"Six former employees of Washington's football franchise were on Capitol Hill on Thursday to discuss their experiences with the organization where, in the words of one ex-employee, sexual harassment and misconduct were an "unavoidable rite of passage.""

"Snyder released a statement following the roundtable's conclusion in response to the new allegations.

“I have acknowledged and apologized multiple times in the past for the misconduct which took place at the Team and the harm suffered by some of our valued employees. I apologize again today for this conduct, and fully support the people who have been victimized and have come forward to tell their stories. In response to learning about incidents like these in 2020, the Team, on its own, undertook to revamp its policies, procedures and personnel. Real change has been made and employees of the Team have confirmed the vast improvement in Team culture over the past 18 months."

The statement continued: "While past conduct at the Team was unacceptable, the allegations leveled against me personally in today’s roundtable – many of which are well over 13 years old – are outright lies. I unequivocally deny having participated in any such conduct, at any time and with respect to any person. Tanya and I will not be distracted by those with a contrary agenda from continuing with the positive personnel and cultural changes that have been made at the Team over the past 18 months, and those that we continue to make both on and off the field.""

It sounds like he's saying, "I've done good stuff recently, so don't talk about what I did 13 years ago."

It sure would help their case/believability if victims came forth sooner. I get why often times they don't. But in 13 years a lot of details change even as you tell your self the story over and over again, both from the victim's perspective and the attacker's. I also think this contributes to the victims unsuccessful cases in court.

It'll get settled, and settlements don't cause lasting change. Society looks at the victim like this was a money grab and the attacker uses the settlement as verification that what he did wasn't heinous.

    PFT's Summary:

"In a roundtable hearing before Congress on Thursday, former Washington employee Tiffani Johnston accused Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder of unwelcome physical contact and an unwanted advance during and after a business dinner. Snyder called the allegations “outright lies.”

According to the NFL, Johnston’s allegations were not made as part of the 10-month investigation conducted by attorney Beth Wilkinson.

“The NFL is reviewing and will consider Ms. Johnston’s allegations as we would any other new allegations regarding workplace misconduct at the Washington Commanders,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement issued after Thursday’s session. “We will determine any further action as appropriate.”

It’s unclear why Johnston didn’t cooperate with the investigation, given her willingness to testify publicly today. Regardless, the appropriate further action is simple, and clear. If Wilkinson truly hasn’t already investigated Johnston’s claims, Wilkinson should be re-engaged to do so now. And the league should not hide Wilkinson’s ultimate determination as to whether Johnston or Snyder are telling the truth.

Former Washington employee Jason Friedman corroborated Johnston’s claims. He can be interviewed, too. Along with anyone else who may have any relevant information to share. That’s the right and proper way to proceed. And it’s also right and proper to announce the findings, not bury them."

    Wait wait wait....

Dan Snyder, owner of The Washington Commanders, is hiring an independent investigative team, to investigate allegations made against his own team.

Am I the only one who finds this suspect?

He probably got a really good rate if he used the same independent investigation team the NFL is utilizing for it's hiring practices. Kind of like a 2-for-1 or a BOGO.

Hes announced this fifty times the last 3 years. The reason why he does this is because he gets full power to make the findings public or not.

That and he gains a level of separation between the accused and the investigation. If an owner says, "We didn't do anything wrong," nobody believes it. But if he pays someone to investigate, steers that investigation behind the scenes and then says, "The independent investigators didn't find anything wrong," then people are more likely to believe it.

Dan Snyder and his "apologies" immediately made me think about this:

My cousin has worked for several NFL teams and had a 1 year stint in Washington. All I can say is he left as quickly as possible because in his words, “it was a f’ing dysfunctional mess there.” I’m not surprised by any of these accusations.
