Following the Miami Dolphins under the ownership of Steven Ross is like watching a really long season of Curb Your Enthusiasm except without the funny and with more awkward and disastrous outcomes with every decision he makes.

Listening to his lawyers interview on WFAN in New York, they have nothing on Ross besides "Flores' honesty". He says the conversation happened and they won't say there were other people in the room other than that he called people afterwards and told them about it.

His lawyers are saying the Dolphins fired Brian Flores because he was black.

    This case is dead.

Very unlikely he won't be a head coach again, but with this "SUIT" against the NFL hew may have just cost himself for sure.

Or it means that it WAS part of the interview process, Flores started going rogue, and Ross figured he could just buy him. And Flores told him to go **** himself basically. Lol

What system is rigged? Are there not black cops, lawyers, doctors, politicians, a black president? In this country, with enough hard work and dedication, ANYONE can be anything they want. No one is oppressed. Stop with your nonsense

All things take time, I liked what Dave Hyde said: 20-25 years ago it was an exception when you had a black QB nowadays that’s not the case anymore, hopefully we’ll see the same for coaches and owners one day.
As for Flores I think it’s mostly sour grapes and he should have chosen a different path imo., but as of now I think he’s quite full of himself. If it comes down to that Ross has to sell the team then it maybe is something good after all…

Let’s be honest, every year fans call for their team to tank for the top pick to land a franchise changing talent. Is it a surprise to hear that an owner or front office would want the team to tank to land the top quarterback prospect?

No. If Ross tried to incentivise or suggest that the team tanks, he won’t be the first owner to have done so. It’s like the New Orleans Saints and bounty gate. They weren’t the first or only team to have a bounty system. Nor were the spy gate or deflategate Patriots the only team to have done what they were accused of. What those teams have in common is that they got caught and punished, while other teams that did the same thing past and present got away with it. The same will happen with us if it’s proven. We won’t be the first or only team to have done this, we’ll just be the team that got caught and punished for it to set an example.

Witnesses- plural. How crazy would it be if Grier were one of them? I know that doesn't sound likely, but if Grier was out the door because of Harbaugh potentially coming in, then all of that would probably fall into place very quickly.

This is going to be some fireworks!

By the way guys, who's our team next year? Can we change this to a Cinci forum since we all love Burrow so much?

The owner has to be approved by the other owners. Has that been done officially? Public pressure might be high enough that the owners are forced to approve a minority owner.

One reason why we tend to see more white coaches in college and the NFL is that typically a lot of white collegiate players don’t make it to the NFL, so they turn to coaching to stay in the game.

For example, current NFL head coaches - Arthur Smith, John Harbaugh, Sean McDermott, Kevin Stefanski, Mike McCarthy, Andy Reid, Nick Sirianni, Bruce Arians, Pete Carroll - all went from college to graduate assistant or some form of college assistant coaching position. There are current coordinators and assistants in the NFL and college that followed the same path.

I wouldn’t be surprise if there was an element of white privilege behind some white players getting a break, but it is also possible that some of those coaches realised they were never going to make it as a player and turned to coaching, whereas a greater proportion of black players make it to the pros and perhaps don’t turn to coaching as often or as early as white players do.

A solution to this could be to get college programs to pinpoint players that could be good coaches that might not necessarily make it to the pros and offer them internships. Likewise, in the pros, incentivise teams to develop black and minority coaches. Suggest coaching to the players nearing retirement or those hanging to playing contracts by their finger nails, then offer them assistant positions on staffs. Ultimately reward teams a third round pick for a promotion to a coordinator role, both for the team that developed them and the team that hired them; and then a second round pick for head coaching promotions. If teams and college programs make more of an effort to get black and minority candidates into coaching, maybe we’ll see numbers shift over time?

Yes it has which is why it’s important to strip Ross of his succession plan. He shouldn’t be allowed to pick his successor. The commissioner must use this embarrassment to undo the succession plan or we are truly screwed.

The thing is, even if Flores proves that Ross did try to incentivise ranking, would the NFL strip him if his ownership?

I’m not convinced they would. Kraft didn’t lose his team when the Patriots cheated. Instead, they were punished. I suspect the same would happen to Ross and the Dolphins, we’d get punished.

The only time I can see Ross losing the team is if Flores or someone else has proof that he has been racist (eg Donald Sterling lost the Clippers) or done something morally wrong (eg Jerry Richardson lost the Panthers).

First off, offering to pay someone to rig a professional sports match is a crime, both in Florida and nationally. Flores didn't even have to accept the bribe for it to be a crime...just the offer is enough.

Second, Ross didn't cheat- he spit on the integrity of the game. Everyone talks about tanking like it's no big deal, but it absolutely is for an owner since it violates their ownership agreement. The spirit of the game is to compete, to give it everything you have to win. That can't be violated- it's the one thing that's sacred in sports.

Third, even without the other stuff, the media slaughter coming for Ross in the next few weeks will be enough to force him to sell. Nobody will ever believe a word he says again. This is going to get UGLY as the media releases the hounds on the internet.

Fourth, you should be hoping for this to happen as a fan, because it's going to be impossible for us to get coaches, free agents, etc. Nobody will want to be associated with the Dolphins after this and we already had trouble hiring. Our team is literally doomed with him as the owner...it's possible we don't have a head coach for 2022 if he's still here by then.

Fifth, the existing players on this team will want out. They'll be forced to take sides- do they choose the Dolphins owner or BLM??? This is going to be chaos if it's not taken care of very quickly. Nobody wants to waste their career with an owner who could care less about them.

Or coaching and playing are two different skill sets. Most of the players I hear interviewed can barely form a coherent sentence. It's why saying that 70% of the players are black so this should be represented as such is nonsense. Because being a great player RARELY EVER translates into being a GREAT COACH. Most of the good or even great coaches were never great players or had mediocre carriers at best.

Why shouldn't it be the guy with the most money? Again with the tribal politics that it has to be a minority. This is a business. If he's the highest bidder then bring him, her, they, (insert pronoun here) on.

yeah, I'm not going to hang Ross for tampering and tanking which is universally agreed upon that it occurs every single season in every american sport. Nothing the dolphins did was racist and flores throwing shade on the phins while bringing his complaint against the rooney rule is ridiculous. Now i agree the rooney rule is a sham and a lot of these black coaches get fake interview and its a problem but the stuff with the dolphins has nothing to do with that.

FYI, I hate ross and its no skin off my back if he gets ousted for this but it would be ridiculous imo.
