Via Barry Jackson - Miami Dolphins claim a defensive back from Jets | Miami Herald

"The Miami Dolphins claimed former New York Jets cornerback/safety Elijah Campbell off waivers on Wednesday and waived safety Jamal Perry, according to league sources.

The acquisition of Campbell - and the release of Perry - leave the Dolphins with 12 defensive backs.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins lost receiver Malcolm Perry, who was claimed off waivers by New England, Miami’s Week 1 opponent. The Dolphins had hoped to sneak Perry through waivers and sign him to the practice squad.

Perry was the only released Dolphin who was claimed off waivers.

Veteran defensive end Jabaal Sheard is joining the Dolphins’ practice squad. He has 53 sacks in 10 NFL seasons. Sheard, 31, played nine games for the Giants and one for Jacksonville last season, including three starts. He had 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Dolphins who joined other teams’ practice squads: tight end Chris Myarick with the Giants and defensive tackle Benito Jones with Kansas City."

Practise Squad Member confirmed or expected so far:
    WR Kirk Merritt
    Quarterback Reid Sinnett
    Running back Gerrid Doaks
    Running back Patrick Laird
    Linebacker Calvin Munson
    Offensive lineman Adam Pankey
    Cornerback Javaris Davis
    Linebacker Shaquem Griffin
    Running back Jordan Scarlett

Guard Durval Queiroz Neto is remaining with the Dolphins as a 17th player on the 16-man practice squad (per league international exemption rules)

Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports that the Giants are expected to sign former Ravens and Dolphins center Matt Skura to their practice squad. Skura was released by the Dolphins on Tuesday after signing with them as a free agent this offseason.

Skura started 51 games for the Ravens over the past four seasons and has also seen time as guard. Ben Bredeson, one of the players the Giants traded for, was a teammate of Skura’s in Baltimore.

The Giants also dealt for former Bengals first-round pick Billy Price and all three players are interior offensive linemen. One may have to step in for left guard Shane Lemieux, who reportedly has a partially torn patellar tendon that he is trying to play through after missing time this summer.

Grier must be salivating at the thought of all the TEs and DBs he'll be able to acquire!

It's funny how we haven't even played a game yet and Fuller looks like a massive mistake. Maybe he's a baller, but it's hard to see where he fits this offense at the moment. I honestly don't even know what the guy looks like at this point.

No snark intended, but if we don't know what he looks like, what do you base your "massive mistake" assessment on? I haven't read much that was good or bad about him.

Yeah, really...it's just bizarre. Grant was 3rd string last year at best, and now he's beating out Fuller, Williams, Hollins, Wilson, etc? We must have the deepest WR room in the history of the league.

The strangest part to me is I don't even know if I'm being sarcastic or not.

Maybe I was off-base there. I simply meant that five months ago, he seemed like a massive addition and today, we don't even know if we'll see him play this weekend. You don't pay a guy to be your 2nd stringer- that's why we let Van Noy walk.

    Grant has seniority.

I don't mean this as an insult, but "are you drunk?" Or just really excited about football starting?

I see. You do know that he's suspended for game #1, right? He couldn't practice with the team since before the last exhibition game. Personally, I think he'll be WR3 or WR4 behind Parker, Wilson, and probably Waddle. I think his whole role will be to take the top off the defense and I'll be happy if he gets 45 receptions as long as it means his mates get more because of him.

We won't see him play. He is suspended.

And his cap hit is less than Parker.

I completely forgot about the suspension, so maybe he will be a starter in week 2. That's a tall task though since he hasn't really practiced with Tua at all yet.

For one, we know there will be injuries.

Remember last season against the Patriots Hollins, a Bowden who joined the team late, and the often cut Ford were the starting three wide receivers.

This season they can have some injuries.

He is a very good wide receiver and a potential star in this league. I think now is too early to worry about things. They had a lot of the offseason to work on chemistry and then he will have more practice and game time.

TBH he's my bust candidate for the year. I hope I am wrong, but I was very apprehensive when we signed him and not at all impressed. Dude has a litany of injuries and his best season he gets popped for a drug suspension? Consider me skeptical. I just hope Waddle lights it up and Parker can stay healthy. We have enough firepower without Fuller to still be really good if people can stay on the field and Tua can get them playing to potential.
