The Dolphins revamped their wide receiving corps this offseason and it appears their moves seem to have left one member of the corps feeling like he’s without a seat at the end of a game of musical chairs.

Preston Williams has spent the last three years in Miami and he’s picked up 56 catches for 787 yards and seven touchdowns while dealing with injuries that have limited him to 24 games. The Dolphins have picked up Tyreek Hill, Cedrick Wilson, Trent Sherfield, Mohamed Sanu, and fourth-rounder Erik Ezukanma to go with 2021 first-rounder Jaylen Waddle and Williams, who took to Twitter with an apparent plea for more of a chance to make an impact.

    “Just want opportunity,” Williams wrote.

If the Dolphins feel certain that Williams won’t be earning that opportunity in their offense, they may be able to get something for him from a needier team before the summer is over.

Somebody needs to tell Williams everyone gets the same opportunity. The question is though, what will you do with it?

He’s had his opportunity. I don’t blame players for getting injured. Football is a violent sport but at the end of the day, are you on the bench more than you are on the field?

I really do not see moving him as a viable option. If you are a team in need of a WR, would you really trade for Preston Williams? You could give up compensation to get him or literally just sign Will Fuller, Cole Beasley, Emmanuel Sanders, or DeSean Jackson off the the street.

He signed a 1 year/ $1.29 mil contract. Contracts essentially tell you what teams think of you. The fact that the Dolphins nor any other team was willing to offer up a multi-year contract screams that he is a year-to-year guy.

Trade him to Dallas for a 2024 3rd rounder. They need a WR to replace James Washington.

Williams is still on his rookie contract and he's good enough to earn a roster spot. So for us, this is a non-story. Either he picks it up and plays to his potential, or he doesn't and we part ways next year. I'd love to see the kid shine but I honestly don't know how well he fits this offense. He should at least take Parker's role of 50/50 jump balls but again, I'm not sure how often we'll go there.

The injuries have been his biggest opponent. The talent has always been there. Against the Jets....Had a hell of a game...Two Tds in that one...Turns around and tears an ACL. That's been the story for this kid and he can't shake it. He makes Devante Parker look like an ironman.

    Drying is the new crying.

I'd love to see Preston step up, stay healthy, and make us forget completely about Parker this year. Odds say he just misses the 53 man roster this year.

I mean I kinda feel he is a less talented version of Parker and just as injury prone. I’d keep him for depth and situational plays but if he becomes a complainer jettison his *** before he messes up the new team chemistry

There is no room for sentiment in top-level sports.

If Preston isn’t good enough to claim a roster spot, he will be cut. It’s as simple as that.

I had no real interest in bringing him back to begin with, so I have no real interest in keeping him either. He's done nothing to warrant a spot on the roster aside from being the perennially fan overrated WR of the year a year or two ago.

Exactly. Plus, it sounds like both rookie WRs are outshining him in camp. I doubt he’d bring back much in a trade, but it wouldn’t hurt to try.

I was glad he came back, but the 2 rookies seem to be having really nice camps so far.

Williams intrigued me his rookie season in Miami. He looked like he had the potential to be a great receiver and he has had moments, but they were few and far in between…not to mention the frequency of injuries.

With 13 WRs on the roster right now, I personally would see if he could be shopped for a draft pick. I’m sure there are a number of teams out there that could use another receiver.

Preston Williams and Lyn Bowden are apparently on the trade block.

Someone should tell Preston Williams that his best ability is availability which we all know is something he's been lacking with his injuries. Even when he has played he hasn't been all that spectacular. Some nice plays, some easy drops. He hasn't exactly done much with his opportunities thus far but I think there is still some potential there but right now I think they've just made to many additions and improvements over him at this point. I'd be surprised if he makes the team.

There will be very few trades because teams know that rosters are going to be flushed at the end of the month. Other than player-for-player trades, it makes little sense for anybody to trade right now. Personally, I wouldn't even trade a 7th rounder for anything other than a certain starter. But if the call comes, get what you can for anybody you think is on the bubble.

Dolphins have had trade talks about WRs Preston Williams, Lynn Bowden Jr., per report
Both wideouts could be suiting up elsewhere in 2022
    By Shanna McCarriston

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Preston Williams has made it known he wants his role on the team to change, and his request may turn into a new team for the 25-year-old. According to Sports Illustrated, the Dolphins have spoken with other teams about a trade that would include Williams.

The undrafted player has been with the team for three years, but is currently unhappy with his playing time.

"I just feel like I'm not getting the opportunities that I deserve, simply scripted-wise, not being on the field-wise," Williams told the media last week (via Dolphins Wire). "[I want] opportunities to show that I can beat my man."

Williams said he had a conversion about this topic with new head coach Mike McDaniel during OTAs.

"The only specific thing I asked him was 'I just want my opportunity,'" Williams recounted. "[McDaniel] said, 'You'll get your opportunity.' I just want him to make him a man of his word, that's all."

Williams played in eight games and started three last season, the least amount of games he had started in his three-year career. In three seasons, he has recorded 56 receptions for 787 yards and seven touchdowns. He had zero touchdowns last year.

The Dolphins have made moves this offseason as far as their offense is concerned, most notably adding star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The team is not short on wideouts, with Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Trent Sherfield, Cedrick Wilson, Mohamed Sanu and rookie Erik Ezukanma all hoping to have major roles on the offense.

With Williams not happy and the team with other go-to guys, it seems as if the team is shopping Williams to see what value he has that could work in Miami's favor.

Wide receiver Lynn Bowden Jr. has also been a part of trade talks, per Sports Illustrated.

Bowden began his career with the Raiders, who selected him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He did not spend much time with Raider nation, however, as he was traded to Miami before his rookie year even began.

Bowden did not play last year because he was on injured reserve. He had 28 receptions for 211 yards in 2020.

As I said earlier prior to this story breaking, with 13 WRs on the roster and Williams’ struggles to stay on the field, he needs to be shopped for potential trade offers. We’re going to carry 5, maybe 6 WRs at most. Not all 13 are going to make the team and you have to make the most of every opportunity you do have.

Perhaps instead of going to social media to voice his dissatisfaction, he should have gone to game film…or go to the gym…or the training facility…or a number of other things to demonstrate his determination to be that impact player he claims he wants to be.

In a game of MEN, there’s no room for immature boys.

When you question if the coach is a “man of his word”, your days are numbered. There’s no way he’s on the final 53.

I wonder who is on the bubble at other teams that we might have an interest in trying to flip either guy for.

I would guess a young LB, OL, or DE. We're pretty much set at other positions and actually have depth.
