Harbaugh is a proven HC, not overrated. McDaniel is another hot coordinator in a long list of hot coordinators we've signed previously with terrible results.

McDaniel has never called a play in his life. Also…and I hate to make fun of the way people look but you can’t put a guy who looks like a Best Buy/Geek Squad manager in charge of your football team.

This came from Brandon Jacobs @bears4life8 so take it for what it’s worth. If this is true would this be true for the Dolphins as well? Could Grier be on his way out also??

Maybe, but with Ross and Harbaugh relationship I think this would be less critical. Ross would likely fire Grier if it meant getting Harbaugh, but unless Harbaugh has someone in mind he wants in place day 1 it’d be pretty easy for Ross to sell it as “you’re my boy. Let’s see if Grier works out, and it if doesn’t we’ll be on”.

Vikings is a different animal. If Harbaugh comes I assume he’ll have the keys to the kingdom, and we’ll see how that plays out.

    Should be an interesting week.

    We interview McDaniel again today.

What do you think are the chances he's our new HC by the end of today?

Not to mention SF’s offense went into a shell when they had the lead in the NFC championship game. Maybe that’s on Shanahan but to your point, I’ll take a proven HC over a unproven guy every day and twice on sundays.

I hope not but nothing I’ve hoped has stopped the bad decisions Grier and Ross continue to make. They need to land Harbaugh.

Landing Harbaugh and losing Grier would immediately take this franchise multiple steps forward. The only other thing you could ask is for Ross to lose the Dolphins to someone who cares and isn’t incompetent in a poker game.

What would be worse, landing McDaniel and then Harbaugh going to Minnesota or Harbaugh going to Minnesota and then landing McDaniel?
    Or maybe Kellen Moore...

If Harbaugh is returning to the NFL to win a SB, why would he come to a division where he has to play Barffalo twice and a resurgent New England twice when he could go to the Vikings and play Detroit, Chicago and, a Rodger less Packers team?

Because he looks smart and has said some funny (not really) things during press conferences? I guess he would be my preference over a retread like Vance Joseph, but I don't understand how anyone could not want Harbaugh.

Well they would be in a better position for him to mold to his liking with their cap space while already being playoff caliber. Maybe they offer a better deal and it being Miami helps offset the having to play Buffalo aspect.

From a business standpoint, there's a huge benefit going to an organization where you have a long history with the owner. Ross & Harbaugh have been friendly for decades, so that would play in his favor if he chose Miami and it would also minimize Grier's role. I think it would be an ideal fit because of how it changes the power dynamic in the front office.

If we hire McDaniel, I'll still be excited but it's a completely different feel as he tries to work with Grier and the front office. Maybe it's great...but maybe not. There's more uncertainty there because he can't just pick up the phone and reach out to Ross the way Harbaugh could.

Either candidate is a good hire, but I feel like Harbaugh would be much better for us long term. Also, if it's Harbaugh, then it explains why we fired Flores when we did and probably indicates a much more long-term plan between Ross-Harbaugh that started years ago.

He let his DC go to his brother and the Ravens. I hope that means he's comfortable keeping Miami's defensive staff intact. It could explain why they aren't running around getting new jobs. You would think they'd be increasingly uncomfortable as Heach coaches are getting hired and staffs assembled.

I agree- why would they stay? Why would our QB coach leave? Why would they bring it up in interviews that they don't want to swap out our defensive coordinators...and that we'd like to keep Tua? I have a gut feeling that this has been in play for months now.

If Harbaugh returns to the NFL and Ross can’t use his connection to U of M and likely relationship with Harbaugh, then whatever shred of hope I have for this organization is completely gone.

Love all this talk about harbaugh being a proven winner… despite never winning SB or national championship. He has perennially underachieved at Michigan until the option year of his contract despite premium advantages of a marquee program and his SF stint basically ended in a failed Coupe attempt. Doubt Grier wants that on his hands. Hoping its McDaniel. He’s intriguing. Ive seen Harbaugh’s best and found it wanting.

I need a little more than "intriguing" out of a HC candidate. McDaniel seems like the typical good coordinator, not so good HC type.

I don't think the problem was Tua. It seems to be Flores' relationship with Grier/Ross.

Strong disagree on Harbaugh's resume. The guy has a winning record everywhere he's been and his teams are more than competitive. He's had resources, but the programs he's taken over were middling performers at best he's built into contenders in short order.

He was 50-29 at Stanford who was a terrible program before he took over.

Harbaugh was 44-19 at San Francisco who had one .500 winning season in the 8 years before he arrived. He took them to 3 divisional championship games and a Super Bowl appearance in the 4 years he was there.

He is 71-49 at Michigan, who whole being a "blue blood" program has been down for better than a decade. Even there his worst season (not counting COVID, that **** doesn't' count IMO with the B10 half-assed attempt) was 8-5. He's been 10-3 or better 4 of his 7 years, and was 9-4 once.

Dude has a 60% win rate in NCAA over 11 years, and a 69% win percentage in the league.

That's not to say I think Harbuagh is the answer, or that he'll be better than McDaniel, but I wouldn't peg him as an average coach by any means. He's been a very good coach with results at both levels. I'm not nearly as doom and gloom as most fans are here...I liked Flores, but there were obviously serious conflicts in the FO and a side was chosen. I have my issues with Grier but I had my issues with Flores too so I could flip a coin on them. As far as a new HC, I'd be excited about McDaniels for sure, but honestly I'd prefer someone with HC experience, and not may have the resume of Harbaugh or Pederson.

Harbaugh IMO is what this team needs right now. This team needs someone at HC with credibility. This organization needs to be stabilized; and become credible again in the eyes of the NFL. Right now; it's nothing but a joke. From the years upon years of mediocre results; constant QB and coaching carousels, and an owner that's never here. The stigma around this organization prevents us from really building anything special. Landing Harbaugh this time around helps to solve that issue. Much like a move like Caldwell would. It gives you credibility again that you're hiring good football people. IF Harbaugh comes his impact will beyond the seasons he coaches here IMO. He will rebuild the culture of this organization into that of a winning organization. You can not dispute the fact he's done that everywhere he's been. He built Stanford into a respectable winning football program when there; along with Andrew Luck. They've certainly fallen off since he left. He built San Francisco into a winning team with a Super Bowl appearance. They fell off after his departure but now Shanahan has brought them back to respectability. Michigan... Harbaugh inherited a pretty mediocre team but built that program back up into a Big 10 championship calibre team. IF he stays this year there's no doubt they'll be in contention for the CFP again. This build took longer than a Michigan fan like myself would have wanted; but the lack of having a QB prospect was the biggest issue he's had and IMO it's still the issue that prevented them from even competing against Georgia. Now with McCarthy he may have a talented QB there if he stays; either way though he's rebuilt that program into what it should be again.

That's the benefit to Harbaugh IMO. He may not win us a Super Bowl; but he can certainly come in and fix this mess. Grier has too much power as it is right now; and his track record is mediocre. I guess the team forgets that in it's smear campaign of Brian Flores they made it look like Flores had wrestled most control in personnel matters (and to be honest; the head coach should!) from Grier and wanted even more control; but then... who's really responsible for this roster that Ross thinks is rebuilt now? Oops.

At the end of the day we need a head coach with a winning mentality and a clear track record of rebuilding success and restoring credibility. Jim Harbaugh brings you that; and winning follows. Of course he's brash; many winning coaches can be because they demand results. Apparently Grier can't handle that; he prefers mediocrity and a gentle touch. Relationships are key; and Harbaugh may be a brash guy but he's incredibly well connected and most people would love the chance to work on his staff because it can propel you to better things. He's a leader through and through as well.

While I do think his Michigan teams seemed unprepared to play some weeks especially against top teams I also think alot of that was talent deficiency. They weren't built to beat Ohio or the Spartans; or Georgia; or many of the teams they played in those bowl games they lost under Harbaugh. I dont think people realize the shape that program was in when he took over; Jim and his staff (especially Don Brown) early on really got 125% out of those kids. Talent eventually caught up and we see how that turned out this year.

Option year in contract is irrelevant IMO. The guy took a big paycut last year to avoid parting ways with Michigan; only to turn around revamp his coaching staff (getting younger and changing philosophy at most positions), build his team and coach that team into a Big 10 title and a CFP appearance. I dont think that success last year was in any way related to his contract and pay moving forward; of course it's likely going to benefit him if he stays at Michigan but he's just doing his job at the end of the day.

Anyways; IMO that's what Harbaugh can bring this organization and it's badly needed IMO. McDaniel can't bring you that. Shanahan is the offensive genius out in SF and McDaniel to me seems along like Philbin 2.0 in the resume department. What is he really responsible for our there? Is he a leader of men; or capable of being so? Given the point we're at in this rebuild this team needs a leader and a proven coach to elevate these guys; McDaniel to me seems a step back compared to Harbaugh in that department. McDaniel will be another guy trying to find his way; while Harbaugh will come in here and jump right into doing it his way and the whole organization will follow suit.

Agreed, and he went after him, while still already having a head coach. You're going to tell me Ross firing Flores, a winning coach, and Harbaugh becoming available in the same yr is a coincidence? Dude has lusted for harbaugh his whole ownership.

Ross may not land harbaugh, but it won't be because he's convinced by someone else not to try.
