I'm not sure what that's so comical to me- we're paying him an average of 2.5M per catch so far. We shouldn't have signed him and drafted Waddle.
Ouch. This season just keeps becoming more and more of a joke each day. I don't have an issue with the signing of Fuller, or drafting of Waddle. Look; we all knew and cried last year that we needed playmakers on offense at the WR position to help Tua. Let's not forget how much we complained about it last year and how for several games last year our WR group was Grant, Hollins, Perry/Bowden Jr. It doesn't get much worse than that. So, adding Fuller and Waddle should have given Tua that firepower needed to get him moving in the right direction. Unfortunately we neglected our OL yet again and we have no offense yet again as a result. Losing Tua hasn't helped either because Brisett is a trainwreck. So while it's easy to sit here and say we shouldn't have paid Fuller and drafted Waddle we have to remember those were positions of need IMO. However, can't deny Sewell would be helping us alot more than Waddle right now. I just think it's too easy to sit here now and say Fuller and Waddle weren't needs; they most certainly were. Priority of needs though when it comes to Waddle should have been considered; especially with Grant on the roster and Wilson coming back. Those two guys could fill the role of what we're asking Waddle to do right now in this offense. Waddle should be taking the top off defenses though; but instead we prefer to throw to him behind the LOS. Can't blame the player for that. With Fuller though; this is what happens though when you gamble on guys with injury problems to be a temporary fix. You're throwing money away. I still think the biggest issue with our offense outside of the OL is the OC situation. The whole unit is just lost it appears. Playcalling, execution, etc. etc. It's just a mess and it starts from the top (Grier) and all the way down from the inexperienced coaching staff on the offensive side and right down to the terrible OL we field every week.
I didn't like the Fuller signing at all. It just felt like a huge gamble - dude is inconsistent and has a long injury history and is coming off a suspension. This news is the least surprising thing to happen this season. As an aside, what is up with us loving injury risks?!?!
I don't wish our players injury ever, but I didn't want him, don't like him, and am not surprised by anything that's happened. The only upside is that this all reduces the likelyhood that the team wastes even more money on him later on. Hopefully, Tua can come back healthy vs the Jags, and will quickly get up to speed with Parker, Waddle and Gesicki, and we can just use Fuller as a deep threat reserve once he comes back.
