I wish they'd stop with the 'Tua has no excuses' line. It's wrong. Tua hasn't made any excuses. The correct line is that the Dolphins have finally put talent around Tua to allow them to properly evaluate him.

Accuse fans of 'making excuses' if you like, but for Tua excuses have had nothing to do with it.

    Agreed. It is tiring.

I haven't been paying attention to Jax, but is the media with Lawrence talking about no excuses now he doesn't have Urban Myer as his coach?

    Hmmm...

Dolphins defensive players have told GM Chris Grier they can't believe the transformation on offense
Miami's new-look offense is apparently already standing out
    By Jordan Dajani

The Miami Dolphins are entering a new era in 2022, but it's also one that could bring immediate success. The front office made one of the offseason's most intriguing hires in head coach Mike McDaniel, and then completely revamped the offense -- from the offensive line to the running backs to the wide receiver room. However, this Dolphins team doesn't move forward unless quarterback Tua Tagovailoa does.

During a recent interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier was asked what has stood out to him about Tagovailoa as he prepares to enter his third NFL season. Grier spoke about how he's noticed more confidence and excitement from his quarterback. He also said that his offense has bought into coach McDaniel, and that the defense has noticed a difference in their counterparts during their short time together.

"Even the defensive guys about a week ago were saying they cannot believe the transformation on offense and how these guys are doing," Grier said.

While trading for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was an obvious headline, Miami also stole Ced Wilson away from the Dallas Cowboys. Adding two new weapons is nice for Tagovailoa, but a better reason he's set up for success in 2022 are because of the upgrades on the offensive line. Grier went out and signed new left guard Connor Williams, previously with the Cowboys, and then one of the top players in this free agent class in former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead. To cap it off, the Dolphins signed three new running backs in Chase Edmonds, Sony Michel and Raheem Mostert -- all of which have starting experience.

With all of the new players and the new scheme coach McDaniel will implement, the Dolphins will look very different in 2022. If Tagovailoa can take a step forward in his development, then this Miami squad will surprise people.

I'm wondering if McDaniel believes his guys will be better with a zone blocking scheme. Eichenberg was quoted as saying it was much easier and that he's close friends with a Niners lineman who told him he loves McDaniel and the offense. We'll learn more when pads go on and actual contact is taking place.

I wonder if the greatest advantage of this new coaching group is that it gives some of these guys that didn't do well under Flo's leadership another chance.

Some of the guys that were noticeably bad must have had practically no confidence by the end, if we're spotting that they're messing up then they certainly know that they are. The issue is then that sometimes the same old voices can start being a hinderance in getting you out of that type of funk rather than a help in which case everybody getting a clean slate is probably a breath of fresh air for several players that were choking on inadequacy before.

Players like Armstead also help because they're proven commodities. The players know that he can do his job and do it as well as anybody in the league and so if a guy like that wants to speak, you can only hope that the others are willing to listen.

I'm hoping our young guys can learn from the experience that the new additions bring with them. Armstead might bring as much with his preparation, routine, study habits, and nutritional choices as he brings with his play on the field. I'm hoping Ingram has a similarly positive influence on Phillips. And we already know that Waddle is paying close attention to Hill. These players don't have to throw their arms around the younger guys to mentor them, just show them the things that they can emulate to succeed.

Oof. That's not a good prediction to see, LOL. But he could be right since a new coach is a complete toss-up in terms of how the roster responds.

I saw on social media that he is predicting the Bears to go 11-6 so I'm not going to take these predictions seriously. Looks like it's all just statements to get people talking regardless of whether what is being said has any substance to it.

I used to hate predictions from the talking heads, but nowadays I use it more for getting a pulse on what outsiders think about our team. If he's pegging us at 5 wins, then he thinks we're last in the division and the Jets will have a better year...which is laughable. But I still like to hear their reasoning to see if there's any sense in their argument at all.

For me, I see an elite defense that (hopefully) will be elite once again this season. That alone should be good for 7 or 8 wins. And if this offense clicks for Tua since it's sounding very similar to what he ran in Alabama, then I really think the sky is the limit for this team. I still believe we'll be in the 11-12 win range and make a little noise in the playoffs.

That's freakin' awesome! I mean, come on, who cares which coach is working with which players...it's not like that changes anyone's game plan or anything. This is the media trying to make a story out of nothing and failing spectacularly.

Here's some insight though- Bill is old. Sometime soon, he's going to step back and eventually he'll retire. This sounds a little like the first part of that, letting others have a little more control than he would in the past. And hey, he's probably not thrilled about that, that's not the way he's previously coached. But that's part of the process for eventually not being in the building anymore. We all knew that day would come eventually.

What are we hoping for? That's obvious- for Bill to get pissed off and retire on the spot. Maybe that's what is starting to unfold up there, but it's way too early for the media to be speculating on it.

This is Belichick still salty about Brady winning in Tampa Bay. He wants minimal help to try and win. His ego took a shot two years ago.

They're the modern equivalent of radio sports hacks who would make outrageous statements to get idiots on the phone in the middle of the night. These new guys know that Dolphins fans have been warring with each other over the past year and to make statements downgrading our offseason and moves will generate clicks, comments, and tweets.

It doesn't even matter whether the feedback is 100% negative because their bosses only care that somebody is listening or watching and the response is proof that they're doing their job. Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless have built multi-decade careers by being idiots who pretend they know more than everybody else. Colin Cowherd and Jim Rome, too. Compared to them, Nick Wright is a pimple on the a** of media stupidity that is the size of an elephant.

Matt Patricia and Joe Judge doing the offensive heavy lifting? AKA the dude that ran the Lions into the ground and the guy that failed to a QB named Jones to be decent? Cool. You do you Bill.

He actually predicted us to finish ahead of the Jets though with the same record. Regardless, 5-12 would be incredible disaster and pretty much all the worst case scenarios coming to fruition: Tua fails to advance/regresses, Boyer's defense takes a huge step back without Flores' influence, McDaniels is incompetent, the OL barely improves and Armstead is hurt the majority of the season, Waddle fails to develop and Hill is hurt or ineffective ...

It's just hard to see us being significantly worse than last year. It really feels like a guy trying to pile on the anti-Tua train to get clicks and comments.

This is entirely possible but if it does come to fruition, all of the blame will be pointed at the wrong person…Tagovailoa.

As I said in another thread, McDaniel has never called a game before. He is a rookie head coach and rookie head coaches tend not to fair very well their first season. Sure there are the onesies or twosies that do but typically, they don’t.

I just hope that if the Dolphins don’t fair well this season, when we’re all screaming, “what in the hell was that play called?” that we’re all rational enough to point the blame at the right person and not the one under center.

Now, I really don’t think though that’s going to happen. From what I’ve seen thus far, McDaniel seems to be a person that really knows how to think outside the box. Regardless of the team’s end season record, I think we’re all going to be happy with the overall result.

It's always a blame game when things go wrong. A coach blames his roster. A GM blames his coach. An owner blames everybody. Usually, it's plenty of blame to go around and more than one person can fall short.

My hope for McDaniel is that he calls good plays and makes appropriate and impactful adjustments mid-game. My hope for Tua is that he leads his team and throws the ball as well in games as he does in practice. My hope for Grier is that he keeps his eye on how the team is playing and that he reacts quickly to either bring help or remove distractions. And my hope for Ross is that he stays out of the way.

I'm encouraged by what's happening this offseason. I went into last season believing things were looking up, but there seems to be a different energy. If McDaniel can get off to the start that Shanahan, LaFleur, and McVay did with their teams, it's going to be a good season.

if we go 5-12, some of that is gonna be cause of tua as well. Less the wheels fall off the defense.

Until Miami wins the division and/or makes it at least past the first round of the playoffs, the talking heads are going to downplay their chances (since they usually shoot themselves in the foot). If you want respect, win.

In the plus column, most rookie coaches are taking over bad teams with little talent. Look at Robert Salah with the Jests, Daboll and the Giants, Dan Campbell in Detroit and ofc Flores here a few years ago. Our current team, however, has a very solid talent base to work with. QB/Coaching aside, we are far closer to Buffalo on paper than New England (and especially the bum Jests). We can expect some rookie moments from our rookie coach, but unless he is totally out of his depth he should be able to have a decent first year. Tua is the big wildcard - if he can take a step and elevate his game, then we can and should challenge for and make the playoffs. If he fails to advance and/or regresses, then we are in trouble.

Yeah, I never get bothered by disrespect from talking heads. It's like players who get mad when opponents preen and act foolish after scoring. The best way to shut them up is to keep them out of the end zone. And by the same token, the best way to silence fans (and fans of opposing teams) is to prove them wrong.

I don't have to like what they're saying, but I can't say they're wrong for saying it.

Part of it, too, is the sports media’s anti - Fin bias, going back (at least) to the Chris Berman days at ESPN. Maybe it’s the champagne toast when the last undefeated team falls, or the not-even-subtle worship of Brady/Belicheck/NE, but the Dolphins always seem to be the recipients of the backhanded compliments or outright slights and put downs.

It’s time to shut all these nitwits up and kick some ***.
