Season is officially over today only 6 weeks after it started. Who would have thought? Me for one. I knew the turnovers and defensive points weren't sustainable, I knew Flores was a bad hire, I knew Tua was wrong the wrong pick at 5. So what do we do going forward?

    Fire Grier immediately.
Fire Flores towards the end of the season because there is not someone on this team worthy of being interim head coach. He was put together a horrible coaching staff.
Do not re-sign Parker, Williams or Fuller. We don't need players who can't stay on the field and these three are injury prone at best.
Trade Xavien Howard. He peaked last season and will never produce close to that ever again.

    Coaching Prospects:
Mike Zimmer is my number one prospect. I think cap management a few season ago really set that team back and if that wouldn't have happened they'd be in much better shape. If they don't make the playoffs I think there is a good chance he gets fired.

    GM:
I'm less certain but possible Joe Schoen?

    What would you do?

I don't think it matters what I would do, because the guy calling the shots is a moron, at least when it comes to football.

Ross may very well give Grier and Flores another year to get things right. Which means firing them in the middle of the 2022 season, as that is the Ross way; to fire a year too late. I'd like to think Ross has learned his lesson after all this time though and at least shows Grier the door and gives the new GM the choice of keeping Flores or getting a new coach.

Looks pretty gray right now, but look at the record of firings by Ross... he has ALWAYS given the GM/coach extra time to clean up the mess and then fires after they prove they can't (the middle of the next season). Even Gase would have gotten another year -except he wouldn't agree to the conditions Ross gave him.

I'd love to make you a bet. But honestly, I think I'm done. Since I am moving out of Florida, it seems like a great time just to make a clean break from the NFL.

Notify the rest of the teams in the league we're having a firesale. I would only keep a small handful of players protected(Maybe.) Probably just Xavien. Gesicki is going to be UFA, which is just another headache for us to look forward to later. I'd like to keep a few other players, but for the right price, I'm open to trading anybody else.

I have a feeling if we tried keeping X in another rebuild, he would just retire or sit out. He's not staying unless we turn the season around quickly.

What do you suggest? I doubt we're going to get a 1st for him, but if it's offered I'd strongly consider it. But I doubt it just based off the issues you mentioned. I refuse to be low-balled, rather just keep him. Besides we're rewarding his bad behavior letting him leave this natural disaster franchise.

What would I do? The season is lost so I would start with selling high on some of the players that may possibly net us a decent draft pick for next season. Not that that matters because this team clearly cannot draft. I'd continue to evaluate Tua. Like it or not he gets the rest of this season and by the looks of it next season as well. Before some of you argue with me on him being the starter next season, I would like you to go ahead and name a legitimate, competent replacement for him between now and next September. Given our draft status and what QB's are available in the draft and free agency, I just don't see one. So...I imagine that he gets a fair crack at the job this year and then into next year.

Good...Now that that's out of the way, I would first and foremost look to upgrade the run defense and linebacking core. Those are two glaring weaknesses right now on this defense. Our linebackers can't cover and they sure as hell can't tackle. The defensive line is lacking depth in the middle and it shows. Kwon Davis and Wilkins are keepers, but we need a true run stuffer in the middle. Pass rush seems to be a work in progress. I know Phillips hasn't made a lot of plays, but we have got to give this kid time to develop. It's there, the ability is there for him to be very good. I actually like the youth we do have on defense. AVG, Needham, Davis, Wilkins, Ogbah, Phillips...There's a lot to like there. Our linebacking core really needs to be re worked though. Jerome Baker isn't an every down LB and yet he's been expected to be one. Not gonna happen at this point. He's too much of a liability in pass coverage.

As of right now, defense and playcalling on offense seem to be the biggest issues that I can see. The offensive line is again, very young and inexperienced. I'd give them the rest of the season to evaluate them as well. See who's got what it takes to be a player in this league and go from there. Call me crazy, but the O line isn't as concerning as the defense or the play calling on offense is. I feel like that group will get it right eventually. I will say this...An improvement in our run game would work wonders for us as team. Get a true workhorse number one back in here like a James Robinson and things are going to go a lot smoother on offense for us. I think that should be addressed as well in the offseason. Gaskin is a nice option in the form of a James White, but he's no lead back. Ahmed I like, but he can't hold onto the ball or catch. Brown is terrible. We need a running back, plain and simple.

This all leads up to management and the internal structure of this team. GRIER HAS GOT TO GO! I like Waddle, and I like Phillips, but you don't pass on Najee Harris and Rashawn Slater when not only are they BPA's at their positions, they are also positions of need. This whole thing falls on Grier and Flores in my opinion and both will need to be replaced.

Cool, well I disagree on the second. He can sit, *****, moan and whine for all I care. That just means no one will want him when his contract is up.. so he can go take his greedy *** to retirement with all that wasted talent.

But, once you let one team low-ball you that sets a precedent.

I would not overpay for Gesicki, he is too one dimensional, and is not even elite in that one dimension. We should have drafted Mark Andrews over Gesicki back in the 2018 draft.

I think we should keep him if Tua plays as well as he did today for the rest of the season. He has good chemistry with Tua and we don't have any expensive players on offense. Pay him like a top tier TE even if he's not.

Herbert sure looked elite today. Its almost like coaching in the nfl and game plans and play calling matter. The same teams win every year for a reason.

Andrew Luck as a QB? Or as like an OC or something? If he wouldn't come back to a competitive Colts team, why would he come back to our dumpster fire?

As for Harbaugh, he's either going to have a good season at UM here, where he loves it and won't leave unless forced, or he implodes which would be another sign the game is passing him by. Either way it's not a great idea imo.

Why would we pay him like a top tier tight end even if he's not? He's a liability in the run game, and his production in the passing game is not that great. If we are going to spend elite tight end money, then logically we should go after an actual elite TE.

To me, Gisecki is our WR1 that lines up at TE. That's what he's been his entire career here. We could call him a slot receiver and then pay him, it really doesn't matter to me, because he's the only constant we've had for the past 4+ years that can consistently catch the football. And to be honest, our #2 receiver is Holland for the same reasons.

Maybe even bring Joe Hortiz as the GM. We need a whole brand change.

I think that you are on the right path. I would offer Ozzie crazy money. If he says no, I would really want to bring in a football guy. Is there a way to bring Peyton Manning in as GM?

I think that the following teams draft really well:

    Baltimore
    Philly
    Pittsburgh
    Seattle
    San Fran
    Dallas
    Minnesota

If I couldn't get a marquee football guy GM, I would be looking internally to these organizations.

I doubt Ozzie wants a full time gig evaluating players and setting boards and all that, but as like a special advisor I would be intrigued by Ross using him to help select a front man for the front office and build from there. Whoever is brought in needs to significantly revamp the way we evaluate and draft players, especially on offense and extra-especially on the OL because we are abysmal.

Coaching wise, Roman is interesting, as is Daboll in Buffalo. Someone in another thread mentioned he was Bama's OC when they brought in Tua and beat Georgia in the title game.

Otherwise yeah, just look at the best organizations and take talent. Byron Leftwich of Tampa, Kellen Moore from Dallas, Eric Bienemy of KC.

The tough thing is we have been here so many time over the last 2 decades it’s hard to believe it’s going to get better. We have now established ourselves as one of the 2 worst franchises in the NFL, along with the Lions. We have sucked less than Detroit.

The frustrating thing is that Tunsil trade should have been a franchise maker and our idiot GM whiffed big time.

You're right. Completely forgot about that. They haven't had much success since though, and either way I don't think it necessarily applies to Payton. I haven't seen anything from Payton to suggest he would be a good GM.
