Well, the game went EXACTLY as I expected for about the first seven minutes- Pats ran the ball, we eventually stopped them, and then we marched down the field with ease for a quick score. That was the "blowout" recipe I expected today, but the Pats do deserve some credit...their defense did step up and their rookie QB had a solid day. I'm pretty amazed that we had zero INT's on the day, yet Howard saved the game regardless with a beautiful strip/recovery when it really mattered.

Let's talk about the good stuff 1st. Tua looked better than 2020 and the offense found rhythm at times by getting the ball out quickly. Gaskin also had a pretty good day and I was happy to see RB by committee returned as well. I'm not sure what was going on with the WildCat and Brissett subbing in but okay, they were cute little gimmicks to creatively run when holes weren't exactly opening up.

For the bad, the offense line was a mess and Tua had very little time to scan the field. His one pick was 100% on him...can't throw that pass...but he was under almost instant pressure and working hard to extend a blown play. Dumb mistake, but the problem was that the offensive line struggled to seal the edge all day long. However, with the quick dink and dunk passing game, both Parker and Waddle made a few highlight plays- I'm very excited to see Waddle develop.

For special teams, neither team was truly special so we don't have to go there. What was up with NE's returner catching the ball, standing perfectly still for a second, and then start running? I assumed they were fair catches and then he was off running. HEH, that's the Patriot's Way though.

I haven't looked at statistics yet, but I'm pretty certain that NE beat us in just about every phase of the game except the one that matters most. It was absolutely an ugly win but at the same time, we haven't really had any wins in Gillette in the past decade so it's nothing to pout about. I really did expect a blowout and a lot more consistency from our offense, but I'll absolutely take it.

By the way, Miami leads the division 1-0 overall ant 1-0 in the AFC East. Everyone else lost today! That might seem like a technicality....big deal that we're up by one....but it will actually a huge deal three months from now as we're looking at the standings. This really was a "must win" game so I'm not going to be too harsh in the critique.

    Great game, Fin fans!

On a personal note, I lost my dad a few months back and this was the 1st big division game I've watched without him in decades. Back in the 80's when I was a kid, it was my dad around my age today with the neighbors hanging out and screaming at the television, so this was a really tough one for me with lots of old memories popping up. Great win regardless!

I can't put that interception 100% on Tua because the ball hit Wilson in the hands.

    Good stuff:
    -Parker made some big plays
-Waddle showed us why Miami moved back up to get him
-all 4 of our top 4 picks contributed
-X showing us why we paid him more money
-we beat (FU)NE on the road
-Sanders continues to be very reliable and kicked a clutch 45+

Going into NE, we looked like the better team the entire game.

This was a tough, tough victory. I am thrilled.

KeyFin, we beat them in Gillette in 2019 forcing them to play a wildcard game.
Unless you meant beating them with any regularity up there.

I didnt see that we looked horrible on the line and our short defense was bad / run stopping suspect. Again in the road against division rival is ill take the win but we need to be better! Good start but we got “lucky” imho

One other thought, Jackson and Fuller will be back next week. Excited to see what happens to our offense and specifically our running game when the defense has to contend with Waddle and Fuller on the field together.

I'm sick of 3 downs and 5 or 6 plays where Tua is flushed out of the pocket.

How about they scheme plays where he can get rid of the ball without needing 5 seconds to scan the field?

Lucky win yesterday but a win is a win. I think we finally found our HC, when somebody goes down it's not like it used to be and everything still works, that's a really nice change. The Oline and Tua had me worried yesterday, it's maybe unfair after such a small sample size but I think we got the worst of the Alabama QB's and I'm unsure about our GM, a lot comes down to this season and how our young players develop.

If week 1 is any indication, Geisiki is being completely phased out of this offense.

0 catches is one thing, but He only played 39% of offensive snaps. And that was without Shaheen and Will Fuller V!

Keep in mind Geisiki is basically a slot receiver (playing over 75% of his snaps in slot last year) so he is competing for snaps with WR’s as much as he is with the tight end room.

He was apparently healthy, so he appears to be game planned out of this offense. Smythe played nearly double the snaps of Geisiki.

And It’s a great thing, because now we have so many dynamic offensive threats to move around the formations. The more Waddle the better!

It's a shame Gisceki didn't catch that errant pass from Tua after it was deflected to him. Great opportunity in an offense where he didn't have any opportunities on the day.

I think the offense is going to change week to week based on who they go against.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I lost my own father 2 years ago. While we generally didn't watch games together any more other than the super bowl (the last two were difficult) he would always give me a call after a game like yesterdays. I still half expected the phone to ring yesterday.

As for the interception, I don't think it was a dumb decision. I think Tua was trying to throw the ball away but couldn't step into the throw because of the defender.

As for Gesicki, BB is famous for taking away a teams strength and I'm sure Gesicki got a lot of his attention. I also think Flores wanted to use the other TEs more to help out the OL with blocking.

I kinda had these pegged as known commodities. I definitely am not expecting Gaskin to be pro bowler.

I think our line is okay in terms of pass protection but needs to get better at opening holes for the run.

Stopping the run has been our kryptonite for years. I have long said that if I coached against the Dolphins, I would run until they could stop me.

As for all of the aforementioned items, nothing was terrible. I remember when Fitz first started, our o-line did not look safe at all. It was good enough where Tua was able to navigate the pocket.

I think the important part was that Tua looked sooooo much better. Aside from one throw, which I really do believe that he was trying to get out of bounds, he looked so much more comfortable with the system. Throughout the entire game, I kept thinking we should pass more and especially on first down.

Another thing is that I kinda entered this game thinking that it would be very defensive. I expected the Dolphins to win 21-13, so I think my prediction was in line with the actual results.

I haven't been able to chime in until now.
I just wanted to say that I loved the game. Totally psyched we won and we're first in the division.

I think it has been totally crazy that we won and all I have heard on just about every sports media outlet all week is how great Mac Jones played and what a great QB he will be. He played ok, but it has been way overblown and Tua and our team doesn't get nearly the amount of respect or whatever. It has been everyday, all week.

Some may know that I haven't been the biggest Tua guy as I have been critical of him. I just happened to be a huge Herbert fan from very early on and was so pissed when we passed on him for Tua. With that said, I am always a die hard Phin fan first and foremost. When we passed on Herbert for Tua, I was extremely pissed and have since been critical of Tua, but when the ball is snapped, I root for our QB, whomever that may be, as hard as I've rooted for anyone. Hell, I was cheering and screaming when Cleo Lemon won that one game and prevented us from losing every game that year. That's just how I roll. So, since Tua's first snap, despite my criticisms of him, I root for him as strong as any player.

So, I think Tua played well. It wasn't perfect by any means, but he did play well and well enough for us to win the game.
This thing for Mac is kind of annoying. I mean, he and his team lost and he dinked and dunked his way through most of the game. Also and most importantly, he and the team were terrible in the red zone. He couldn't get them in the end zone and had to settle for field goals. That is the difference.

Regarding Tua, I do think he was trying to throw it out of bounds on that pick. It was just too awkward of position and motion and maybe if he was right handed it would have gone out. :sidelol: I have always loved that he is a fellow south paw. He made some really good throw and reads. He got us in the end zone.

So, Jones can stick it and lets go beat these guys into Barfalo meat. :punk:
