If you combine all the hires and pick the best ones, this one still looks stronger

Definitely a trend here of quality coaches that specialize in offensive productivity, the run game and offensive line. Call me crazy, but I feel like Ross may be over-compensating for something all of a sudden. Crap coaching staff on offense for three seasons, then suddenly the new guy is allowed to hire anyone he wants.

Anyway, all this speaks to a much better offense in 2022. Next step, a very active free agency to build an instant contender. I can't help but wonder if we won't be in a QB sweepstakes or two as well...lots of big names seem unhappy.

The OL is the only reason why Miami might be a tough sell instead of a coveted destination for offensive players in free agency. If we had a better OL, I submit we'd be much more likely to move on from Tua because there'd be a much better chance that we'd be able to replace him with established QBs. I'm assuming our OL will be much improved in '22, so it'd behoove #1 to take full advantage of it.

When has a coach not been able to hire anyone he wants since Sparano?

I Flipping LOVE IT! Pass happy crappy. Teams that can control the game by running the ball, even when everyone knows they are running the ball win lots of football games. Running Backs and Linebackers are my favorite positions and still the heart and soul of football to me so having a team where those are the strengths instead of the struggles will be awesome when it happens. No if's, when.

RUN (fill in the blank) RUN!

It's easy to say this at this point and without much visibility but... all the bits and pieces I've seen and heard from these coaches indicate a continued change in the culture in Miami. To a large degree that already happened with Flores and his team but it doesn't take much to look back and see all the 'bully gate' stuff, then the coach who had drugs and prostitutes at work, and realise that the Dolphins had a dead culture, a rot, that had set in. The more the culture in Miami can change, the more hope there is for this team. Now, Ross and Grier, as high-level management can still have an impact here and we have to hope that they get out of their own way and let the new coaches set the tone.

This is all foundational stuff at an organisational level and changes like this, if the right changes, are the first essential step in transformation.

    Here's to hoping!

I look at it a bit differently. If we had a much better OL and an EFFECTIVE running game, Tua would actually be more productive as ALL of the pressure wouldn’t be on just HIM. Everyone knows I’m one of the ones consistently banging the drum for a balanced offense much like the Titans.

If our offense transcends into something like Tennessee’s, I truly think it would result in more points scored and more wins.

And if Tagovailoa ends up NOT being the long term answer for the Dolphins, if nothing else, you’ve just set up his successor for success.

Flores was told he didn't need a line coach or offensive coordinators, it would make more sense to promote from within. Most of the staff was inexperienced for their positions on offense.

I can appreciate your points. Lost in the discussion is the fact that sustaining just a couple of more drives per game would be huge. Even if we only added 6-10 points from drives that lasted 3-5 more plays, the cumulative effect of keeping our defense off the field and the opposing defense on the field would be huge. The reason why I'm never complaining about dinking and dunking is because if we do it to the effect of 70% completions, that impacts ToP and ultimately makes us a better team in the fourth quarter. So, take deep shots when they present themselves, but play smart and controlling offense in the meantime.

Yeah, that's exactly what I suspected. Typical Grier move. Alexander was let go because he was a Flores guy, but him and Flores were the ones who turned the defense around, not Boyer.

To be honest, Omar's name in that tweet slipped past me. His report about the defensive player wasting his time playing with Tua fell flat with me. We've never heard that level of rhetoric with teams that were eliminated by week 10. I'm not suggesting Omar made it up, just that he lost a lot of credibility with me and I'll take him with a grain of salt from here on out.

Mando stirs **** up to get national mentions. Omar just happens to have inside sources that tell him incendiary things after the season. If anything, I'd expect to hear some of this stuff in the midst of the 1-7 start, not after the 8-1 finish.

There were multiple reports during the season that Flores was the one who turned the defense around and he put Alexander in the booth to help do that. So no, they didn't just make it up now.

And the Tua is wasting my career comment is something a player would say after the season when they are no longer in the heat of battle and have had time to reflect. You're typically not going to hear a player talking like that during the season.

You and highly exhausted are just mad because Omar's reporting doesn't fit your pro Tua, pro Grier narrative.

Omar Kelly who said Boyer was calling the plays and essentially mocked people for believing otherwise and now says the opposite. He knows nothing.

Boyer calling the plays does not mean he turned the defense around. The two reports are not mutually exclusive.

If I'm pro-Tua, I'm pro-Dolphins since he's - you know - our quarterback. I've posted things that show his good and bad attributes, so apparently, I'm pro-objectivity as well. And you never read anything positive about Grier that I've posted. So I'd suggest your narrative is getting a little skewed regarding my narrative.

The point is Omar reported both things so which is it?

Its also the basis for Omar giving more credit for Flores being responsible. That Flores took over the playcalling.

He said they were lied to during the season (which sounds plausible with our ex head coach) and it came out after the season, that all sounds reasonable to me and Alexander got fired because Boyer felt threatened at least that is what Omar Kelly reports.

It's also likely that your 100% accepting an article by a known suspect journalist because omar's reporting fits your anti tua, anti grier narrative.

Maybe, but when you have two decades of dysfunction and loosing what else is there to write about? If things were dandy here, then he probably would have different stuff to write about...

Not to drag this off topic but this is a pet peeve of mine. A good journalist, a really good one, will find that there is plenty to write about, it's just not easy. A rumour here, an off-hand comment there, that's low-hanging fruit. Actually digging, finding good stories, providing quality, thoughtful writing about the Dolphins takes a lot of effort. And I get it to some extent. Sadly, things have descended to the point that it's a 24/7 news cycle and people are hungry for clicks. It's impossible to produce quality content every single day, so that encourages shallow click-bait. The idea that there's nothing to write about though.... I hate that. It's not true.
