So, they found a way to make sure Jackson didn't give up a bunch of sacks and pressures?

Miami beat an average Pats team, but they also now know what really needs work and can try to adjust.

Yeah I'm definitely not going to say Tua was bad or disappointing at all today. He's got his detractors on here and that's fine. I think the one agreement that was made was about his rating needing to be over a certain number for him to be a justifiable starter. If we're looking at the numbers from just today...He met every requirement in my opinion. We also won the game. Tua always plays a decent game when the defense makes plays and the other team isn't scoring on us at will. That matchup was a favorable one for him most definitely today. Next week? I can see that game being a defensive chess match once again similar to how it went last year. In week three against the Bill, he's going to get the real test. That game will be huge for him once again. He's yet to even have a good game against them. The thing is, Buffalo is going to beat everyone's *** this year. If they end up beating us...That's fine, but if we lose that game because Tua sucks it's going to be extremely deflating and ****'ll get bad in here.

I thought Tua was off today, but not terrible. Just off. Hill is the truth though. Next two are Baltimore and Buffalo. Trial by fire for the new O.

104 passer rating and beats the break off mac jokes and the reaction here is he was garbage all day. Missed throws. Made some plays. Won comfortably behind a garbage OL and first game with new system.

I never expected him to be any better than last season. But I think he's good enough to get us to the playoffs with the weapons around him and an imaginative mind at the offensive coordinator.

    My thoughts.
    The Good.
    1) The TD to waddle was special. Lots of QBs can make the throw, but for most QBs, Josh Allen included, it would have been a 12 yard catch. The difference was hitting Waddle so completely in stride he didn’t lose any speed.
    2) Tua took his layups. Apart from a couple of mis reads in the second half he made every throw he’s supposed to
    3) He showed superior escapability to avoid taking sacks.
    4) He had a good statistical game against the #2 scoring defense from last year.
    The Bad
    1) A couple of mis reads in the second half. But lets not forget it was against a Bill Belichek/New England D, so they weren’t making it easy for him.
    2) The pass blocking forced him into making too many rushed attempts.
    The Ugly
    1) The run blocking was so bad it forced us to be one dimensional in the 4th quarter when we needed first downs to eat up the clock.
    2) Tua showed that his game/skills/talents aren’t suited to running a one dimensional offense. If an opposing team forces us into a “must pass” situation I’m not feeling great about Tua being the man to carry the team.

I think he turns the ball over too much to be a game manager. He got lucky that the Patriots are terrible because he tried as best he could to help them get back into the game in the second half.

Not sure. The offense still looks real bad despite all the insane weapons. His football IQ is too low to have so many flaws physically. Like he needs to perfect at everything else, but he's not. It's not a coaching thing anymore which was the excuse. Too many coaches. He's just football dumb (super low Wonderlic score) and panics like a deer in the headlights under pressure. Tired of seeing the same dumb mistakes from a year 3 QB drafted top 5 that was supposed to be polished because he sure AF wasn't drafted high because of his physical gifts.

People love to crap on Flores for not believing in Tua, but it's not like he just had a thing where he hated Hawaiians. He didn't believe in Tua because he knew his limitations. He saw him every day. The players that didn't vote him as captain saw him every day. They knew Tua limited the team. Now McDaniels is stuck in the same situation because Grier wants to prove it was a good pick and the Watson/Brady deals fell through. The insanity needs to end. Try anyone else. Skylar me.

That last drive was the best and most hopeful thing I've seen in a while. 5 minutes left in the game, queue a 10 play 52 yard drive that ends in kneel downs at the NE 10. That counts as much as or more than points. If they were able to do that last year the team wins 2 or 3 more games. I think that perspective has been lost if anyone says Tua was either great or crap.

You mean the one that ended with Tua rolling to his throwing side and bouncing a ball in front of Sherfield's feet at the goal line?

The one that ended with Tua taking two knees to end the game. The one where Tua converted a 3rd and 9. You do understand that niether the game, or the drive ends with an incomplete pass on 2nd down with over a minute left right? You just couldn't figure out how to reference an incomplete pass that had no impact on anything other than Tuas QBR in a way that didn’t show just that, right?

Let's look at the play in question. 2nd and 2 with a minute or so left. I formation, 1 wr who motions in tight. QB takes the snap, everyone including WR sells run, play action, and only the WR leaks out. Looking for the D to bite on the action and attack the HB setting up an easy 1st for the QB on ground, or if the WR gets open an easy pass. Only, it's the Patriots and they stay disciplined. Both safties stay over top the WR and a DB shows underneath coverage stopping the quick pass, but comes up to attack the QB. Tua decides to pass once underneath coverage attacks him. This is late because of how the DB plays it, and he short hops the ball. Throwing short was fine, only throw that short. Amazing catch or an incompletion. Don't put the ball on the WR in those circumstances. Two safties were right there and they don't need points. Different if not killing the clock. Better decision IMO would have been getting what he could and sliding. But, that is nit picking honestly. Fine play call that didn't work becuase Belicheat is a good D coach. QB kept his throw safe. Next play Dolphins pick up the first running, but take the penalty, and victory formation.

Tua had some bonehead plays and missed throws, and you try to call out that play. I expect better from a taco.

I agree. Tua wasn't perfect by any means, but he had a good day with zero picks. Personally, I'm not going to play shoulda, woulda, coulda this season because it's not fair to anyone. We won the game. Tua led the offense. His mistakes didn't cost us. That's good enough for me for now.

I think I said this at the end of last year in this thread and I'll say it again after week 1. Tua is certainly not the problem, but he's not yet fully shown he's part of the solution for our offensive woes either.

Yesterday was a step in the right direction IMO. First game, new offense, new surrounding cast. First half he looked good, few missed throws and missed opportunities. Second half though when NE seemed to get more pressure on him, and pressure was mounting on the offense to move the ball and score I felt we saw the same things from Tua that we saw last year that give me concerns. Bad decisions and shaky ball security when under pressure. There's a few he should have thrown away or taken a sack but didnt. I commend him for trying to get rid of the ball in some of those instances, but he was awfully close to a grounding call once that BB lobbied the officials hard for, and a couple others were close to being ruled fumbles instead of incomplete passes. The OL certainly didn't help in these instances and at the end of the day he got away with it which is good, but you can't sustain those results in those situations.

I'm confident another few weeks in this system and with this new cast of WR's around him he will improve as well the rest of the offense. At least it should anyways! He's got to get better under pressure though, got to use those legs earlier as well and remember that he can be a dual threat. MAybe not in the way Lamar Jackson can be, but he can run... use those legs. There was that one third down late yesterday where he evaded pressure, rolled out likely could have ran for the first down but instead threw a high off target pass to Sherfield that he couldn't bring down. Better throw and it's a first, run though and it's likely a first if I remember that play correctly also. Just be aware that you can use your legs and run, keep that defense honest.

I want to also take a second here to acknowledge how beautiful that throw was to Waddle on the 4th and 7. Spot on. Can't do it any better than that.

All in all though, still alot to clean up. Felt like watching the same QB as last year, but actually seeing results from the offense due to having some dynamic playmakers now around him which was badly needed. If we can get a run game going too that's going to help because we were awfully one dimensional yesterday which makes it hard for any QB to succeed.

I trust McDaniel at this point to clean up the issues we saw yesterday with missed opportunities, missed throws, missed blocking assignments and that should hopefully keep Tua and this offense trending upward. No major concerns just yet.

Can't really complain though looking at his stats, no turnovers, no INT's, nice accurate throws for the most part and taking home a W against a division opponent. There's plenty to improve on, but a win is a win and I trust they'll get things cleaned up at this point. No reason not to yet.

I thought the same thing on that play- he rolled out deep but he beat the defender and he had a wide open field to run for the first down. I was actually shocked when he loaded and launched since he had already ran 15-20 yards in a big circle. That was a bad decision but one I can live with.

On another note, we got A LOT of penalties/non-penalties that went our way yesterday. We had a fumble that was ruled not a fumble. We had PI on X against Parker for a TD throw. We had a receiver line up past the LOS (by an inch, but still past) and it wasn't called. I spotted a lot of little stuff where we were clearly in the wrong and the flags didn't come. That alone is a big shift from what we can normally expect versus the Pats. It honestly surprised me.

Well you are the who said it was "That last drive was the best and most hopeful thing I've seen in a while." Nothing was particularly hopeful about a QB who makes:

    1) The decision to throw in that situation when he could have kept the clock running by running for the 1st and laying down.
    2) When the decision to throw was made, bounces it in front of his feet because he lacks arm strength. The receiver was wide open with no one around him.

Tua is not good at sensing his backside pressure. It seems like he is always good for giving up at least one sack/strip fumble per game. They got lucky that they didn’t lose this last one.

Game ONE in yet another new offense system. He didn't look better than he did last year, but he does have better talent around him. Tua is doing a LOT of thinking out there, instead of knowing what to do in the offense by reflex. He is also playing a bit too much hero ball when he just needs to run for some yards or just throw it away.

The Tua we see toward the end of the season is going to better reflect who he is at QB. If there are too many issues, then it's time to look for yet another QB.

It's amazing the flak he is getting for this throw. Nevermind the horrible snap and the bobble which forced a rushed throw, it looks like it may have also been tipped.

Watch it again. the receiver was bracketed by the safeties. Could he have caught it if it wasn't short? Sure, but then he has both safeties on him. That ball should be thrown short, so if it's off it's not a turnover. Not a turnover and not losing yards are the first and second most important outcomes for that play in that situation. It's a hope we get them, if not, be safe because we just need 2 yards.

You seem like you are struggling with my point. Why do you think that the 2nd and 2 incompletion was the drive? They made the first on the very next play. Yes, Tua should have kept it and slid before contact, that's even safer than the throw, and it looks like he gets to the LoS if he does. That doesn't change the drive at all though. First down ends the game and that's what the call was for. Pats still had a timeout so clock doesn't matter as much. First down means game over, not a first and you get a field goal and kickoff, or turn over on downs and more plays. Dolphins were aggressive in a safe way and kept the ball for the last 5 minutes of the game while moving down the field. You aren't happy with this because of one play that didn't change a thing. It's not like it was almost a turnover, or lost yards and made the 3rd harder. It's almost like you have a narrative that you are forcing. Hmmmmm.

I think everything about that last Drive was McDaniels saying. We've likely won this game, let's try some **** out.

It seems the Pats had already waved the White Flag. After the Turnover on Downs, the game was effectively over.

No way were they going to score even on Pick 6, get the ball back and score again. I guess it's possible, but very unlikely so the offence got some free Live Practice.

OK, so I was one of the ones who wasn't pleased seeing this throw from Tua. I did suggest it may have been tipped though, from this angle it certainly does appear it may have been which lets him off the hook on missing Hill on the play. I'm good with that, I'm not good with the "horrible snap and bobble forcing a rushed throw" part.

Was there a bad snap? Yup. Absolutely.

Did it force Tua to bobble/gain control of the ball. Yup. Absolutely.

Was he rushed to throw? Nope. He clearly regains his composure, drops back a couple steps, has his feet set and fires a throw. That's what bothered me about missing Hill on that play. He did a great job coming down with the high snap, taking his drop back, setting his feet and throwing. I figured it had to be deflected at the LOS or he just didn't have a good grip on that ball. Sure looks to me now though like it was indeed tipped, so a non issue here st the end of the day

No. Lol. It really shouldn't be thrown short. It should be thrown on a line as fast as possible. Giving the receiver time to brace for the hit, and back into end zone for TD. Unfortunately, Captain Noodle Arm can't make that kind of throw running, so it died, and it bounced well before the receiver. Again though, the smartest play was to just run for the first down and slide in bounds. Tua decided to do the dumber thing as he usually does. His arm just isn't good enough though to run and throw. How many more bounced throws do you need to see?

Doesn't get anymore NFL open than this.

That clearly shows the safeties right there. You don't "riffle" that in there under the circumstances, you don't throw a pass that your WR is going to get smoked on. You throw it low and so it's an incompletion or the WR is already on the ground when catching. He missed the pass, but missed low. Not throwing would have been the better decision. Situational football. Do you think Waddle should have put is head down and picked up the first the play before?
