Tua would have probably shattered a clavicle trying to do that.:headwall:

Herbert will too... if he keeps doing that ****. What an idiot. Get out of bounds. Your job is to distribute the ball, not get hurt. Not a slight against his play overall though. To date, he's been better than tua.

I like how you tried to make this poor decision by a young quarterback a slight on Tua.

That's probably the dumbest thing a quarterback can do. Luckily he didn't get hurt bad.

It's not a poor decision, he was going for the first down marker. This is contact football, not flag football. Your QB has to be able to take those types of hits and keep on ticking.

This is just an example of Herbert's durability and toughness in comparison to Tua, who would have probably been carted out if he took a hit like that.

He was going for the first down, and he showed he can take a hit and deliver it back. That's the advantage of having a big, tough and durable QB.

Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Joe Burrow and many other quarterbacks would have gotten hurt pulling that crap. Unless you're going for a prime Cam Newton, or Ben Roethlisberger who's had more injuries than any quarterback in the league, this is nothing more than you taking a jab at Tua. Nothing to see here.

Yeah, I think that’s I’ll advised. I could maybe understand if it was the super bowl but that seems like a stupid move in a regular season game. You’re no good to your team if you’re hurt and those defenders are chomping at the bit for any change to actually hit a QB in today’s NFL. Those things add up and no reason to take them.

Sorry man, nobody is going to agree with you on that.

True story- early in Marino's career he'd occasionally get the itch to try to run someone over, and Shula would scream at him for it on the sidelines. In his following contract, it stated that he would be fined every time he tried to run the football if it wasn't a designed play. It's not about toughness....it's about being smart and staying healthy.

I appreciate a QB who is not afraid of contact and will fight for every yard. Good story about Marino, but Marino was also very durable. Either way, regardless of whether it was a good decision or not, the main point is that Herbert can take those types of hits without a problem, whereas Tua cannot.

I want Grier fired as soon as possible. We are never going to get anywhere with him at the helm and the sooner he is gone the better. We need a GM with a proven ability to evaluate talent.

Dudes, he was going for the first down.
He most likely wanted to get out right there. You don’t want to see that all the time, but when it happens, it is sure as hell a lot better when your QB can take the hit and certainly give it and walk away while the defender is on the ground. How anyone can’t see that as impressive is beyond me. Yes, our boy would have been carted off with poop in his pants.

You can't state that with any certainty. You never know from one hit to another. One could also surmise that he was lucky this time.

Because it was an ill-advised decision that didn't even get the first down. Had Herbert gotten injured on this play, people wouldn't call him gutsy - people would call him stupid.

No way. He was trying to get to the marker. Was it a play you want to see your QB regularly try to make? .no, but it happens a lot. This is football, not flag football. Hits are going to happen.
It certainly should make the team feel more comfortable for when he gets sacked that he is not going to get hurt. The point is that he is a strong, tough SOB who really wants to win. He’s smart and it will not happen all the time. That’s not a big part of his game.

Yes. Because if I'm a teammate and I see the starting QB taking a hit that should have been avoided, I'm certainly not going to worry he's going to get himself injured doing something stupid like that.

Man, Tua has a ton of heart and that's not a cool comment to make. His past injury stuff aside, he plays hard and doesn't shy away from physical hits.

Nobody is questioning Tua's toughness. It not a question of toughness, it's a question of physics. Tua is just not physically built to take those kinds of hits without getting injured. His mind might want to, but he doesn't have the body to take it or dish it out.

Why don't we hear it straight from the chargers GM saying exactly what Herbert's coaches and teammates thought about that play:

Actually, his teammates gained a lot of respect for him after that play. Check out the charger GM below talking about that play and how his teammates reacted to it:

i like the head line "Chargers GM tells why they picked Herbert" Duh.. because the 49rs and Dolphins were dumb enough to pass on him.

Dude, key, true or not, I'm just messin' around. It is probably known that very early in the draft process, etc, I was very into Herbert and at one point, I was one of the few, if not the only guy on the board who wanted Herbert(no props ) hehe. I was pimping him big time leading up to the draft. On draft day, I was extremely pissed when we passed on him. I have not been a Tua fan, but after the first game against the Paties, I made a post saying that I thought Tua looked pretty good and seemed much improved and I even defended that pick he threw, etc, etc. I got my hopes up a wee bit..and then before the Colts game, I remember thinking, wait, even if I get my hopes with this guy, he is probably going to get injured at some point and then I got bummed. Then the game happened. In the complimentary post I made after the first game, I mentioned how I am such a die hard Phin fanatic, that when the ball is snapped, I root for whoever is the Phin's QB as much as I've rooted for any Phin QB.

I have also been saying for awhile that it was just such a collosal mistake passing on Herbert for Tua and how that kind of mistake can set a franchise back for many many years. I still feel that way. I am still extremely pissed about that move. I mean, with the partial exception of Pennington and Tanne , just look at the long list of the past shmos the Phins have had at QB since Marino. Well, that long hellish stretch could have been over in that draft, but......we passed and took Tua and look how things are going. It just really sucks. I'll still root for him if he starts taking snaps again, but I will always be bummed about that move and unless we get lucky somewhere along the way, which is possible, we will still be wallowing in this muck for a long time. However, right now, super super bummed. I mean, look how things are going. Ahhhh!

Just imagine the day when we all don't have to constantly argue and debate and be so divided over our QB situation. Wow. I mean, there will always plenty of stuff for us to argue and debate about and that's cool, but man, not the QB. Please. It's been too long. Give us a break. :laughy:

With that said, I think it should be Sinnett time! Wth else have we got to lose? Hey, we may just get "lucky". Maybe? You think?

Grier picking Jackson and Noah in the first round was a reach. What I said is accurate.

Look, I am extremely pissed at Grier. We lost out on our next Marino because of this idiot. Every time I see Herbert playing like that it reminds me of Marino, and what we are now missing out on because of Grier's incompetence.

We've spent 21 years looking for someone to replace Marino. We had him in our laps, and completely missed our opportunity. Let's just hope we don't have to wait another 20 years for our next chance at a HOF QB.

Again, it's not a stupid play, it was a gutsy play. Anybody with any football sense would appreciate that, and his teammates and coaches also appreciated it as you can see from the GMs comments.

Whether you like it or not is another thing. I was not taking a dig at Tua, I have nothing against tua, it's not his fault he is injury prone. My problem is with Grier. I want to see him out of Miami ASAP.

You can spin it how you want. There's not a single coach who'd coach up their QB to take unnecessary hits.

Carson Wentz's career went in the dumpster after taking a hit like that and wrecking his knee. Never been the same.

Then I saw Mahomes take a similar hit week 1 and was totally fine.

This thread is dumb and a pointless speculation hit piece.

So, Daniel Jones is a big guy and he went for the extra yard today and basically got knocked unconscious costing the Giants a chance at the game and probably ending their season.

I'm sure Joe Judge was singing his praises in the locker room for having balls.
