Thanks for the info, brother. I have a feeling that if Parcells wants him, then he will interview Sparano and burn Atlanta one more time.

Well, we just got to hope Parcells make the decision on Cameron soon. Wouldn't want to just let Sparano walk if he is felt to be the guy.

It sucks that Parcells and Cameron won't talk until tomorrow. After Parcells talked to the team and fired Mueller he went to spend time with Virginia Tech as they are preparing for the Orange Bowl. Cameron will be meeting with players until 9:00PM tonight. I just wish that talk could have been squeezed in today.

Hopefully Parcells is the one that determines the entire coaching staff as well, not just the head coach.

A rookie offensive minded coach replaced by... another rookie offensive minded coach?

Another long year ahead of us if we hire a new rookie HC...

    Please keep Cameron.

My gut tells me that Sparno was told by Bill that Cam is staying and he should go interview else where.

More than likely this is a move similar to the one Bill made.. He can interview and have options to make the fins up the money if they really want him. Arthur Blank will pay top $$ though. He does not want Miami to out-do him once again..

Interesting turn of events... however, the Falcons had all-but-signed Bill Parcells before Wayne hired him, so, I'll take the announcement of Sparano's interview with the Falcons with a grain of salt.

I think Cam needs to go, and if Sparano is the guy Parcell's wants as his replacement... then, he'll be the new head coach of the Dolphins... regardless of the Falcon's bumbling owner interviewing him.

Heck, for all we know, this may just be a ploy of Sparano's to get more money from the Phins. Everyone knows Wayne has very deep pockets, and he's not afraid to spend any amount of money to hire someone who he thinks will improve the team he loves... and right now, the guy he wants is whoever Parcells tells him to want... and Parcells reportedly wants Sparano.

    Just tossing something out there...

I think Parcells does things quite methodically, that might be the reason why he didn't fire them both at the same time. A lot of times the GM is fired and hired before the coach. I can't see him keeping Cam. The two just don't mesh...

Curious. Parcells spurns Blank. Falcons don't interview anyone. It is rumored that Parcells is interested in Sparano, and suddenly Sparano is the first to interview in Atlanta.

Will Blank hire Sparano just for spite?

It could also be that Bill wants to get Ireland in place first to give the illusion that Sparno will be hired by him.

Why would that illusion be necessary?

I think Bill may want to let the GM he hires have some say in who he hires to be the coach. Bill signed a 4 year contract. Hopefully the GM he hires wants to be here for the long haul and is successful enough to stay. It would only make sense to build a structure where that GM is comfortable working with the HC even after Parcells retires.

It'd be nice to burn Atlanta twice, lol.

I don't know enough about Sparano to wish for it, but I trust Parcells of course.

My gut tells me that Parcells doesn't want to hire Sparano. It's a media created link - nothing more. Parcells staff was raided the entire time he was at Dallas. I imagine Jones gave Sparano a title of assistant head coach just to avoid losing him to a coordinator position. I've been searching names like Dan Henning who I believe Parcells will resolve is too old. Nonetheless I think Parcells head coach is not currently in Dallas. I believe the continuous raiding of Bill Parcells staff was partially responsible for his retirement. His head coach is somewhere in his past beyond 2005-2006. A termination of John Fox or Tom Coughlin would settle a coaching search instantly.

I'm just saying he hires Ireland and then he in turns hires Sprano.
It's a game just like the other GM interview they've got set up to appease the Roony rule.

That is an interesting angle. And a lot of it makes sense. But I do have a couple of counterpoints.

It seemed the same media was reporting the Mueller firing and the Ireland hire. Mueller is out and Ireland is interviewing tomorrow. So it does seem that someone in Parcells' circle is leaking reliable stuff to the media. The media isn't being forced to create things.

He did prevent Sean Payton from hiring Sparano, so certainly holds him in high regard.

Parcells' retirement was mostly due to the fact that he can't stay in one place for very long. He prefers the challenge of building, rather than maintaining. Other than Payton, who did Parcells lose while in Dallas?

Yeah but everyone plays the Rooney rule game.

Jerry Jones didn't refuse Bill the right to interview Ireland, and a GM having final say doesn't always apply to the hiring of a coach.

There is something to the fact that Parcells moved so quickly to fire Randy on Sunday, interview a Rooney candidate on Monday, then schedule an interview for New Year's day with his target Ireland. I think he felt he needed to move quickly for his GM, but there may not be the same hurry to hire the new coach.

But I still think it is more likely that he wants to include Jeff Ireland in the discussion about the head coach, rather than simply hire him first for simple window dressing.

You can interview them during a bye week without permission so long as the new job would be a clear promotion.

Sparano can interview for any head coaching job during the bye week, and Jones couldn't stop him.

Since Bill is likely to blur the line between owner and GM in his role with the Dolphins it was speculated that Jerry Jones could challenge the idea that Jeff Ireland would truly be a GM with final say if Bill is looking over his shoulder. Jones didn't protest.

I did some google searching when the Ireland name first came up. Parcells brought in an entirely new scouting group when he arrived in Dallas. Their last man with the title before Ireland had the job for 14 years prior to Parcells arrival. It only made sense to me that Ireland would be in the works for Parcells here. It made sense to everyone that was capable of a google search (or two).

Payton was trying to take the entire staff (as does every other new head coach). It's part of the territory. You know the last place you have been (not much more).

Maurice Carthon - Browns (now Cardinals)
    David Lee - Arkansas
    John McNulty - Rutgers
Mike McIntyre - Jets (now Duke)
    George Warhop - 49ers
    Sean Payton - Saints

That is the original group that he BROUGHT to the Cowboys in 2003 that eventually left for greener pastures. Parcells had to replace AT LEAST three coaches per year during his tenure at Dallas.

    Excellent work Zod.

But I still think there is fire to go with the Sparano smoke.

In the end I'll be happy with whomever Parcells wants.

Isn't it nice to have someone knowledgeable in charge so that we don't have to do all the work ourselves?

Yes. As long as he is in Parcells past, that makes him a candidate. But I ain't placing much more to it than that.

Something about the comments Parcells was making about interning a head coach made me think that Cameron had a chance. I think that chance has something to do with the "no hoodlums and gangsters" line too.

A Head Coach doesn't do much "hands on" coaching at all. I think Cameron has to learn that fact. Parcells might feel he can assist in that regard.

its possible that, In the eyes of the NFL, Bill needs to hire a GM first, Then the GM will hire a Head coach if need too.

IF Fox is fired, hire him as our new DC. Coughin has problems relating to players - look at the NYGs.
