So I’m watching this ESPN program about Belichek and Parcells (2 Bills) and Jimmy Johnson asked him to be the D coordinator. But he had so much history with Parcells he went to the Pats.

Wonder what would have been. Both from the Miami side and the Patriots side.

Personally, I don’t believe there would have much difference, due to ownership.

While both Kraft and Huizenga were both in business outside of football prior to their ownerships of their respective teams, Kraft was always a football fan at heart, having had season tickets to the Patriots game since 1971. Huizenga didn’t come into any interest in the Dolphins until the Robbie family needed financial assistance to keep the team afloat.

Bottom line, in my opinion…one was a fan of their team thus a football person, the other saw their’s as a financial opportunity.

Huizenga was a businessman first and foremost. I was a teen at the time, but it seemed like he owned several south Florida businesses (Waste Management, Blockbuster, Auto Nation, etc.) on top of the Dolphins, Panthers (hockey) and the Marlins...he brought both baseball and hockey to the area. I remember he was trying to acquire the Heat as well since that was in and out of the news for years.

What some may not realize is that being an NFL owner is great for business since you can fly in clients and let them watch the game from the owner's sky box. It's the ultimate in business clout and who wouldn't want to go see a game with the best seats in the house? Tons of business is conducted during those games from those types of owners.

Side note- he was also the one that changed the stadium's name from "Joe Robbie stadium", which is what many locals still call it. Although I understand why he did it, I've always disliked the guy because of it. There's a long backstory about how hard it was to get that stadium built and Robbie had recently passed away once the family sold the team, so it felt like an insult to his legacy. It never sat right with me and I call it Joe Robbie Stadium to this day.

And that is why the Detroit Lions seldom are any good, wrong people own the team.
