Honestly though, opportunity lost. Every time you score a TD at home, fans can throw their underwear on the field, like they throw sea creatures in the NHL. Edit: Or Bills fans and dildos!!
people are whiny. I cant imagine anyone being offended by the Washington Whiteskins. Oh wait, they would complain about having a white named team.
All I'll say is that it's important who's writing the history. Think about it this way- we have our version of Pearl Harbor and what led to dropping nuclear bombs, and Japan has their version. Which one is "correct"? The honest trust is that they both are. While I agree with you that "Redskins" doesn't seem offensive, I can't speak for Native Americans. I can tell you that some protested the name for quite a long time, so it obviously bothers some. And honestly, it doesn't matter their reason...maybe it's a dumb one and they don't know the origin of the name. That doesn't matter if they deem it offensive. Now, we can have a conversation on where we should draw a line. But we can't decide who is offended by what- that's everyone's personal choice.
The should have been called the Washington Crimson Epidermis. Which basically means redskins but is not defamatory.
Washington Native Crimson Epidermis. They really botched the name change though. They even stole the 'Take Command' catchphrase from the AAFL San Antonio Commanders*. *Commanders in reference to the leaders of the Alamo defense actually made sense versus the much more generic Washington use.
