Well it is here. We cast off the high priced vets and are in transition year one of blowing up a team and starting over. Looks kind of bad doesn't it? Just keep in mind this is the painful purging process that has been put off for far too long. We suck, and we might suck for a long time. The saving grace is that we will continually pick early and it can't last forever with out front office. I am totally not shocked by what I have seen so far and I am patient enough to give this FO a chance to right this ship, and I don't expect miracles this year.

"""We cast off the high priced vets and are in transition year one of blowing up a team and starting over."""

The funny or sad thing is, we have been doing that since we 2004 when we sent Adewale Ogunleye to the Bears.:(

The fact that we suck isn't the question in my mind...the fact that the staff seems to be making "Camcam" type personnel and coaching moves is what is being questioned...This looks eerily the same from that perspective...

But how can anyone turn this around in one season is my problem with this. It's not a good situation and I think we have to be patient.

I really like what our front office has done on the talent front. So far they appear to have hit on a lot of guys.

I am a little more patient that some others with the coaching staff. We have a young team, rookie head coach, and new offensive system. I assume it's going to take time to gel. Hopefully Sparano will "Fail Forward Fast" ( Cam Cameron  ) and get things rolling after a couple of weeks. By week six I hope we see some major improvement in this area.

Go Phins! Keep it close! This week :).

With the draft class yes, with FA no. With the exception of Bess this has been one of the worst offseasons Ive ever seen.

I stated in another thread yesterday that this years team has less to do with talent, more to do with system guys. Unfortunately the system guys who were brought in don't have any talent

Here Here I agree 100% we have been hearing that for 4 years now that we are rebuilding, this is the longest rebuilding project the NFL has ever seen if thats the case!

Though I do believe this year it is true! The front office is not pretending to put a superbowl contender out there. Basically they are evaluating talent for 16 game and than going to add more young talent each year to whoever makes it from this year...

Let look on the good side. Our offensive line is going to be GREAT! do you know why I say this? it's easy facing 8-9 man fronts all years is going to give them experience that will last them for many years to come! Next year they can not say they have not seen this defense yet.

If our Oline gels and stay together for a few years we will be fine there.

Henne is going to be the QB we see the phins go into the playoffs with. He needs to see playing time in each game were getting hammered on Just like the Arizona game.. Great real game experience even against 2nd teamers on defense. Working with our #1's is important

We need to address the wideout and secondary hard the next few years

I think we need to BUY a young stud wideout and not expect some college guy to be able to make it in the NFL. We need a YOUNG NFL standout to be our #1... we can draft a #1 and use him as the #2 for a few years as well

We need to at least 1 SHUT DOWN corner... Keep will Allen and we need a few safeties... This needs to be addressed in the offseason immediately if we can not stop the opposing offenses 50% of the time were dead already...

This is a rebuilding project, but it does not exclude us being able to ***** about poor play and shotty play calling and preperation...

I think you are right on the FA front. I guess I was just so happy to have a good draft for once :). I didn't really keep up the FA market this year. So I don't know how many players we passed on that would have been a good fit for us.

Thought on Justin Smiley? Is he just playing.. meh?

well you know what? FA may not be what we want but what were the things said about that?

    1. Special Teams a key
    2. OL a priority
    3. DL a priority

Makes sense... They are building from the inside out. Build depth and ST while fortifying the trenches. Seems like a logical and cerebral plan being executed. In the meantime search for wayward talent.

Last year was all about desperation and making moves that could win 1 game. Fear not compatriots, there is a plan! "Patience Daniel-son!"

Smiley has been servicable from what I hear. Its hard to say though. The whole O-Line has been bad. Last year our strength was run blocking, this year we cant run block to save our life.

except for Wilford and Crocker, what FA has been a disappointment so far? Justin Smiley, Akin Ayodele, Reggie Torbor, and Randy Starks have all looked solid to me.

this is a new regime and if you respect it, then you need to erase your memory of the past....stop categorizing this regime with past futile ones, they dont deserve that yet, bottom line is, its not fair..... I apologize if iam misinterpeting your tone.

The previous regimes acted like the word "rebulding" was a bad word and kept using the word retooling. Parcells has been the first one to not pull any punches and state outright that this team was bad. He said this team didn't have any talent and it was pretty much to the point.
Since 2004 this team has considered free agents to be the answer and the draft as an afterthought. We have continually been in cap trouble because of the approach that was being used. We now have the most cap space we have had in a long, long time. Now if someone comes along that we really want and can use we have the cap to grab them and still not be in cap trouble. Sure we could have signed a couple of high priced free agents but would they have made this a playoff team?

Its JMO but we need to build mainly through the draft with young players and put ourselves back into a position to be able to fill needs through the draft as they are needed not all at one time as is the case now.
Terrible drafts have put us in this situation and like it or not that is what its going to take to make this team a good team. trading draft picks, wasting draft picks and spending cap money to bring in high priced vets will only keep us where we are now and have been for a long time.

Give them time to GEL HK. Take this into consideration

LT- Long. Rookie and obviously new to the team
LG- Smiley. New to team, and will be solid here for years
C-Satale. I watched him closer than anybody last Sunday. He struggled at times, but I still see ALL-PRO written all over this kids back
RG-Kid off the street. Losing the rookie (Also first year on team obviously) really hurt.
RT-Carey. First time he has played there since...well I dont even know how long.

All in all, I think this unit will really produce, its just going to take them time to gel.

The defensively line is VERY NOTICEABLY BETTER....and YOUNGER.

what upsets me about the o-line....is in preseason it seemed, every snap on a run play....we had an amazing push and atleast gained 3-4 yards....we were blowing 1st teamers off the ball.....havent seen that thus far....i see us getting better of course....this team will be like a bottel of wine....better with age....and hopefully we keep the core group together...for a long time

Talent acquisition is not what is bothering me now...What's bothering me now is how the coaching staff is using the talent that we have. I realize that it takes time to bring the talent level to where it needs to be. I don't expect to win every game, etc...but I do have to questions as to what personnel are in and not in, etc.. He'll lose the veterans again if this continues...and we all saw what happens when that occurs...

Truth be told, there arent many "Veterans" left as it is.

I think we are going to have to wait and see how this plays itself out.

Remember, one win this next weekend and we are ALL singing a different tuna. :knucks:

I didn't doubt that we would not be very good this year, what I don't care for is how we are not doing the little things like Tackling Well and Avoiding Boneheaded Penalties that hand the ball over to the opponent.

And I would like to see more physical play out of our guys, were are the hits? Were are people being blown up or pancaked?

Chargers are a great example of how a team can become pretty good after a long run of sucking donkey ball sweat with some good drafting.

Torbor has really only played on ST from what Ive seen. Ayodele is serviceable but had to guard Boldin on Sunday, ouch. Starks has been OK.

Still a pretty sad list though dont you think?

I'm assuming your talking about the Cover Zero play right? If so, from what I've read, Crocker was assigned to Boldin on that play but Crocker wasn't lined up right.

Maybe. I heard on 790 that Ayodele was assigned to cover Boldin while he was in the slot. The person who said it (cant remember now) could be wrong but thats what was said.

Torbor was winning the starting ILB job until Ayodele was named the starter out of nowhere imo. Starks has looked pretty good. Overall, the list has been pretty good imo. Only negatives, imo, is Wilford and Crocker. The positives from free agency/trade are Bess, Carpenter, Pennington, Fasano and Starks. I think Josh McCown was a win/lose situation. We payed him but we got a draft pick for him.

I think Fasano is EASILY going to end up being the FA steal of the year. This kid is VERY solid and brings much to the table. We gave practically nothing for him.

there's not much to say that hasn't already been said. i am thoroughly disappointed with our team right now. yes we're rebuilding, but we've been "rebuilding" for how many years now? it is difficult when you switch regimes every damn year. in THAT regard, yes, this regime should get the benefit of the doubt.

BUT, they somehow have apparently made the team we had last year worse. on paper we seem to have improved (with the draft & talent development), but the stats don't lie. we are currently performing worse than we did last year. look at the first two games last year (passing, rushing, defense, etc).... we performed better last year with a largely-regarded sub-par regime.

the FA acquisitions have NOT paid off at all, i don't know why everyone keeps saying that. McCown, Grigsby, Wilford, Torbor, etc, etc, etc... none of these guys are really paying dividends. the draft? yes, too early to tell. looks somewhat solid (overall) at this point, but still not enough to help. last year's draft? looks all but for nothing at this point.

what is up with ginn? wilford? the o-line? all these changes and i don't see progress... just churning of personnel. its antagonizing and heartbreaking at the same time.

I don't expect miracles. But is it too much to expect progression, instead of regression, from week to week? I'm not seeing that. In fact I think we look worse then last year. And that is what bothers me. I see no improvement what so ever.

well, comparing this team to last year is apples and oranges. Over half the roster, the coaching staff and front office is all new. New schemes, new strategies, a totally new work style. It's gonna take a few weeks before you start seeing the results. But I certainly see the potential and I think our draft class was/will be phenomenal.
