It looked great on my base PS4, I can only guess what it looks like on the PS5! I'm holding off on any of the DLC until I can play it that way.

Somewhat off topic, I've found it really strange how lately the media (both traditional and social) have started calling people who play a video game series "fans" of said game, rather than "gamers" or "players". To me, the term fan means that I enjoy something without having any actual connection to it, like my fandom of the Dolphins, or the MCU. But for video games, its very different, because of how we use and interact with it.

I think of gamers and players as a general term for people who play video games.

Like a John is a gamer who is a fan of Final Fantasy.

Between playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition and watching The Mandalorian, I am really wishing more than ever to have a Star Wars universe, non-Jedi, party-based RPG to play. It would be so much fun, and they would have countless points in the timeline that they could pick from that wouldn't interfere with the greater events of the movies.

Looks interesting, but hard to play a board game by myself.

Many, many years ago I was briefly into a card collecting Star Wars game similar to (and building off of the hype of) Magic the Gathering. It was pretty cool.

Legends of the Alliance is co-op, so it is easy to play solo.

It is free when you have Playstation Plus on the PS5. Probably to make up for lack of games they give you a bunch of games free.

So far it is interesting. Just makes me think when I was 10 I played the first Final Fantasy.

This game makes me feel old as I can just stare in the distance and be amazed by the graphics. I was practically beating rocks to make fire as a kid compared to this game.

I hope that you have fun with it. I played it before the updates, and plan to go back once I have a PS5.

Reading and seeing all the stuff about the GTA remasters this week has made me realize that I've completely moved on from/outgrown the series, and have absolutely zero interest in them at all. Normally, when something like this comes out (like Final Fantasy or Mass Effect), I can't wait. But this time, just not at all, despite being totally into the games for a long time. But after giving up on the last one after a while on the PS3 because I was waiting for more single player content on the PS4....and that never happened.....I just lost interest.

I've been playing COD since last year when it came out. I don't play Warzone, just never got into it. I prefer to watch this guy play it:

I borrowed Octopath Traveler on the Switch from my local library for a week to try it out, and it lives up to the billing. Its made by Square, and is basically a SNES era Final Fantasy game in all but name. Very much like stepping back into my high school years as a gamer.

As someone who has a ton of fond memories and nostalgia for that era, its a fun time. Younger people or those who weren't into NES/SNES JRPGs might not be as excited, because the graphics are all pixel art, and the game is only partially voiced. I'm going to look for it to go on sale and buy it for keeps, but $60 is just far too much.

Playing FFVI makes me really miss the Active Time Battle system or the Conditional Turn based system of FFX.

When I fight in this game it just feels like stuff is happening and I don't really feel like I am doing anything.

I found the original game (which I played years after release) to be too repetitive, at least not in an interesting way (as most games are somewhat repetitive). Not sure they could have changed much to make me want to try it again. I mean it wasn't bad, but it was just so meh, I was like "why am I spending my time on this 6.5/7 game, when I could play a 9+?" I had to have played for at least 20 hrs.

Perfect feeling of this game, IMO. I played a lot more of it than 20 hours but the game's world felt lifeless- there's no grand cities and not a lot of NPCs to bring it to life if I remember. The combat is snappy but not all that deep- you're basically restrained to a cliche 3 paths (magic, stealth, melee) so classes are kinda bleh.

That being said, it's a good "comfort food" game. It's not going to make you think that hard so you can kinda kick back with some brews or some herbs and just relax and play it.

No, in Texas now (since late 2013 I think). I do game with Mat and Sean (Skeet wasn't the name I recall, but it may have been previously) still. We actually all met in Tampa a few weeks ago to hang out and watch the Dolphins game (though I refused to pay to go to the game).

I just finished a game called Elex, it's a post-apocalypse RPG that got terrible reviews when it launched about 4 years ago. There's still some minor pathing and sound issues but overall, I really loved playing this game. Great story and really fun combat system in an open world. I clocked right at 50 hours would consider another play-through with a different faction somewhere down the line.

With that said, what's another RPG I should consider for the winter holiday break? It looks like I'll be off work from the 24th to the 1st, so I'll need something, LOL.

I tried Elex. I gave it about 30 hours. But i just couldn't get past the terrible combat system and the need to heal your character absolutely constantly.

I "mostly" liked the combat system after I figured out not to fight on uneven terrain, don't spam the main attack and always equip/activate a weapon before jumping (so you can do the flying attack move). I got slaughtered a lot early on but by the end of the game, I could jump into a fight against 5 or 6, kill two or three, fly out and activate heal over time, then immediately jump back in to wipe the remaining opponents.

Also, you get SUPER STRONG towards the end! I was taking out the big combat mechs with a jump attack and then one more regular hit, so they did a good job of making you feel overpowered. I finished the game by wiping out the entire outlaw town, just for the heck of it. Once you kill the leader, they all come for you and it was a good way to say goodbye to the game, LOL.

New WZ map currently. That and F1 2020 against AI here and there to wind down a bit.

With Eldenring coming I am wondering if I should look into Dark Souls franchise. Anyone have brief input? Should I play them chronologically? Stories related from one to the other? Is it all worth it? Can I just play DS3?

I've only tried a few Eastern RPG's and they were all multiplayer. I wouldn't mind trying a single player title.

LOL, I just worked too much in my 30's and early 40's...missed out on a lot of good stuff.

After spending time with the Mass Effect remasters and then jumping into Skyrim again, I finally started playing Biomutant (more than two years after originally buying it and then being refunded due to the delay). I've spent 15 hours with it so far, and the game is fun, but limited at times.

The best big picture analogy I can give is Ratchet & Clank meets Fallout. You play as a small, fuzzy mutated humanoid mammal, in a post-apocalyptic world that's been severely damaged by environmental destruction that wiped out the previous dominant species. To this point, its unclear if this is supposed to be Earth, or an alternate universe planet very much like Earth, but it works the same way I suppose. Its also unclear exactly how much time has passed since this previous race was wiped out, but it can't be more than a few hundred years, because like fallout, the landscape is littered with ruined buildings, cars, trucks, bridges, ect.

The gameplay is fine, but could be better, and tighter. At all times, the player can use either a melee weapon or a gun, and the controls for that function similar to a number of other games, but the problem is that when you attack, the character goes into a preset animation where he just hurls himself into a certain direction rather than at an enemy, and I often end up missing because of that. And then with the guns, there is no auto target (at least so far), and I end up just firing over and over and doing special attacks to inflict damage. The game requires the player to memorize a variety of special attacks, but that's honestly not something I've ever been good at, so I often end up repeating just a few. And that's fine, because most of the time on standard difficulty, the number of enemies is fairly limited and with moderate use of healing packs, I can take them out without dying. I was actually very surprised at how open the game's world is, as you mostly only encounter enemies in areas where they're protecting or defending something.

And while I really appreciate the fairly large crafting system that's there, it can end up being a bit frustrating so far too. I've found plenty of clothes, weapons, and weapon parts that I can use to either upgrade stuff or create it from scratch. But a lot of times, I find myself wanting to put one part onto another to improve my gear, but don't have enough of the tertiary parts that are supposed to be used to hold them together. Those other bits are less common to be found, and while you can scrap other things you find to get more of them, its still not enough, and then you aren't able to sell those items.

Playing on my standard PS4, the games looks pretty good, though like man other the past few years, there's often a bit of blur around the edges, and the light and shadows aren't as crisp as they could be. I imagine it looks better on the PS4 Pro and PS5, and likely doesn't have the occasional slow down and hesitation that it does on my machine too.
