Great so Tua isn't playing. This is going to be another terrible game. Tua stinks, but Brissett stinks more. Idk how anyone could be positive or confident in anything considering the game last week.

    I know the feeling...

We do have some good players on this team. We saw them over achieve. The coaching staff/GM have gotten some things terribly wrong. Ditching the veteran talent was short-sighted. We've talked on here about the draft choices. I don't know how they can fix this season's offensive team but I blindly hope that they can do at least something.

My hope level for this season is minimal. I don't want to see another tanking season, I don't care how high a pick we might get. I don't expected great success though. At this point, I want Flores to figure out what needs to change, and to start changing it. To see they have the OL wrong. Other things wrong. I need Flores to grow massively this year, because I really don't want to see more house clearing.

If that's what has to happen then so be it, but we saw some promise. I hope that this team can grow through this.

That's my hope, for whatever that's worth.

Well you don't have to worry about them tanking since they don't get their own pick

We have to hope they are to improve at the rate they improved the last two seasons after poor starts.

True. Poor choice of words. I didn't mean actually tanking so much as finishing with a poor record and our only consolation being a higher pick.

Really hating that trade up to 6 more than I did when they made it. SF looks legit and we are on the verge of a bad season.

How are we on salary cap for next year? We have to big players in free agency to have any real hope IMHO his year and next are deciding years for GM and Headcoach… We may be moving on if Ross likes someone in college

If Carr is not playing we have a chance but the defense has to play much better.

Are you guys ready for Mitchell Trubisky to be our quarterback next season? I'm already looking at available free agents next year and he's pretty much the best QB available. I mean...Since we don't own our pick and all.
In order for me to change my state of mind regarding this team, we will need to win Sunday against the Raiders. Or....At the very least, play them one hell of a tough game start to finish. I have a feeling they are going to choke slam us though. Brissett did nothing for my confidence the other day. In fact, Brissett is starting to feel like a bad dream already. How long until Reid Sinnett starts to become a household name around here? He honestly plays with more guts than either Brissett or Tua. Damn, I hate to be this negative this early in the year, but this just does not feel right. We got our doors blown off at home against a team that we should have been pissed off at and motivated to play. There's no telling how this Raider game will go, because they are red hot out the gate and we are barely breathing after that beatdown last Sunday. I think this team goes as far as Brissett can take us. He's a game manager at best and I've seen plenty of him to know how good and bad he is.

I feel ya man. It’s sucks that it felt like we were finally turning the corner and we got curb stomped by a heated division rival.

I felt like we needed to give Flores 4 years. This team had so many holes when he took over and we’ve made a major youth movement. I think an addition or two at OL, plus having this years pan out plus finding a franchise QB and we’re not far away. You could argue it’s tough to find a franchise QB. I think at some point we need to start taking some QB’s in mid to late rounds until they finally pull the plug on Tua.

They need to keep Flores, but they need a new GM and he needs to force Flores to hire a competent offensive coordinator. Singular.

Completely agree. I love Flo. When he went after the Bengals sideline last year, plus what he’s done with this team, I was completely sold on him and willing to give him 4 years.

Fire grief Grier, hire Chris Simms. Our drafting and personnel problems will be over.

Grier should be on the hot seat imo, I do like Sims but I'm not sure he could be a GM...

Why not? The most important part of being a GM is drafting, talent evaluation, and having good rapport and connections around the league to make deals. Simms has all of those. His draft player rankings turn out to be pretty much spot on every year. He's a former player and has been involved with the NFL for decades. I don't see how you can be more qualified for a GM job than that.

Not a bad idea. I like Simms and he has been good on his evals.

I’m curious what his evaluation of Tua and Herbert were. I’m guessing if I google it, I can probably find it. I had Tua as a 2nd round grade even though I knew deep down we were(Grier) too stupid to pass on him at #5.

    Spot on:
    No. 4: Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama

Simms: “I do like his talent, there’s no doubt…Am I taking a little off the table because of the injury history? Yes. Am I taking a little off just because he’s injured right now? Yes…I’m not so sure he knows how to get out of harm’s way…He had a ton of talent around him (at Alabama). This is where we have to be careful when we evaluate quarterbacks…He’s a gifted athlete, he’s got great feet, he can hop around the pocket, he’s a good runner…I don’t think he’s necessarily going to be a great runner in the NFL…He’s a natural at the quarterback position, he really does understand it…He is very scary to me, I’m not necessarily sold that the type of style he plays will translate to the NFL…I’m certainly docking him a little bit because of size, injury history and further injury concern…Being in the Top 10, it would scare me with Tua.”

Simms has had good calls on QBs but not so sure about other positions. He would like to be a GM but it takes someone good in more than one area. You'd have to look at has picks at all positions. Videos exist. I posted a few here or in the draft forum during the pre draft period.

What makes Piss Simms qualified to make the personnel decisions of an NFL franchise? Being an assistant coach on the Patriots for one year...10 years ago? He's basically a shock jock NFL analyst.

He is generally good all across the board, but I have noticed his evals are specially good with QBs, receivers and DBs. Which makes sense being that he is a former NFL QB.

He has publicly shown he knows how to evaluate talent. That's the most important part of being a GM. He is also a former NFL player and has been involved with football all his life. That's more credentials than you need in my opinion. Being a coach in the league is actually pretty irrelevant. Coaching is one thing, evaluating talent is another. You can be a great coach and absolutely suck at making personnel and talent evaluation decisions.
