the turf and couldn’t put pressure on the leg....
I get them wanting to keep things close to the vest, but hopefully they'd share a season-ending injury or anything that's going to require a major surgery. Maybe they're still going through the process of 2nd opinions, etc. In any case, no news makes me very nervous.
