I saw this in another thread, we are dead last in pressures allowed and it’s not even close.

    Our OL PFF ranks:
    Dieter/Marcz/Reiter- 19/20/31
    Hunt- 58
    Jackson- 68
    Liam- 76
    Davis- 73

We don’t even have one player in the top half of their position group. It be hard not to call Jackson anything beyond a huge bust at this point. This is beyond maddening. I know we’re going but they’re actually worse than last year.

The likely answer is a combination of coaching and talent but interested in hearing your thoughts.

I am going with the coach because the coach is in charge of the position coach.

Talent is a part of it, however, I have seen them all play better than they are this year.

All these guys have the ability to play well at this level. It's coaching plain and simple. We've invested a lot in the offensive line over the past three years.

Our owner is a clown, our GM is an idiot who let veterans go to start an almost all rookie or second year line, our scouting department wouldn't recognize a good offensive linemen if their life depended on it, and our Oline coach is an incompetent novice. All of that combined gives us the worst offensive line in the league this year.

Flores also bears responsibility. He should have benched Jackson a long time ago. Kindley was playing much better than Jackson is right now, yet Kindley got benched purely because Jackson has a higher draft pedigree. Seems Grier doesn't want to look even more stupid by having another first rounder benched. Also, Davis should be moved back to RG, and Hunt back to RT. Davis has never been a good Tackle, his best play throughout his career came while playing RG. How many sacks and pressures must he give up before these idiots figure it out? Hunt also played much better last year at RT than he is playing this year at RG.

    Jesus, all of it.

However I think coaching is the biggest culprit. Some of these guys might just be chumps, but we are not only lacking improvement, but completely regressing. A dude coming out of OL factory Notre Dame, starter for 3 years, playing THIS badly? That screams poor coaching.

But man, the obsession with Jesse Davis just looks horrendous, Austin Jackson is a turd. We traded for a dude who hasn't even been active this season.

    Dumping the veterans didn't help.

We need better coaches at every position including head coach.

I mean, I feel like with good coaching we might just be able to be regular bad. But this OL is historically awful, it's been one of the linchpins of failure this season. Nobody should be exempt from the consequences, from the person/people picking the talent, the system that brings in or values lousy players, the head coach that picked this godawful staff, the positional coaching that is driving us rapidly in reverse to the actual players who could be replaced by a cone without serious loss in play.

Outside of coaching, is the main problem that we don’t have a true LT? I thought Eich would be better at RT but it seems we have too many RT’s and the best 2 aren’t playing there. Just wonder how that LT factors into all of this. And Jackson needs to ride some pine.

Everything starts with Flores. His complete inability to hire and retain quality coaches has doomed the team. And I have zero hope that its going to get better from here on out.

I think that most of these young players would be playing a lot better on most other NFL teams. Maybe not good. But I think that a lot of them would be average starters. But we've had constant turnover with the offensive coaching staff and the ones we bring in keep getting worse and worse. Its a disaster.

Flores absolutely needs to go and be replaced with someone who knows what he's doing on the offensive side of the ball.

I mostly agree, other than to say that the inability to bring in coaches might be due to reasons above Flores. Maybe not, but maybe so. Figuring out that piece of the puzzle is 100% essential.

I'm 100% in favor of firing Grier too. We can't fire Ross.

Without a doubt, it's all coaching. Flores is the problem. If his assistants aren't doing the job, it's his fault. The margin between a top NFL OL and the bottom OL is very minimal. We see it time and time again in Miami. These so called terrible players go on to have serviceable careers elsewhere. Sure there's a complete dud from time to time but every team gets a dud here and there. There's no need to look any further than the coaching staff.
