Bit of a bumpy moment in their ride together:

I've always said Murray acts like a disinterested little baby on the field.

The league is figuring out how to stop the gimmick and his time is almost up, so he's getting restless. I hope to see it just completely melt in disaster next season and end this nonsense with tiny QBs.

He strikes me as a guy who doesn't really enjoy playing the game and reportedly he has some maturity issues.

That said, there is no chance the Cardinals move him, not in the least because there really isn't anything to replace him with. Their best chance, by far, is to roll with Murray and hope DHop stays healthy and their secondary WRs develop more. I do wonder if they need a taller WR corps though. Green is tall but washed, Hopkins missed like half the season and their other targets are all little dudes.

    Thoughts on Drew Brees?

Brees is about three inches taller than Murray, and was himself on the extreme outside spectrum of QB size. More importantly, he didn't turn the QB position into something more like a punt returner clownshow. I can't stomach watching the Cardinals offense. I badly want it to fail and die and not come back.

I can see him going back to playing baseball. It looks like he doesn't enjoy football.

He's only 24. That's not a crazy idea. He was the 9th overall pick in the MLB draft.

Personally, I felt like the league caught up to the ultra-mobile QB this year. I think we're headed back towards an era of the pocket passer.

I think the days of the 10 rushes for 120 yards for a quarterback are indeed over. It doesn't work in the long run. Sure, you might make a deep run once in a while but it's just not sustainable.

A quarterback needs to pick and choose those moments to run for those 8 yards on 2nd and 10 and 3rd and 6. Something I hope McDaniel teaches to Tua because he has the athleticism to do it.

Supposedly he told Colt McCoy he was “done” near the end of the loss to the Rams. McCoy was apparently trying to convince him to go out and finish the game with his teammates.

If I was the Cardinals’ brass, I’d be concerned

One of the most underrated aspects of Mahomes' game imo. Dude is always looking to pass, but 4-5 times a game he will see a lane and take it 8+ yards. Also great at getting the last 1-2 yards with a reach or extension. Love it.

That said, I think writing off mobile QB's is way to premature, and also negates the existence of Josh Allen.

I know he's a big guy, but the way he runs it's only a matter of time he gets rolled up on. He can't lower his shoulder and take those hits forever.

If this is true, regardless if he went back out the field or not clearly demonstrates he doesn’t possess the strength of character to face and overcome adversity…definitely a trait you want in your offensive leader…

IF it turns out to be true.

Yeah he is young there. He needs to mature. Hoping he will and really need to figure out where he is at a crossroads!

Every time I see him without a helmet on, I think he looks like he's about 16 years old. Murray is certainly still a kid in many aspects and I think he has some growing to do over the next few years. I personally think he's going to switch to baseball this year or next.

I don't agree with this sentiment. The mobile quarterback adds variety to the way the game is played, and it's entertaining to watch. It takes such a specialized QB and offense to pull off well, that's its unlikely to take the game by storm. Lamar Jackson, Wilson, super fun to watch.

Sure, it's definitely fun to watch. But look what Miami did to Jackson when they schemed for him, or what Cinci did to the Bills and Chiefs. The league is catching up on how to play these types of quarterbacks. The league seems to go in cycles and I think we're on a downturn for the mobile QB. That doesn't mean it's going away though.

Ya… i think its definitely over for Lamar Jackson… the guy missed so many games this past season… and hes wanting a deal similar to Mahomes… good luck to Lamar… we will see what kind of star he is when he is not producing 70+ rushing yards a game.. is he gonna be able to stay healthy ?

Without the threat to run, I don't think Lamar Jackson is a starting NFL QB. He's just not accurate enough.

That’s the problem for quarterbacks like Jackson, Murray et al. When they first come into the scene, they’re that flash of lightening in a bottle but as quickly as the burst on the scene, they tend to fade as quickly.

Ive watched football for a NUMBER of years and in general, quarterbacks to run the ball quite often typically don’t have long careers. Elway is an exception but then again, you never really saw Elway breaking for a 30+ yard run consistently.

    McMahon was pulverized
    Young was pulverized
    Cunningham was pulverized
Vick, McNabb, Newton, Jackson all took/have taken beatings and the altering of their game to keep them healthy and on the field exposed them as not very good quarterbacks in the long term.

As long as Murray is able to continue his scrambles for big gains like he has, he’s going to be a threat, but his threat is being exposed and I just don’t think he has what is takes to be that traditional pocket quarterback.

Yeah, even though QBs are protected somewhat, defenses get jacked when an opportuity presents itself to make a QB pay for running. The Lamar Jackson's of the NFL will never enjoy the career-span of a Tom Brady. But they are fun to watch.

What do we think Kyler is asking for? $40? $45 million a year?

Yea, they may be fun to watch but once they break that traditional quarterback role and go for those big runs, they lose a lot of that protection afforded to them and like you said, defenses salivate at the opportunity to lay that quarterback out.

One of the best ways to contain quarterbacks like that are to force them to stay in the pocket. I remember a number of years ago when the Dolphins played the Falcons. The Dolphins defense forces Vick to stay in the pocket. Needless to say, it wasn’t a good night for Vick and the Falcons.

So... you're all hinting that Josh Allen will get injured this season on a scramble? That just as his big money is hitting the Bill's salary cap, he'll be starting to break down?

I can't tell you how bad that makes me feel. Not without seeming like a bad person or something.

No, Josh Allen is in the same devision as the Dolphins... where QBs are granted longevity and an enhanced skillset to ensure Dolphin fan misery is continuous.

I mean, the kid would make more from baseball, he wouldn't get knocked on his butt 100x a season, and he'd probably have a longer career. Sooner or later he's going to realize that baseball is safer/smarter/more profitable than being a QB1 in the NFL.

Then there's the fan perception that anything wrong on offense is automatically the QB's fault and you can see why he might be second-guessing the Cardinals.

Not necessarily true. The elite QBs make elite baseball player money. You are also making a big assumption that he would be a baseball star. By all accounts, he was very good, but lots of very good players go into the baseball minors and never really come out. Baseball also generally starts out with WAY more team control and small salaries than football, which can really eat into the longevity arguments. I'd also say football has better branding opportunity as well.

I mean....wow. I get why someone would say, "<Star player> makes xxx, so I should make at least xxx." But when you throw tantrums, stop communicating, and just expect your organization to go above and beyond to please you, there's a pretty good chance it's not going to work out. I guess Murray has extra leverage with baseball, but still...he needs to grow up and try being a man.
