We were tanking for a QB. Prior to the season, Tua and Herbert were the leading contenders, then Burrow exploded. It has been reported that Ross' focus shifted to Burrow pretty quickly and that he was the primary target, doubly so after Tua was injured. With the Tua injury, it was fairly clear that Burrow was the #1 in the class.

Agreed. It was pretty clear early on that Burrow had separated from the pack in spite of what people thought coming into the season.

I don't think there's any problem with an owner's purposefully losing games in the present-day NFL, if the intent is to get an elite QB in the draft. The mistake Ross made was in not hiring a HC who was on board with that, or in not hiring an interim HC for the season of tanking and then hiring a long-term one the following offseason.

If the organization's goal is to tank for a QB, obviously it can't proceed effectively toward that goal if the HC of all people isn't fully on board. It's hard to believe Ross wasn't intelligent enough to determine that. If he has to offer Flores six figures of a monetary incentive to lose single games, obviously Flores wasn't on board. How is tanking that important to Ross but he's not savvy enough to get a HC in place, even for just one year, who's on board with that?

How can this organization seemingly never get everybody on the same page?

This is part of the whole situation that I am not really sure adds up to racism.

Suppose the Giants wanted Daboll as their number one choice, I am not sure that it makes Flores's interview a sham at all. Daboll had multiple interviews this coaching wave. What if Daboll decided that he preferred the Dolphins' job over the Giants? What if Flo wound up having a really solid interview and wound up landing the job?

Even if the Giants first choice was Daboll and Daboll's first choice was the Giants, there is a reason for the interview. I think there is something to be said for both sides sitting down, making sure that they are on the same page, and making sure that it is right for both of them. I also think that there is a reason that Daboll would take other interviews. Perhaps a team surprises him and has a plan that he really likes or offers him considerably more money or power than another team is willing to offer, maybe he changes his mind.

I remember a few years ago when Josh McDaniels accepted the Colts offer and backed out at the last second. Frank Reich wound up landing that job. Making a good impression with a given team could pay off in unexpected ways. Last offseason, we interviewed Mike McDaniel for our OC job. He didn't get it. But now a year later, he clearly made a strong enough impression that he is now a favorite to land our HC job.

I really do not think that these interviews are the sham that he believe that he believe they are.

Exactly.I get being pissed at the Giants or broncos but he ****ed up here disobeying orders in 2019.With Rosen we had the excuse of seeing what we had with a QB we gave up a 2nd and a 5th for.But no that wasn't good enough you and so you had to put Fitz back in and screw everyone's future up including yourself!
His own ego caused us to trade a possible hall of famer in Fitzpatrick to the Steelers.
Result back to where we were before the tank.
    Good riddance!

We can only hope… and they better not allow him to sell it to a successor..

Between this and possibly a record breaking deal the Broncos are about to make… i have hope for new ownership in the near future… hopefully the broncos sell for 4 billion+ and it would be too tempting an offer for Ross not to sell at his age.

Allegations of racism aside - there's one thing that is beyond debate. This is just another example of Stephen Ross being an unmitigated disaster and joke of an NFL owner. And with this, it's pretty much damn near impossible to cheer for this team now. It's a pile of **** from top down. Who is there to cheer for? The players I've cheered for over the years are gone. The only person who offered a bit of hope for this franchise, Brian Flores, was canned. This disaster will make it impossible to hire a competent coach. There is nothing to look forward to about this team. I'm done with it until Stephen Ross is not longer the owner.

Ross did make the stadium pretty sweet using his own money. Bringing in Tennis and F1 is a success as well.

Just not that great at NFL HR thing.

"Ross did spend money on his own business to diversify, improve and hopefully make his business a success."

Ross spending money on the stadium etc. is what he should do. There's nothing exceptional or kind about it.

Lots of Pro Sports owner hold cities hostage so they can get a publicly-funded stadium. Miami should be familiar with this. #Marlins

Indeed. Because they can get away with it. What the majority do is just the mega rich throwing their weight around. Ross investing in his own business isn't kindness, it's a business investment.

just like i said last night, the 100k bonus offer would be the bigger story. Now things are about to unravel here. Good luck getting McDaniels to sign with us now… we are going to start the season with an interim head coach.

The rule is very racist, but I fail to see how the Dolphins or the Giants are being accused of racism. They hired him, are they now not allowed to fire him? That would be a scary situation for any NFL team that wanted to hire a minority, never allowed to fire them. The Giants are forced to interview someone, they did what they are forced to do. I've been interviewed before and not gotten the job because they HAD to interview x number of people. Yeah, it sucks, but it is life. Get rid of the rule and this would not have happened.

Some reason i feel like we are about to hear from Steve Wilks, Leslie Frazier and others who may have been put in a similar situation where theyre asked to lose and let go after the job was done.

but maybe not, because its a career killer.

I don’t think he’s accusing the Dolphins of racism; he’s saying he was ultimately fired because he wouldn’t go along with the tank. The racism claim is to the NFL hiring practices overall, and towards the Giants and Broncos on his personal experience.

After watching the video I feel badly for Flores. I get it his feelings were hurt about the Giants job. Gotta get over it and move on. He likely would have gotten another job, but not now, he has totally screwed himself. Any one else find it ironic his lawyers are not a minority?

I'm not sure he has grounds for a successful lawsuit on the basis of the tanking scenario/complaint. If the organization's goal is to lose and he is under the organization's authority, his not cooperating with losing could indeed be grounds for dismissal. Where has it been legislated that an organization must have the same goals as its employees?

Certainly people can agree with Flores that tanking is "bad" and he didn't have cooperate with it by losing, but that doesn't mean he has grounds for a successful lawsuit. Not cooperating with the goals of the organization for which one is employed should make one expect to be terminated. If you don't like the organization's goals, then quit and get another job. You can't stay in the job, essentially be insubordinate, and then sue the organization and win because its goals and yours weren't the same.

    Flores' Laywer:

"In the 59-page lawsuit, Flores said Ross offered him $100,000 per loss in 2019 as Ross hoped the Dolphins would lose enough games to land the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. On Wednesday, one of Flores’ lawyers said there’s corroborating evidence for Flores’ claims, beyond what is detailed in the lawsuit. “We’re going to prove that if this case continues to go,” Douglas Wigdor told CNN. “There’s going to be corroborating evidence, there’s going to be other witnesses, there’s going to be emails and texts. We’re confident in that allegation. As Brian said, you don’t just make that up.”"
