Nope, but he missed most of last season with a shattered leg. Tua started more games last year than Burrow did. So once again, does that make Joe Burrow a bust, since he was drafted #1 overall last season? Or does the same logic you're applying to Tua not work here?
fair point to my hasty response. When you look at the total body of work, Tua has a hard time staying healthy. I don’t trust him to stay healthy. Factoring that in, with having to get pulled because he couldn’t move the offense last year plus ranking 34th in Rating last year and this year, I think he’s a bust. Burrow has shown significant improvement at this point in the season.
Minor point but Tua started 9 games last year while Burrow started 10. Doesn't change your overall argument. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BurrJo01.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TagoTu00.htm Either way, I'm really interested in what happens to Trevor Lawrence. The guy has a 60.3 rating after 118 attempts. Of course, we should wait for him to have more passing attempts (statistically at least 150 is good and even more better), but given how high so many were on this "can't miss" prospect I think it will be interesting to see if he pans out or busts, or turns out just average lol. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LawrTr00.htm
If you look at the stats for those games they are not all too dissimilar either. Edit - Besides Burrow throwing the ball 100 more times.
LOL, Tua is our quarterback. I don't know what else to say. =) If you were our quarterback, I'd be saying the same thing...give the guy a chance to develop and see what he's got!
I watched Lawrence his entire college career and at times in big games, he'd get beat up by pressure and look like an average Joe. But in almost every single one of those games (all but one from what I can remember), he'd have spectacular 2nd half drives to win the football game. Somehow he'd just figure it out and get the offense moving against the top rated teams. Maybe that was partially Etienne...he was ALWAYS fantastic. But I've never seen a more confident college QB except for maybe Burrow in his senior year. Burrow looked like Montana out there in that one season- didn't flinch at pressure and just delivered strike after strike. But Lawrence did it for three seasons and was huge in those big games. I'd be very surprised if he outright busts.
Was Lawrence an option quarterback in college? I don't watch college but in last night's game the only thing he was successful at was the option. He looks terrible in the pocket.
It was more of a pro-style offense. They did run a little bit of option, but it was mostly Trevor dropping back and throwing the football. But then again, Etienne bailed him out hundreds of times by throwing a block and then releasing as an emergency outlet. They just had great chemistry on runs and passing alike.
How you don’t see the potential in a fragile, undersized, noodle-armed quarterback with an 80 IQ is beyond me. Did you not see the production that guy had in college throwing to 5 first rounders and handing off to another 2?
I mean, even if he was better than Marino, which he most certainly isn't, what good would it do? He can't stay on the field
