I’ve never really followed training camp as closely as some but I do wonder…do veterans ever report for training camp for rookies?

I ask only with the Dolphins completely revamped team, including the head coach if there would be any inspiration for more field time prior to the season…and more opportunity for the vets to help out the rookies?

    Just curious

I am happy that camp is finally here - that means the season is getting closer!

I have vowed, however, to not get caught up in tales of “training camp glory” - every year, it seems, we hear reports of individual players doing remarkable things, units looking better than ever, coaches inspiring untold levels of commitment, etc.

As a long suffering fan (as most of you are), I want very much to believe, but no longer can, until they show it on the field , in games that count.

With that said, let’s kick off camp with a “Fins Up!” and let’s hope Coach McDaniel leads this team into a new era.

Rookie? What's that? We drafted Tyreek Hill this year and a prospect QB in the 7th. I guess they can hang out together and play catch, LOL.

I know we have UFDA's, but this has to be the least exciting rookie minicamp in a long time.

They used to do that often. But with the new CBA, I don't think they are able to do it. Teams get negative repercussions if vets show up outside of designated times. Shame because it probably limits the opportunities of guys who will get fewer reps when everyone is there.

Just remember the various names of players who dominated training camp only to disappear during the season.

Whoever they say, "He's going to have a breakout year, he looks like a guaranteed future HOFer out there, etc..." They say that about someone every year in training camp and most of the time, that person ends up not even starting (Wilson was last year's training camp hero).

It's fun to get excited about training camp and all, but he's saying for us to keep our expectations in check.

Yes, they generally are wide receivers. Kalen Ballage is another one. He was looking great in camp. Caught everything. The season started and he got stone hands.

To go older, Charles Jordan, Brian Manning, Robert Baker, Roberto Wallace, That defensive end that got cut and became a Brown who I can't remember his name.

Miami Dolphins training camp preview: What's at stake for Tua Tagovailoa?

    10:00 PM UTC
    Marcel Louis-JacquesESPN

MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins open 2022 training camp on Tuesday at the Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens. Here's a closer look at a few storylines:

Who is the player with the most to prove? quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

The narrative surrounding him following the Dolphins' flurry of offseason additions is that 2022 is a make-or-break season for the third-year quarterback. That's not entirely true; Miami's decision-makers aren't expecting the type of leap Buffalo's Josh Allen made in his third season, when he finished second in league MVP voting, but Tagovailoa still needs to prove he is a viable long-term starter before the Dolphins decide whether to exercise his fifth-year option by May 2023.

With the best supporting cast he's had in the NFL, there is reason to believe he can succeed under first-year coach Mike McDaniel. But if Tagovailoa is mediocre this season, the Dolphins have the resources to move up for a quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft if needed. Miami owns five picks in the first three rounds, and made it a point to keep them during trade discussions this offseason.Tua Tagovailoa has thrown 27 TD passes and 15 interceptions in 23 NFL games. Who is the most impactful offseason addition? left tackle Terron Armstead

There are a few candidates here, starting with receiver Tyreek Hill and McDaniel. But the biggest offseason addition Miami made was signing Armstead.

While he doesn't single-handedly solve the Dolphins' pass-blocking issues from a season ago -- 32nd in pass block win rate according to NFL Next Gen Stats -- he does immediately improve the left side of the offensive line and adds a Pro Bowl-caliber player to a position group that was desperate for veteran leadership. His tutelage will be invaluable throughout the summer and season, and Miami's offensive success hinges on the play of its offensive line.

What is the fiercest fantasy-relevant battle? running back

Miami has four running backs who could produce RB2 numbers if they were the featured back. Unfortunately there's only one ball, so Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Sony Michel and Myles Gaskin will have to compete for touches in what might be the most crowded backfield in the NFL.

While this backfield could turn into a committee, the lead runner in McDaniel's San Francisco offenses flirted with RB1 fantasy production. Edmonds, in particular, is enticing because of his versatility as a runner and receiver.

Camp prediction: Left tackle Austin Jackson will close training camp as a starter. I know -- how bold is it to predict a two-year starter and former first-round pick will start once again? But Jackson struggled enough at left tackle last season that the Dolphins moved him to guard in Week 5. Many fans felt like the team should move on from Jackson but this new coaching staff feels like he has untapped potential. The third-year pro will have to battle with Larnel Coleman, Liam Eichenberg and Michael Deiter for two open jobs on the offensive line, but he will flash that potential in a major way this summer.

Kyle Crabbs on Joe Rose with some good thoughts on various players/position battles but right at the end he was asked whether Tyreek's over-the-top praise of Tua is only going to add more pressure to the QB. His answer was a question - do you really think that Tyreek's praise is going to have that effect for a QB who has just spent 12 months dealing with talk that he could be replaced any day by Deshaun Watson?

Good point and good reminder of the fact that, unseen to us, the Miami Dolphins of the last 2-3 years was a mess at the leadership level (again). This team has been a major dysfunctional mess for years. If this year McDaniel only manages to clear that up and build unity on this team between coaches and players it'll be a success. Here's to hoping for a new page in Dolphins history.

The Draft Network have a piece today on 2022 training camp battles for all 32 teams.

For Miami the highlighted battle is:

    "Miami Dolphins
    The job: Starting inside linebacker

    The Rookie: LB Channing Tindall

    The Veteran: LB Elandon Roberts

Tindall’s arrival certainly gives the Dolphins more versatility on the second level of their defense. Roberts was a successful transplant from the New England Patriots as a free agent, following former head coach Brian Flores to South Florida for a crack at serving as a starting linebacker. 26 starts and 144 tackles later, Roberts has hit a glass ceiling on his skill set and a starting role—hence why Miami drafted Tindall with their first draft choice of 2022.

But Roberts has played six NFL seasons in the Dolphins’ system versus Tindall’s role as a depth player for the majority of his career at Georgia. Is Tindall ready to claim that role and start full-time?

Tindall’s blitz ability, passing down skills, and range will have a role rotationally at a minimum but I would consider it an upset for Tindall to claim the starting role straight out of camp. I think the separation between his own inexperience and fundamental improvements versus Roberts’ mastery of the system and role as an emotional leader is too great to overcome in the summer. By mid-season? That might be a different story. But look for Roberts to stave off the charge from a much more talented athlete initially. "

I love that the team is back. But, a few random comments: I can't wait for training camp to start, but then a day or two into it I kinda get bored with it. I can't wait for the first preseason game, but then when it comes I get bored a quarter into it.

The return of football even if it's only training camp has me fired up. Time to order a new Jersey for the year (My Landry and Marino ones have both seen better days at this point) and I'm thinking it'll be Christian Wilkins this time around. Outside of jerseys though, has anybody ordered any other team apparel and is it good enough quality considering it isn't the cheapest?
