Some GMs are adopting the philosophy of signing for need and drafting for depth. I'm pretty sure we'll see Grier doing that next month. I think Flo had heavy influence on the players we acquired, as I expect McDaniel to. Hopefully, between coach and GM, they can better assess the talent necessary (FA or draft) to obtain above-grade OL.
I fully expect McDaniels and his staff to lead the charge regarding offensive line. Their theory (smarter, smaller, quicker with movement) is pretty much the opposite of the Flores/Grier model (big road graders and people movers). Another potential reason we might see more FA or high round draft picks along the line is because our scouting staff isn't really as familar looking for the McDaniels zone blockers. I'd be curious to see how many new starters they feel they need. Does Hunt fit? Eichenberg? Do we have faith in Dieter to be healthy or fit the scheme? So many questions.
I did not know Chris Olave had this much speed. Love seeing it, not because I want him, but because the more stellar performances we see, the more likely it is somebody with high upside slides down to us at #29.
I'd take Olave if he slides, though it was already doubtful he would even before that 40. The guys I want to get taken are the QBs. Man, if like 4-5 of them go before our pick that is gold.
I wouldn't complain about any of several WRs. What I want is for there to be a run on any position so that we'll all see the obvious low-hanging fruit when we pick. Thanks to the immediate success of Chase and Waddle and Justin Jefferson before them, I can easily see several WRs moving into the first round. A run on QBs, RBs or CBs would benefit us. If we can catch a Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (who dropped to the 2nd round last year) at #29, snatch value over obvious need. If we can get a top-3 tackle or interior lineman (depending on free agency), I'll swoon.
The QB I would like them to take a shot on in this years draft is Cole Kelley from Southeastern Louisiana.
Unfortunately Chris Grier traded us out of the Tyler Linderbaum sweepstakes. Would love to see him in a fins uniform but doubt he’ll be there.
Didn't JOK drop last year due to his medicals? I remember everybody being super high on him and then he dropped quick. I want to say something to do with his blood maybe.
He had a heart problem that was diagnosed during physicals. It was apparently treated soon afterward and Cleveland's already stout D got another stud. There are players who fall due to unforeseen things every year (see: Laremy Tunsil, Jaylen Smith, Grady Jarrett, and many more). Sometimes, I think GMs are too focused to notice that a first round talent is worth grabbing late in the second, even if he has issues.
I wouldn't be shocked to see him available tbh. Center still isn't a position that goes high, just look at Creed last year. And no, I don't think he taught the NFL anything they will remember. The guy to watch though is BCs Zion Johnson. He's what they want in a player AND has the direct link to our new OL coach. Its almost too obvious a fit.
Gargantuan OT prospect Daniel Faalele heavier than any NFL player at 384 pounds https://www.nfl.com/news/gargantuan...ele-heavier-than-any-nfl-player-at-384-pounds
So, does this predict an early run on receivers or, since there's going to be depth, push a lot of good ones into day 2?
All I know is Linderbaum is a tough SOB and one of the best OL I’ve seen at Iowa. A very good HS wrestler he’s got a nastiness about him. Constantly see defenders on the ground or complaining that he blocks too hard until the whistle. I know C’s typically don’t go that high but I’d be surprised to see him still available when we pick.
I didn’t watch any ND state. Can’t comment on Watson. But Pickens would be perfect. Great receiver and he is a nasty blocker with an attitude. Would be great for what It sounds like this team wants to be. Seems like a top 5 of London, Wilson, Burks, Williams and Olave is a tier. Then a large next tier of guys like Watson, Bell, Metchie, Pickens, Dotson, Robinson and Pierce. How often do 12 receivers go top 50 ? Pickens, Bell or Dotson would be incredible at 50! Edit; Last 4 years there were 7, 11, 3 and 5 receivers chosen in top 50.
As much as I like Watson idk if we will pick him. It might be Zion Johnson but I bet someone in the AFC East will pick Watson.
Pickens is a serious head case from what I’ve heard, very immature, buyer beware is what was said from someone I respect.
What a pair of egotistical boneheads! This came to a head when they were criticizing a blogger who only had 1000 or so followers for starting a rumor. The one guy basically said you need a lot more than 1000 followers before you are "qualified" to start a rumor. What a moron! It's a rumor, anybody with 0 or more followers can start one. The trick is to STICK WITH THE FACTS! Maybe I should start a "Rumor Rating" scale. I'll call it the RR scale (my initials - haha) or better yet, the "PutIn" rumor scale based on everyone "Putting In" their opinion. The higher the rating, the less factual the rumor is, and that number is multiplied by the number of followers that blogger has to assure an appropriate overinflation of its value. The blogger with the highest rating at the end of the year will have his efforts sent to the CIA for analysis to see what they can make out of it. I foresee lawsuits, many lawsuits - LOL (that's what lawyers wear - Law Suits) - LOL
It's important to remember that speed alone does not make someone worth drafting. They do have to be able to run routes, catch footballs, show up to work, etc.
Not worth the #9 pick and no one who watched him in college besides his parents thought so. Another dumb decision in a long line of dumb decisions by Miami.
Yeah, but it's also important to consider that a limited number of players are invited to the combine, so those in attendance are already presumed to have significant upside. There's a bunch of WRs who were left to prepare for their pro days, so I'm assuming the ones in Indy have some good film and positive attributes. But you're of course correct and that's why they have many other tests and measurements beyond speed.
Who else were the Dolphins supposed to take that was available? Because I remember everybody and their mother calling Miami idiots for taking Ginn over Quinn.
