    20 years?
    27 years?

Guys, try 37 years! That’s how long it’s been since the Dolphins were in the Super Bowl. I was a 19 year old kid ready to watch the Dolphins tear up the 49ers. That Super Bowl have me the epiphany I’ve been trying to get across to everyone for years and years…

It doesn’t matter how good your quarterback is…
It doesn’t matter how great your receivers are…

If you don’t have a running game and you don’t have a defense, you’re not going to win! For years the weight of the Dolphins rested on Marino’s shoulders and for years the Dolphins came up short. No running game…no defense. At least to Johnson’s credit, he turned the Dolphins into a defensively strong team and tried to get the running game established with Jabar.

Honestly, I've been mostly ignoring the Dolphins media the last couple of weeks, and I'm enjoying it. And that's coming from the guy who posts torrential Tweets.

I'm actually thinking of just dumping Dolphins Twitter.

This season so far is starting to show me how meaningless all the Dolphins media is - beat writers, bloggers, pod-casters, the whole lot. There was so much hype, so much talk, so much so-called 'analysis' and it was all wrong. All of it. It basically boils down to guys who are passionate about the Dolphins talking and talking but not really knowing anything.

Since the analysis and evaluation has been so far off the mark, I'm rapidly losing interest. It's just talk for talk's sake. If you enjoy random Dolphins talk then fine.

This Herbert vs Tua article. So what? It changes nothing. Those who liked Herbert can pat themselves on the back. Those who liked/like Tua are still hoping to see something when he comes back. Those who are just hoping for a good QB for the Dolphins maybe feel despondent. There's absolutely nothing there, though, than one could learn from just watching the games.

We've got an almost 24/7 NFL news cycle that's got us all hungry for input, but in reality, there's nowhere near enough news to fill it.

Lots of people talking, nothing much to say, and worse, it can often leave you feeling even more dissatisfied.

I am interested in legitimate news updates and announcements, but the rest is looking more and more shallow and pointless by the day.

I'm wondering if the conversation here and the information I can pick up on game day or the day before won't be enough.

Each to their own, but if someone out there is fed up with it, consider switching off the media. Enjoy a football game on Sunday. Ignore the 24/7 speculation.

So many words, so little to say.

seriously though, just keep the record close to the .500 level until Tua comes back and then we'll see. If we drop more than one game below 500, thats when it's time to worry. Lucky enough we have the Colts this weekend and we SHOULD, gasp, win.

I'm surprised it took you this long to realize that.

Taking this statement out of context makes it even more meaningful. I think you're better off switching off the media in general, excepting info about some major world events. The world isn't that bad when you don't listen to most of that biased stuff.

Herbert is doing well and he's on a poor team. That team then went out and built an OL.
Tua isn't doing well, he's been injured.

It looks like Miami picked the wrong QB. Again.

    That's about the whole article.

I have been concerned about the team's situation since Tua was drafted. I thought it was an error then, and nothing so far has changed my mind. Putting a smallish QB behind the type of line we had then (and still have not significantly improved) is a forecast for disaster. There has seemed to me to be a relatively large disparity between the people who try to work with the team as it currently exists and those who are constructing the team. It has been so for a number of years. Just Bloody Decide what type of team the Dolphins are supposed to be - and then be consistent about building it. Unfortunately, it appears that there is no one capable of putting some effective emphasis on that in ANY portion of the organization!

I was okay with us drafting Tua, though I was worried about his hip. What I was NOT okay with was who we brought in at O-line. The O-line personnel decisions have been just horrible and not just in hindsight--LOTS of people said so at the time, including me. There were better players available.

Yep. Us old timers (man I never thought I'd be old enough to be including myself with the old guys but here we are) got to suffer thru this organization riding Dan's coat tails and never giving him the running back and defense the he needed. WE SHOULD BEEN A SUPERBOWL DYNASTY with 3, 4, or 5 trophies...Oh well, sooner or later its going to click, the stars will align, and we'll get that damn trophy again!

Everyone is always focused on who they wanted but who cares? I wanted Tua but I don't know anything and neither do the fans who wanted Herbert.

The front office is the ones who are supposed to know something and they got the QB pick wrong and maybe the whole rebuild very wrong.

Well, what we do know is that Herbert is playing at a high level and tua is not. Herbert threw for 4300 yards last year and 31 TD's. I think that the people who wanted him over Tua, might have known something

But none of them will ever been honest about the players they have wanted over the years that were busts.

I don't expect anyone here to admit they aren't experts at evaluating players but it is true. The real problem is it appears Grier isn't either.

We WERE a Super Bowl dynasty in the 70’s and our reign would have continued had it not been for the WFL. We lost Czonka, Warfield and Kiick to the WFL thus obliterating our offensive power.

I swear I have stated many times I would give up on these dolphins and root for another team because the NFL is no longer a team it’s just a collection of free agents changing year to year with no identity anymore IMHO.

The reason I don’t is because I know 100% the year I do that they win it all and I wasted the last 30 years!! So I’m struggling with you all!!

It was that same logic that landed Drew Brees in New Orleans and Daunte Culpepper in Miami. The organization as a whole was
more concerned with Brees’ shoulder injury/surgery than Culpepper’s knee.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but gazing into a crystal ball to speculate on someone’s future is always a craps shoot.

If Miami takes Herbert then Tua goes #6. Why though? He has no talent and only Miami was dumb enough to think so.

We should be able to criticize the pick and Grier without having to be so disingenuous.

The pros aren't much better than the fans when it comes to predicting how good a college QB will be in the NFL. It's really a crapshoot. If a GM does well it's mostly luck, at least that's what the data suggest.

Having said that there's no excuse for a GM that gets such an important pick wrong.

Regarding Tua, we still have to give him the rest of the year to see if he can improve. Yes, so far he's been a disappointment, but he's playing at a level that's still fully within what you might expect for someone in year 2. It's a rare case for a QB to play so bad that it's clear you should give up on that QB after one year. Maybe for an epic bust like Josh Rosen that was obvious — Rosen not once had a game where he was statistically above average, which is unbelievably bad (only starting QB since 1978 to do that!) — but it's not yet obvious for Tua. People need to at least give Tua till the end of the year before being so certain he's a bust.

While we suck at least we are not the Jets!

Seems the entire AFC East might have some questionable QB’s outside of Allen..

As for picking talent sometimes I think these GM’s get fancy and think they can see stuff others can’t and that will translate into the Pro’s.

Just pick the best rated player at a position of need and than fill in with free agents as you know they are not nearly as risky as some of these guys.

Also we need to draft a QB again in case, but oppps I forgot we dont have that option this year thanks Grier!

Also on a side note do we have a real plan on what the Flores identity is? Are we a Defensive team if so why are we not focusing heavy on that aspect? Are we a Offensive Team? We have a lot of on paper firepower but we are not using it.

We clearly are not balanced I don’t know what we are trying to build and it seems each year with a new OC (likely a new one again next year) we have zero consistency and were going into the last year of Flores contract soon so how to you evaluate a moving target!?

Agreed- big difference between "definite bust" and "he needs time to develop".

The thing with Tua that I think most people flat-out ignore is that he had no training camp last year, no preseason and he didn't know the playbook. Herbert and every other rookie quarterback were way ahead of him by game 1 (Burrow, Hurts, etc). But that was by design since he was coming off major injury. This is not an apples to apples conversation comparing Tua, Burrow and Herbert.

With that said, Tua should have been much improved this season....and now we're not getting to see it due to injury. So we have just over four quarters of football against NE and the Bills to update our evaluations over last year, and I'm sorry- that's impossible. The bust talk at this point is ridiculous.

Maybe Tua does bust, but there's a chance he ends up being better than Herbert as well. It's still too early to tell because of his pro career so far.

He's never going to be better than Herbert. Herbert did not exactly go into a rosy situation with the chargers last year either, they had a bad team and a bad offensive line, but he overcame it all to become rookie of the year.

Exceptional talents will overcome adversity and bad situations, Tua is not that kind of exceptional talent. He needs everything to be perfectly in place in order for him to succeed, like he had in Alabama.

Personally, I don't agree. I mean, his wins last season came with 4th string receivers. So far this year, he's had zero protection. Those aren't ideal situations yet as the starter, he's 1-0 this year (unless you're going to count 2 series against the Bills as "his fault" for the game).

I'm not trying to sugar coat anything here- he has a ways to go. But neither of us know how far that is based on 4 quarters and about 10 total plays in game two for 2021. We just need to see more to know.

His wins last year came because we had a great defense, not because of Tua's exceptional play. Tua is the type of player who is only as good as the overall team he is on. He does not have the ability to put a team on his shoulders and succeed despite adversity. He is not that type of player, Herbert is. Herbert is similar to Marino in that regard. Tua does not have that type of talent.

No matter how you look at it we f'd up badly picking Tua over Herbert.

If the conversation is should we have drafted Herbert or Tua, then we 100% agree. I ranted heavily on why we shouldn't draft Tua and we're experiencing all those things today. He came from an ultra-polished Alabama program where everyone was a superstar. My opinion pre-draft was to trade up for Burrow or not to go QB at all in R1.

If I had to choose between those two quarterbacks only, I would have taken Herbert. However, that's a senseless argument...we drafted Tua. He's our quarterback no matter what.

The question we need to answer is whether or not Tua can be an above average QB in the NFL. It's the only question that actually matters. Comparing Tua to Herbert is senseless because that door has closed. Was it a mistake over Herbert? So far, yes....but we knew Tua had to rehab and he'd be a season behind. That conversation doesn't matter though because we can't change history- we have Tua.

Now, if you want to use this debate to judge over the years...then sure, that makes sense. Where are they at in year 3, year 7, etc. But head to head, Tua is 1-0 and played a pretty good game in that win. And as a Dolphins fan, don't we want to see Tua go 3-0, 5-0, etc over the years....while also leading our team to the playoffs and beyond?

Again, maybe it doesn't happen. Maybe Tua busts. But hyping up Herbert can't change who we picked. We are left with exactly one option here if we're going to stay Dolphins fans- rooting for Tua. So he's my quarterback, even though he's not the guy I would have picked.

...and we most likely would have been in the playoffs two years ago. We were one game away. You don't think Herbert wouldn't have been good enough for at least one or two more wins that year?

QB is the most important position and if you can’t rely on your QB to play a full season, he’s never going to be a franchise QB . Based on being a top 5 pick, at this point, he is a bust. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a journeyman QB for 10-12 games a year but it’s a miss in terms of what he was supposed to do for this franchise. Had he been taken in the 2nd round, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
