Given that Miami isn’t much of a participant, combined with the fact that it’s not a draft that’s chock full of potential superstars (according to the “experts”), is everyone still going to watch/follow like it’s a normal year?

I may watch the first half of the first round, then check in via the phone for the rest.

Minimal interest, seeing what the other teams in the division do is the only reason to check in really. Even with Day Two, does anyone expect Miami to draft a day one starter? If they are needed, it's a huge gamble, so it's really about getting a player to develop for 2023 and beyond.

I personally do not care at all about the draft this year. I'll check and see who we add, but other than that I don't really care.

I won't be watching. The first round is always a late night event on this side of the pond. So I'm not going to be losing sleep for a non-Dolphins draft.
I've quite enjoyed ignoring most draft talk this year. :D

I normally only follow the first round live, and then check on the summaries for day 2 and 3.

This year zero interest in the draft, and I can’t even tell you what day it starts.

Only draft I’m worried about this yr are Armchair GM dynasty league rookie draft and club league draft. Other than that… When’s kickoff?

    Yeah, me too.

I usually watch the first few picks of Day One, especially if the Dolphins have one in there, but after that, it’s too late for me.

I will probably have the laptop on in the background on the Saturday to keep an eye on it.

I might have it on. It is meaningful football. But I won't be watching as closely.

No, thankfully I'll be giving it a miss. It's on at stupid o'clock over here so I'm more than happy to give it a swerve. Not bothered at all, just really looking forward to the start of the season.

Just pretend when pick 29 cones around Rodger Goodall takes the stage and announces that we took this dude out of west Alabama named Tyreke Hill..

What a bunch of lightweight fans you are (Kidding). I'll be sat here at stupid am in the morning wearing my jersey ready for whatever madness unfolds.

Being serious though, I was just thinking yesterday that our lack of participation in the first two rounds has dented my excitement for this years draft, although I suppose the excitement can come from waiting to see if Grier suddenly decides to lose his mind and trade into this year's festivities.

On that subject, is there any scenario where you think we would (or should) trade back up?
Maybe if Linderbaum was to slip into the second round?

I know the talent is oddly balanced in this year's draft but I'd be very surprised if Linderbaum slides to round 2. I know that his size isn't ideal for the position but we seem to get a centre drafted in the first round every year and there's no denying that Linderbaum is far and away the most talented at the position in this year's class.

I think the price would be too expensive for my liking for us to move into the position where Linderbaum is available. In this case, I think the opportunity cost is enough that I'd settle for someone like a Fortner if they're still there when we come to pick compared to what we'd have to give up to get into the Linderbaum sweepstakes.

Then there's the asking for disaster levels of plan where you sign someone high profile like a Tretter to play center for the year knowing that he's not going to be healthy enough to practice but you pray that his body holds up to play the season, but use the good head on his shoulder's to help try and train someone up like Lindstrom but honestly that plan has so many if's and but's in it that I think it's D.O.A.

Going back to your original question though, I don't think there's a scenario where I'd be happy giving up the sort of capital necessary to get up into day 1. Maybe there's a move to be made for us to get into round 2 but I can't see any of us liking it although I think there will be some players available at the end of day 1 that will have GMs reaching for their phones. Whether any moves happen, is of course yet to be seen.

Absolutely. Been a draft fan for ages, it's just a cool event.

I actually think the lack of superstar elite talent may lead to some weird stuff, which would be hilarious. Like, I cannot wait to roast Carolina for taking Kenny "The Glove" Pickett and his tiny hands at 6 because Matt Rhule wanted to recruit him once back in college lol. Or laugh at Detroit for taking a Safety at 2 or something.

It might also be somewhat fun/interesting to see what players are available at spots we might have picked, and compare them to the impact of Hill and/or Waddle.

Second round maybe, but not if it means giving up a 1 from next year. Those are completely off the table in anything imo. It would take someone like Linderbaum or Zion falling into the mid-2 area, which personally doesn't seem possible. There really aren't any other talents I think would be worth it, barring some kind of gas mask type issue.

I was watching the draft pretty regularly over the past several years but the ONE thing that’s annoyed me to no end, especially when “The Pick Is In” graphic comes on the screen is the continuous, nonstop talky talky talky talky…STFU already, let the commissioner come out and announce the pick. Quit holding it up because TV dictates it and you can’t shut up

As long as they are talking about the picks in the draft and how they play football, I don't care. That is what I want to see. I just hate when they have feel good stories or talk to the parents. I am a football nerd. I want to here people talk about football stuff. I don't want to see fans, service members, or people with cancer announce picks. I want to see people talk about football.

I wouldn’t even consider moving into the first from where they are this year; I only wondered if there was anyone predicted to go mid to late first that slipped into the second that would interest anyone enough to move up.

P.S. I can’t see any way Rhule is at Carolina beyond the end of this season, barring some miraculous events happening down there.

I think the era of signing a college coach with little NFL experience to be head coach is coming to an end. Too different in today's NFL.

Do you think they're targeting someone specific or waiting to see how the round plays out and are looking at a couple of positions?

I don't think so. It's a weak draft class, especially in the top rounds and they don't have the picks to play with. They can't give up next years picks,

They’ll either target at a Oline or Linebacker. Some linebackers may drop Bc of the skill positions.

    I agree.

After the acquisition of Tyreek, we already have a ready-made equivalent of a top-five first-rounder, and the other new offensive weapons mean that the front office can afford to hold on to all the picks we have in the early rounds in 2023.

Here’s how I see this season and next years draft. If McDaniel’s offense is indeed a genuine bonafide offense and Tagovailoa isn’t able to run it, this will be his last year in Miami. The Dolphins will use next year’s draft to roll the dice on yet another quarterback but the difference between recent past picks (Tannehill and Tagovailoa) whoever the next quarterback is will be coming with an offense already in place, needing only a quarterback as the final piece of the puzzle.

If Tagovailoa is able to run McDaniel’s offense, and the Dolphins make it to the playoffs and past the first round, look for the Dolphins to shore up any shortcomings that present itself during the season.

I think that this is the most obvious year to trade up since I have been a fan.

We currently have a 3, a 4, and two 7s on a pretty talented roster.

I just look at 3rd and 4th rounders as fringe starters/decent backups. My bar is so low for a 7th rounder that I consider it a success if they make the team.

Take a look at the level of talent that we have had in the second round in recent years:

    2021 - Holland, Liam
    2020 - Hunt, R. Davis
    2019 - No pick
    2018 - Gesicki

I know that we sorta have a love/hate relationship with the front office around here, but these are pretty solid picks.

I think that getting one more starter at this point in our franchise is far more important than having two fringe guys. If we are able to trade up and there is anyone at any position that we see as a starter, I think we package the picks and land him.

You’re looking at trading the 3 & 4 for a second rounder? I’d do that for the right player.

I’ll watch and bet a couple draft props to make it more interesting since the Dolphins don’t pick.

I could also see the Dolphins adding an additional pick during the draft at some point. Not a 1st, but possibly something higher than 102.
