A few days ago, Pat MacAfee was discussing the AFC East on his show and he said that he couldn't understand how Miami had the 2nd best odds in the division. He went onto say that he thought the Bills would fight NE for the division at season's end and the Jets would probably win more games than the Fins. Then he made a Vegas wager on the Dolphins coming in 4th in the division.

His reasoning for this was the DeShaun Watson rumors; he said that the team has no faith in Tua and that means we're going to stink. Dolphins fans on Twitter really went after him hard and explained that Tua's our guy, we have an elite defense, etc. and the team is going to be solid this year. Evidentially, they argued for hours and Pat posted this the following day-

In that video, he says that he thought there were only maybe 10 or 15 hardcore Dolphins fans out there, so he couldn't understand all the anger. But he does say that they'll cover the Dolphins extensively this year...but he meant it sarcastically because he thinks we'll suck. So this is a rivalry we need to put a little effort into this season, LOL.

I like Pat, but he's obviously an idiot when it comes to football operations and predicting teams. He's not a reporter but at the same time, he's the perfect example of mainstream media hopping on bandwagons without having any idea of what they're talking about. So let's give him hell this year!

I absolutely agree, he's having fun and gaining listeners/haters in the process.

Sadly, that's what things have become. I've largely stopped listening and watching shows because of it. Its the extreme opposite of what I want, which is calm, well reasoned discussion.

    Yeah, I agree as well.

Any sort of entertainment aimed at the national level is just a losing proposition. Why would anyone want the opinion of someone who's not covering (or at least knowledgeable of) the Dolphins?

It was interesting watching Pat's show take-off because he's got a big personality and the vibe was similar to Dan Patrick / Rich Eisen where a crew of guys sit around giving what seem like more/less honest reactions to headlines. It was less produced than say, ESPN or NFL Network's morning coverage. Pat was funnier and said dirty words which gave it an air of realism which the other shows didn't have, too, so it definitely felt more like some random podcast.

But you just can't cover everything and that's the mistake of ESPN, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, Pat McAfee, etc. Additionally, Pat's now tried the wrestling thing and he's brought more of that "persona" to the show which makes it all the more absurd. It can be funny but it can also be stupid.

Everyone's looking for viewers. I get that, but so much of this is just engineered to be a viewable version of the nonsense that you used to get through (nationally-syndicated) sports radio which has maintained itself as completely moronic.

Am I insane for sort of getting the prediction we come fourth? I don't agree with it but I can understand how somebody casually looking at things from the outside ends up at that opinion. Tua was not great last season, I understand that there were a myriad of reasons for that last year but most people don't care about why something happened, just the end result and so what they saw was Tua struggle in a bunch of games and have to be rescued by Fitz. Fitz isn't here to do that this season, and whatever Brisset is, he's not the rollercoaster that Fitz is which means whilst you don't the lows of Fitztragic, you won't get the moments of magic like against the Raiders last season on national television (A game that will probably fit the narrative for a lot of casual fans).

I know more happened than that this offseason, but that's probably about as much thought as most people have given this team. Tua sucks, the team wants Watson and the defence will be worse because Van Noy is gone (Literally feels like that happened about 3 seasons ago at this point). The Bills are now seen as a Super Bowl favourite, The Pats are the Pats so get national love and the Jets have just drafted a rookie QB which always gets some national buzz. All the while, none of our moves are really nationally that exciting, mainly because we haven't needed to make those sorts of moves for once. Just keep the course, and sure enough we'll be a "surprise" team when we're in the fight for the playoff spots come the end of the season.

I used to care a lot about predictions, however, since the predictions have nothing to do with the result, I would rather people like him predict bad things so when Miami does well I can laugh at him.

The beauty of the NFL it is all about winning games. Public perceptions don't matter.

The hot takes in sports coverage are the worst. Have you tried listening to the Around the NFL podcast? It's pretty grounded. Dan Hanzus is a Jets homer and hates the Dolphins but I enjoy Greg and Marc.

I've never listened to any podcast in my life, truly. I have no interest in it.

I used to watch morning shows on ESPN and NFL Network, and would watch talk shows like Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen and others when I had DirecTV and they would show them on their channel. I would also watch Sportcenter, NFL Total access, Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption almost every day. Now, I rarely watch any of it. Its all just people yelling at one another and a race to the bottom.

When I had Sirius radio, I would listen to NFL Channel 88, but it also got worse and worse over the years.

The afc east is in flux, lots of new shiny parts. So I could see someone picking us 4th. Belicheat has his full defense back and a better QB. Jests have a HC and new QB along with lots of offensive talent. The Bills are the champs and are not any weaker on paper. Tua is still learning a new system with offensive weapons he has not had a lot of practice with along with a suspect OL. So I can see someone picking us last.

Check out a few of MacAfee's clips on YouTube- they're just a bunch of idiots telling sports stories and reacting to breaking news. For me, it's a comedy channel watching their hot-takes on everything. It's nothing like Rich Eisen; it's just a bunch of clowns laughing and having fun while discussing sports.

Then I absolutely will never, ever have any interest in watching a second of it. Thank you for clarifying.

I want calm, thoughtful, adult, professional, fair and well reasoned football discussion.

Yeah, his show is the exact opposite of what you just said. Think of the movie "Jackass" if they did all sports skits...that's pretty much what his show is.

He does have Aaron Rodgers and some other players on there frequently to talk about football, and there are some serious topics woven into the conversations, but most of the time it ends up with wild hot-takes and gossip.

Personally, I love that stuff...but I'm not watching for journalism purposes. It's just a fun break for a few minutes in my day.

One of the reasons why I like it is that he doesn't pretend to be serious and that his opinion should matter more than others (Other than about punting and what goes on in the NFL since he was an NFL punter)

    None? Wow.

Podcasts are pretty much a third of all entertainment I consume now.

Honestly a podcast would probably be the closet you are looking for in the type of entertainment, since there are probably other people like you who want just straight football news.

That is the thing I dislike most about Omar is he keeps on telling me how smart he is.

I started listening to Reason's YouTube podcast and I cringe every time he tells me he is right about something or how smart he is.

I don't care how smart anyone is. All their opinions suck. Plus they never talk about all the times they are wrong.

I appreciate Pat because he is there to just have fun and since he played in the NFL he has good insight. Plus AJ Hawk is a cool dude as well.

If you listen to sports radio and don't listen to podcasts, you're missing a heckuva opportunity to get reasonably intelligent discussion about your favorite teams/sports. Yeah, there's a ton of opinion mixed in but there are also so many different pods that I can find hosts with opinions that don't rub me the wrong way. Podcasts beat the bare butts of sports radio with a thorny switch IMO.

There is no way this team is going to be 4th in the AFCE. Things would have to take a disastrous turn for us to finish behind the Jets. I still think 2nd in the division and playoffs.

    Yes. I'm Bullish.

The Northeast media is pushing the Patriots, and even the Jets, hard this week. Its both transparent and sad.
