Tua is mobile. He just has to learn when to tuck it away and run. I think the injury might have hindered him in those decisions early in his career. He can take it to the next level if he can show defenses he can tuck in and take the 6-8 yard chunks.
Probably one of the most important things he needs to understand, he won the game last week of the season if you recall with his legs.. He should really remember how Fitzpatrick would do it.. let’s hope he remembers
Hit, I hear what you're saying. I do, but with how uncommon these long passes are...and Tua has demonstrated an ability to throw the ball for 50+ yards, accurately I might add, I'll pick accuracy over cannon 9 times out of 10. Anyone remember Jeff George? The man had a CANNON of an arm and yet, he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Tagovailoa at one point during last season had a completion percentage of near 80%. Translation? He completes throws and gives receivers opportunities to make plays. No different than what other great quarterbacks in the league do; take what defenses give you and give your players opportunities. And just for the sake of conversation, let's just say that Tagovailoa doesn't pan out...with a legitimate offensive line, running game and the immense receiving talent we now possess, whoever his successor is will be set up for success...with a TEAM already built.
Yes, if given a binary choice between arm strength and accuracy, I'd choose accuracy, but what we want is a QB that has both, like Marino did and most elite QBs do. Yes, the changes this off-season are promising, but we still don't know who our Franchise QB is going into Tua's 3rd year. If Tua doesn't pan out it's going to set us back for years. We will have a good enough team to not have a top 5 pick again and no real shot at drafting another franchise QB in the foreseeable future. So what are you going to do then? Tank again? It's been 23 years since Marino retired and we still have not found a franchise QB to replace him.
Grier took last year's 1st round pick and turned it into Waddle, Hill, and a 1st round pick in 2023. If Tua doesn't work out, Miami has plenty of ammunition to move up in the 2023 draft ( if they need to, but according to you they will have the top pick with Tua at QB) to get the best available QB.
I never thought I would hear someone use the team not being terrible as a reason to be upset but here we are
He doesn't want to build a team. He wants to get lucky and draft the next Hall of Fame quarterback, which happens a couple times every 20 years and jump right to the Super Bowl. He mentions Marino, Rodgers, Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert. They have two Super Bowls combined. One hasn't even made the playoffs yet. I get it we all want to win a Super Bowl. He wants the sole reason to be a quarterback for some reason. I've waited long enough I can be a little more patient and enjoy this building process, putting the right coaches and players together.
The team wasn't terrible with Tannehill either, and plenty of people were upset. Good enough to not have a top pick, but not good enough to contend for a super bowl. Don't act like we haven't been here before.
Guys, don’t be too surprised if we don’t start off well this season. You all have to remember that we have a rookie head coach, instituting a new offensive playbook. That means different plays, different blocking schemes, timings, positioning. There’s going to be a learning curve. If players hadn’t complained about OTAs and camps, come game day it wouldn’t be too much of an issue but with so little actual camp time anymore, it’s goi g to show the first month of the season. Now I hope that’s not the case but let’s be realistic with rookie head coaches and their first season records. So just keep that in mind before anyone is ready to crucify Tagovailoa the first month of the season.
If a true franchise QB is available in the 2023 draft, I don't think anybody is going to trade down and hand him to us. And I've never said Tua is terrible, ever since we drafted him I said he can be a good QB, just not elite, and is liable to get hurt again. He's just good enough to maybe get us into the playoffs, but not good enough to win it all.
Yeah their consistent run of mediocre is getting old but this is also why we should be glad they are giving it a go here especially doing while not mortgaging their future. Its the best possibly way this could have gone. They can't shut down the franchise down because they didn't take Herbert. They have to move forward in the best way possible.
Agreed. At the same time, it’s hard to trust your Gm when he whiffs on franchise QB decisions and entire drafts. I like most of the moves this offseason and im more hopeful heading into this season that previous ones. But I don't think this team is built for super bowl run.
I don't think he means Flo bad. Just a period of coughing and spluttering instead of laying waste to all before us from the get-go. That's how I understood it anyhow.
Well, I dont think Flo was bad. I think the offense was doomed from the get go with co-offensive coordinators. I was suspect of it from jump street but wanted to be optimistic. But there is going to be that learning curve that's going to hinder us from winning right out of the gate. Hopefully though we have enough talent on team to grasp MaDaniel's offensive scheme quickly enough so we're not on the losing end of too many games at the beginning of the season.
Why could Flores get a good OC? Seems like his reputation of being hard to work with kept the good from coming. McDaniel does not seem to have an issue getting good coaches.
I think the slow start last year was a combination of Tua getting up to NFL speed and timing, plus a lack of quality receivers and an embarrassing offensive line. I feel like everything they expected to be able to do failed due to protection and it just took a few months to figure out. However, the real problem was lack of talent and it's very hard to out-coach that. This season, I expect another learning curve but I don't think it will be that extreme. Protection should be instantly better and we know Tua will be throwing early and often on those little slants and digs. Some of those will bust wide open and I also think we'll see some success early on in the run game. But the failures running the ball also eats downs and requires a strategy of it's own, so who knows? I think we'll be more productive than last year week per week, but it's hard to tell how much better. A stud LT makes all the difference in the world though.
And it’s not as if Tua had problems finding Waddle. 104 receptions say otherwise. OK, so maybe all of those catches weren’t thrown by Tagovailoa, but the overwhelming majority of them were. 1000+ receiving yards prove that the Tua-Jaylen hook-up was pretty productive, too.
That's my opinion, too. New offense and more new pieces than any team in the league are going to require game action to work. I think we'll see signs of what's to come after TC reports and exhibition games. After the first OTAs, I'm hoping Tua can get the receivers together for a weekend to work on routes and timing.
On one hand, I understand how a lot of new pieces, new coaches and new system = slow start. On the other hand, our offenses have been SO BAD that I feel its only natural we go upward. I don't think we come out of the gate averaging 35+ a game, but we should still see success, scoring and explosion. That overall team speed has to translate regardless of scheme and familiarity. It would help if we didn't lead off against NE and Buff again though. Tired of them right off the bat.
I kind of feel that way too. When you fall down in the mud, the only thing to really do is either stay down there or stand up. I get the same feel from this situation.
3 solid WRs and a run game with a better OL? I'm okay with whomever we line up against in September. Let's go!!!
TBH I think their offense is trash and we should hold them to sub 20 both games. But, their defense is good and not who I would choose to begin the year against. Gimme some garbage like the Bears or Texans. The Bills are a different story. Strong on both sides of the ball, veteran team status now. They should jump out of the gate. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing them until like midseason. In general, if we can get 1-2 games in before we are facing elite defenses or making cross country trips, then I think we have a decent chance to start better than we did under Flores.
not directed at you but, Fear of your future because of your past is chicken **** imo This is a new staff
Deebo Samuel is 6’ 215 lbs, Tyreek Hill is 5’10 180 lbs. You can’t use Tyreek the same way or he’ll get broken in half.
Pretty sure they're talking about using him as more than just a receiver. Having Hill in the game with Waddle or LBJ should result in a wasted timeout in a few games. Put one in the backfield and the other in motion. But do not run Hill off guard or it'll invite disaster and a $30 million roster hole for a fast little guy on IR.
As an 80's kid it suits me just fine! Anyone know what the theme is from? Almost sounds like a cartoon intro for the Go-Bots or something.
First of all he's listed at 185 on every single website on the internet. Why lie about something stupid like that to try and fit your narrative? Hill is built like a tank and rarely takes direct contact.
That one against the Raiders, where he gives the safety a little shuffle and causes him to fall on the floor had me in stitches.
