I have been thinking about this a lot lately, but I really think we need to steal a play from the Chiefs' playbook. The Chiefs run a play out of the shotgun where they put Tyreek Hill in motion where the ball is snapped to Mahomes, and he immediately flips the ball to Hill, and Hill runs outside of the tackle into the open field. Technically, this is a pass play, but it effectively works like a run. I think that we should be running this two or three times per game because: A- It gets the ball into Waddle's hands (hopefully in space), and we might just get a big play out of it. B- It mitigates the problems in our line play. C- It could effectively work as a way to add another dimension to our run game.
Anything besides what we’re doing. Trading up for him and then basically using him to a point where he is averaging 8YPC is just stupid.
Lol we'll never get full value out of the Waddle pick, but that's not his fault.. But to get even close to value for him we need a QB that can throw downfield. The play you mentioned, just a quick screen pass to the outside so Waddle can speed around the edge works a lot better when your QB can also throw downfield. Teams can effectively stack the box against us (even with Tua.) so that gives this play (like a running play) a much worse success rate. But I do agree with that general idea of a way to use Waddle. Hopefully we find a way to stretch the field soon. Even if they have to throw it up for grabs to Parker or Gesicki.. gotta get some big chunks in the air or our opponents will keep stacking on us.
Don’t see a Top 10 pick in him can’t hold on to the ball and I didn’t see anything special from him yet. Still don’t get how you could invest multiple first round picks into a slot receiver…
The talent is there all day for Waddle, but he's not been used correctly at all since he's gotten here. That's not his fault at all. I love the pick and the potential, but until we get a Quarterback that can actually throw the ball down field, this is what we're going to get from him. Jamar Chase would fair no better in this offense.
We had Chase at 3 and he looks next level. Im not gonna blame us for trading back for 3 1sts. We could of had Smith at 12 who’s been more productive and kept our pick this year which is likely gonna be a top 10 pick. Outside of drafting Tua, this goes down as one of Grier’s dumbest moves and the list is quite long.
I don't know how anyone could watch this team compared to any other team and think "wow if we only had *insert rookie WR here*"
Waddle is grading out to be the best WR the draft. Slightly higher than than Chase even. He’s doing it with no offensive line. Where do people get these takes?
Waddle is fine. You can tell dude us special. This team is struggling and we do not have an oline or a QB so not sure what you want to see……….
What are you smoking? Who the **** is doing the grading? Waddle has not played anywhere near as well as Chase. Have you ever seen Chase drop a pass for an interception like Waddle did yesterday? Where are Waddle's long TDs and big catches? Chase has tons of them, waddle has none so far.
I don’t necessarily think he’s going to be bad but I just don’t think you spend 2 too 10 picks on a small WR who at this point is possession receiver. You build from the inside out and if Grier thought this OL was gonna be good then that’s the root of the issue. I’d take Chase over waddle plus the 1st rounder Grier will waste anyways. He’s on pace to have one of the best rookie seasons for a WR ever and that’s who I wanted at 3.
The argument should be they should have traded back up for Sewell. Burrow threw a long TD to Chase yesterday on a play in which if he over 8 seconds to throw. That is not a possibility here.
They could have stayed at 12 and drafted Slater, who many pundits had rated higher than Sewell. Plus knowing Sewell missed a year, his development is gonna be slower. Im not going take away 5 games body of work based on one play. Clearly our OL and QB sucks but long term Chase will be a better player if he stays healthy. I felt that way going into the draft and have seen nothing since to change my mind.
I mean, most of us wanted Chase or Pitts. But it is what it is....Waddle is a solid player as well. Does anyone know how Pitts has done so far this year? I think he went to Atlanta? I haven't seen anything on him at all.
I would have said Pitts>Chase>Waddle=Smith but there is no question Waddle would look really good on any other team. He will be a great weapon if they ever develop anything resembling an actual offense.
I'm not worried about Waddle. He's fine, and draft position doesn't matter as much as picking a good player. I'm more worried about Tua. Really hoping he plays well against 0-5 Jacksonville with its 2nd worst pass defense. Jacksonville is giving up an average 115.5 passer rating on defense! Oh, and Atlanta has the 5th worst pass defense, giving up 109.5. If Tua can't manage to play well against those pass defenses then I'm joining the anti-Tua chorus.
I saw a stat that the Giants backup (Mike Glennon?) threw downfield more to Toney in the second half of the Giant's game than we have thrown downfield to Waddle all season. Especially with Fuller being a total non-factor, us not using Waddle vertically has been a crime. Our offensive gameplan is just all kinds of warped - even though it was better this week than it had been, we are still not utilizing our players in the best ways.
It takes time for a downfield throw. Not a whole lot of that with this line. And by the way the 2nd and 3rd string QB playing.
How is Toney doing this season? I really wanted him as well- he's the poor-man's Waddle. Was super dynamic in Florida.
Aah, that's why he wasn't 1st round material- the talent is there, but lots of off-the-field issues throughout college. Too bad.
He's barely played lol. Talented but a headcase. It was just the point, a backup QB is throwing more downfield in a half than us all season. That's not just OL play, that's intentional.
