Tragic, and so stupid given the resources these guys have access to, like free rides home.

That's absolutely tragic- and in most states, that carries significant jail time. Wow.

I will never understand the selfishness of people who still drink and drive in the age of Uber/Lyft.

I’ll never understand it. I pay for Uber every time.

Awful! I hate hearing this. Drunk driving should have steeper consequences.

Depending on the state, he's facing somewhere in the neighborhood of up to 15 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines, then there will probably be a wrongful death lawsuit since he has money. It's tragic because it's two lives wasted- his own and the person he killed. I don't know how you'd ever get over a mistake like that.

That's incredible...and certainly not normal. I have no idea what Nevada laws are like.

Regardless of the outcome of any criminal charges filed against him, the NFL should immediately ban him for life.

If Pete Rosell can be banded from baseball for life for mere betting on games, surely Riggs can be banned for life for killing a person

His jail sentence will effectively end his football career, regardless of any punishment from the NFL.

I agree, something like that would haunt me for the rest of my days. I'm not sure I would want to go on functioning. I can't stand a thief, I can't stand a liar, and I absolutely cannot stand a drunk or a drunk driver. I'm no saint, God knows I've done plenty bad as a younger man, but I quit drinking almost 6 years ago for good and it was one of the biggest milestones for my personal life.

Sad for the person that was killed, but also sad for Ruggs.. hes a good kid, every interview ive seen him in you cant help but think this is a good guy to have on your locker room.. you can say that about every alabama receiver, theyre groomed a certain way. He made a terrible mistake today that will cost him big.

Multiple players have played in the league after killing someone in a drunk driving accident. It will be interesting to see if Goodell is harsher this time around or not.

Gambling is treated severely because of the effect it can have on the integrity of the game itself and how it can lead to accusations of fixing.

There have been too many times that I've been told that nothing good happens after midnight. And although I can testify that that's not exactly 100% true, there's a bit of merit to the saying. I can't imagine being a young man with so much time and money at my disposal, let alone one who lives and works in Las Vegas. He had a bright future ahead of him and I hope he hasn't ruined that.

With that being said, my thoughts in this regard are more with the family of the person who died as a result of his apparent indiscretion. I'd hate getting that call and my prayers are with them to be able to carry on more than they are with Ruggs to be able to turn his situation around. Some "mistakes" are simply too easy to avoid.

Pete Rose was banned not just for betting on his own team's games, but also for betting with the local mob and then lying about it. They had a ton of leverage on him to throw games. He could either comply or have them make a phone call. The real reason that he got the lifetime suspension - and why MLB won't reconsider it - is because a lot of people blame the untimely passing of Bart Giamatti on the stress associated with Rose's situation. Whether that was fair or not, Rose has never been a victim and he never truly owned up to his actions. I'm not sure there's an NFL equivalent to his situation.

It makes zero sense to me how you throw your gifts, talent and your privilege out the window like he did. I am mind blown by this stupidity.

Ross already on the phone looking for clarity on ruggs legal situation. In all seriousness though good for the raiders showing class. This clown could of took a Uber or called the team or nfl ride pick up service. Hes got no one to blame but himself.

Yeah, I was thinking about making a joke like that. Watson to Ruggs in Dolphin colors.... but it's just sad that a young woman is dead, Rugg's girlfriend has serious injuries, and he ruined his life/career too.

    Per wikipedia on Leonard Little:
After leaving a birthday party in 1998, Little crashed into and killed Susan Gutweiler in St. Louis, Missouri who was on her way to pick up her son from a concert. When tested, his blood alcohol content was 0.19 percent, 0.11 points exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Missouri. Little received four years probation and was ordered to undergo a thousand hours of community service.[22]

On April 24, 2004, he was arrested again for driving while intoxicated after being stopped by The Ladue Police Department for driving 78 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone on Interstate 64. At the time, he had red eyes, smelled of alcohol, and failed three roadside sobriety tests. He later admitted that he drank alcohol to the police.[24] After being convicted of misdemeanor speeding but acquitted of DWI, Little received two years of probation on May 6, 2005, and was prohibited from drinking any sort of alcoholic beverage during his time of probation.[25]

Our justice system is a joke. Oh, and an 8 game suspension from the NFL.

That would be scary enough on a straightaway with no other vehicles present. After drinking, with a passenger, and on surface streets? Unconscionable. I’m amazed there was only one fatality
