Ahh. You ignored all of my points as usual. Whatever. There is context to that record, flash. Do you remember that team that completely gutted itself in that first year with Fitzy? Who was the QB who despite having a gutted roster went on that impressive run at the end of the year, gaining much respect for himself and Flo & Co throughout the league ? He wasn't inconsistent and erratic while he was with the Phins and that was part of his "career". He was often forced to play on bad teams. Find other scapegoats rather than Fitz and Gailey for the fact that this team made a collosal mistake and massive failure in judement on selecting and playing your boy, lil' Tua.
Man, I was wrong about Herbert. I didn't want him. I was sure he wasn't all there mentally for the NFL. I was totally wrong. To be fair, I was iffy on Tua as well...I wanted us to trade the house for Burrow.
He absolutely was inconsistent and erratic. The reason he plays for bad teams is because any time he has expectations, he comes up short. Why? Because he is inconsistent and erratic. What he did, however, was provide veteran leadership and a gung-ho aggressive attitude that the coaching staff either didn't develop or beat out of Tua last year. Brissett also is failing to press the issue and attack the defense. For all his faults, Fitz is not afraid to just let fly. He wasn't a solution or long-term answer, but we sure could use the attitude he brought.
I wanted burrow also and we did try to trade for him but bengals were not listening to any trade offers. I would have without any doubt drafted herbert over tua but it is what it is.Typical dolphins always make the wrong choice.
I was wrong too… i did not like what i saw from Herbert in Oregon.. but man o man, he is in that top tier talent. We drafted Greg Oden instead of Kevin Durant. Burrow looks to be a future star too..
I still think Tua can be good. We did screw up and he's not going to be as good as Herbert IMHO, but he could still be good. But not behind this line. The offensive line and the offensive play calling are just putrid.
Watching Herbert tonight just makes me sick to my stomach. I know I have no control over the situation but it’s just maddening watch Miami suck all the while missing out on one of the best QB’s in the league.
We had him for the taking!! No. No. No. Take the small QB who had 5 serious injuries and three major surgeries in college!! The one who played on a team with practically all first round talent. The one who ended his college career with one of the most serious of his many injuries!! Yeah. Take him!! ...not the 6-7. rocket armed, biology major of a QB who ended his college career with two MVP awards!! NO!! Hell with that BS!!
Me too- Burrow had an incredible final season at LSU and looked like a 10-year NFL veteran in the pocket. I've never been so sure about any QB prospect, but it also scared me since it was only one year of film. He was nowhere near that productive the year before and that made it a massive gamble to bet the farm...the smart move was passing on moving up. But gosh, I absolutely fell in love with the kid that season. Truly magical year for him!
I thought Herbert had a Thor vibe Monday night with the lightning and the fact he's a Charger now, But no worry a hobbled Boy Wonder will save us! That's really the best super hero comparison i can think of for Tua..
I wasn’t 100% sold on Herbert but I definitely wasn’t sold on Tua. My point then and now, why roll the dice on a guy who’s short, small and has a history of injuries vs a tall, athletic QB? Going into the draft I wanted Miami to take Herbert or Wirfs. I held a draft party for breakfast club and told the people there that Miami was too stupid not to take Tua and how bad a decision it was.
I did not like Herbert in college and even compared him to Eli Manning here in these boards… but i liked Tua less… when the combine and pro day started and Herbert’s measurables were off the charts… i still was indifferent about him, but i was like well, he’s got the measurables of Tannehill, he’s not as raw as Tannehill was coming out of college at quarterback… if we are gonna take a quarterback at 5, i guess we can take herbert… NEVER wanted Tua.. period.. Though my ideal plan at that time was Wirfs and then with a later pick get Jalen Hurts .. lol all would have been worst options than Herbert, but Wirfs is still going to be damn good, just never as good as a generational quarterback. I was one of the first to say, that Alabama looks better with Mac Jones, when he beat the Vols in his first start after Tua got knocked out… and i got roasted here… look at Mac Jones, already looks more poised and NFL ready than Tua 4 games in.. herbert took some massive hits from Maxx and Yannick yesterday that would have sent Tua to the hospital.
I still don't know about Mac Jones. He's shown some promise and I think he'll be competent, but I still don't get the all-star QB vibe from him. If I had to make a guess right now, I'd say he's a good starter who never makes the jump to the next tier up.
One thing he's doing is helping to put the nail in the coffin of this idea that NE's offense was a system where you could plug almost any QB into it and get similar results to Brady, i.e., that it was mostly coaching. NE's offense was literally top 5 in points scored from 2010-2018, then went "down" to 7th best in 2019, and then in 2020 ended up 27th in points scored, and so far in 2021 they're similarly 27th in points scored. Even if that improves this is clearly one of the worst offenses 2 years in a row.. coinciding precisely with Brady retiring. Meanwhile their defense hasn't missed a beat, even with all the personnel losses last year. It basically shows Belichick is a defensive genius that got real lucky picking one of the best QB's ever in Brady. I just hope this pushes him to retirement early enough that he doesn't catch Don Shula's record of 328 wins. Belichick is currently at 281. That difference of 47 wins would normally take him only 4 years to accomplish. Now? Maybe just long enough to keep Shula at #1.
