Our own Travis Wingfield sits down with Mike McDaniel. Actually gives me a bit of optimism…so long as Ross and Grier don’t get in the way
Insightful interview. McDaniel has a very logical approach towards football. It's hard to see how this guy will fail from a preparation and scheme standpoint. Big question however is personnel. No real questions on what type of players he looks for. Still, it's hard to see how someone like this is going to fail. He should also manage the personal relationship side of things well. As far as how he sounds, he sounds a little "slow" lol. But that's not as important as the content of his responses which I like. Good to see Travis get this far, interviewing the Dolphins HC. Travis does a very good job with prepared questions (better than a lot of others), but he doesn't do a good job of building on what the person says. It's like the interview is pre-structured and insightful follow-up questions aren't asked. For example, McDaniel talks about Tua and how he designs plays but no follow-up questions are asked on what kinds of plays he's designing for Tua. Anyway, overall informative interview.
Good coaches aren't 100% hardasses my man. They just know when to be serious vs when to be goofy. Andy Reid is actually a really good example of this. He absolutely can be a silly and goofy guy in many situations.
He’s got an unconventional style that is based on being down to earth and having a fresh way of communicating with players to Beth them to respect him and play hard for him..because that’s ultimately what a head coach has to achieve. Have to see how it plays out and sustains..
If you Google Brian Flores the only picture you will find of him smiling is at his introductory press conference. I'm glad we have a coach with some semblance of a personality after the past few stiffs.
