forget everything i said. terrible pitching performance from pelfrey, handed a 7-1 lead and left 7-5 after only 5 innings. Then everyones favorite reliever comes in, and of course a 2 run homer let up by Heilman. I swear to god he better not be on our playoff roster. 14 pitchers available and we put in our worst one.

Angry right now watching our bats shut down like they usually do after they get a big lead early. I can only hope delgado bails us out again........

And as soon as you say something like Dukes kills one, they bring in Heilturd who of course does the only thing he knows how to do; give up a 2 run homer to tie the game.

Interesting decision with Heilman this offseason. He cant pitch in the pen because hes a lock for giving up a homer with runners on. The amount of homers he gives up you cant make him a starter. Indeed, trade him for whatever I can get.

By the interesting thought from SI's John Heyman: Sign Derek Lowe as a closer. He wants to come back east, has closer experience, and big game experience. Not to mention hes a sinker baller who is hard to elevate...hear that Mr Howard, Mr Jacobs, Mr Jones?

Isringhausen, Fuentes, and Wheeler are the ones Id consider.

Paraphrasing for those who didn't hear:

    On the Dukes incident:

Originally I thought it went behind him. But I cant see anything, I only think I can.

When I went out there I asked Schneider where it was and he said it was almost a strike. I said then what are we doing out here. I might get beat up.

Now I thought Jerry was a gangsta but with Dukes the odds are he is really packing!

regardless of what you guys do in this series we will benefit from it. We should win 2 out of 3 in atlanta, so even if you guys sweep we still have first and we would have the wild card as a fall back. If the brewers knock you guys around then we gain more games in the division. Works out perferct for us...

The Astros and Cardinals are also right there for the wild card. I think realistically the Phillies have to do no worse than winning 3 out of 4 from Milwaukee if they are going to have any chance. OR the Phillies have to finish 12-4 and have the Mets go 9-7 or worse. Not looking good.....but we were 6.5 back with 16 to go last year. :shifty:

You have every right to feel that way because you proved last year it could be done. With that said..that was a once in a lifetime collapse..if you are counting on that...things are getting tight:shifty:

That matters more to the phillies wc hopes then the mets.

Only thing I care about is not playing the stros. They clearly have NYM's number this year. Everything that can go wrong against them has for us. I think NYM lost 6 or 7 games in July. 5 of them were to Houston. For whatever reason they just play us tough. :tantrum:

I know teams in the same division usually don't meet in the playoffs, at least not in the first round, so Milwaukee or Houston could be on the schedule for the Mets if the Mets win the NL East. Each game is kind of like a playoff game now for about 4-5 teams. Some teams just play great against certain teams. If the Phils can win three more against the Brewers we are in good shape....I would be happy with three out of four. Pujols and the Cards got beat by the Cubs. I think you got some games left with the Cubs Boik...should be a good battle. :shifty:

    Interesting article about Delgado's contract.....
a little incentive to play out of his shoes in the playoffs as well.

ESPN - Delgado's contract includes escalator clause worth $4 million - MLB

Tough loss in the first one, but just like all season long, they rebound after the tough loss and put up a great performance. Niese looked very good last night, going 8 scoreless. 3 games up in the loss column, lets win today and hope the brewers can win at least one against the phills...

Just gonna have to do it with offense and SP. Starters go 9. Worry about next year, next year. Cause the pen cant be counted on for anything except to crap out.

We are making the post season this year and the magic number is 17.

This bullpen is making me sick. Parnell should have gotten a chance way before yesterday.

I don't have a good feeling about this.

boik i love your optimism. but, do we have the arms on the starters to pitch 9 every night? if not, then were done.

    2 @ pesky nats.
    3 @ always tricky braves
    4 w/ cubbies
    3 w/ marlins

i dont think this ends well.

ps. to roman... the dolphins suck, the sun devils lose on a blocked fg to unlv, and your phils are gonna miss the playoffs (i really hope so). sports could get pretty bad... join the club.

This is great. Our football team blows. Mets are on the cusp of blowing another lead. Their bats look awful the past 2 games. Can we please get something going here? I was so confident 2 weeks ago, even last week. Now all I am hoping for is some wins. Wasted a good pitching outing out of pelfrey. We cannot get shut out by the Nationals, just can't. We better beat up on this kid martis tonight...

I figure one of my teams has to have the sun shining on them. It can't get much worse. I felt like puking when UNLV beat us. I could understand losing to USC but not to the Running Rebels. I am also 0-3 in my fantasy football league (we had a doubleheader last week) despite the fact that I have LT as my main RB, Anquan Boldin at WR, Brees at QB.....I am in a really tough division.

I really think the Phillies and the Mets will both make the playoffs....the Brewers, Astros, and Cards are done. I would love to see the Phils-Dodgers in one playoff and Cubs-Mets in another, and then the Phils-Mets for the NLCS. Ryan Howard has been playing like the MVP he was a couple years ago. We got Happ going tonigh.....he is much better than Kendrick. Should be an interesting last couple weeks. We may even beat the Patriots. I am glad you have 4 more against the Cubs. :shifty:

yeah, asu needed to win that game. now its pretty much a lock they will finish with 3-4 losses (unlv, uga, usc, maybe oregon or u of a). same ol asu i guess.:pity:

hey, i am all for the mets and phillies playing in the nlcs. i am not holding my breath though. if the phillies make it, i wouldnt be shocked to see a phillie win the mvp for the 3rd year in a row - ryan howard is playing sick right now (there is still time for him to cool off though  ).

8-5 in the 7th... dont blow it bullpen.

Oh I have no doubt Lou will play his starters...maybe he rests a guy like sori who gets injured a bit or a guy like aramis ramirez who plays just about every inning of every game.

Man does Heilturd suck gives up a double, a single...2 batters no outs and even gets booed on the road.

It just blows my mind that we do not have one guy in the bullpen that can't pitch a scoreless inning.

Parnell looked good the other day, I would give him another chance.

Maine is throwing and wants to come back and pitch from the bullpen, but he said he feels the Mets don't want him to and he wonders why he is going through all the work to get back if that's the case.
