I like it too and don't find it a big deal everyone is making out of it. IMO he didn't even guarantee a victory.

He's an idiot right now, and he'll remain an idiot if we lose on Sunday.

However, if we win, he becomes a ****ing genius in my book. Einstein v2.

It probably isn't on the board as a motivational tool, but rather in the form of a cartoon or joke. Seriously, we have sucked for quite some time. These guys are probably getting a good laugh from this. :D

I'm just amazed that there's 6 pages of people shocked that JP would say something stupid. I will also make a prediction myself, this week the language filter will break due to overload in the official NE vs. MIA thread.

Joey Porter is an Idiot and Cam and Randy are even bigger idiots for bringing him to our team. He is classless and he is stupid enough to give the other team more motivation. He hasn't made one play for us this year. Hey Joey the Patriots don't fear you either, Your no better a LB then Cassel is a QB. I can't wait untill we can cut this guy. We owe him so much money I know we can't.

a lot of porter supporters on here.

color me opposite on that school of thought. i think porter is a moron and needs to shut the hell up. you're 0-2 on a team that was last place last year with only one victory. further, you aren't even that good of a linebacker and had to fight to crack the starting lineup. you shut the hell up porter. you have no room to talk.

it's one thing to be confident, but it can be done without slamming the other team. i'd rather see someone say something with class. as much as i hate belichick, he always gives us our due. why can't some of our team show some respect to the patriots? they are the perennial division champs.... show some damn respect.

Maybe Joey is stickin his neck out for the team...

After thinkin about it, maybe hes saying this to either sink or swim our season, we need something to break the rythym, the defense looks lackluster and like they have cement in their shoes, hes steppin out on the ledge and sacrificing himself for the team, if he pulls it off, he automatically becomes the leader of the team, and we have life going into the bye.

I understand all the opinions about proving it on the field and all that stuff but maybe just maybe this gets them out of the scared funk that there in, this team has been walkin on eggshells, its why we have been makin all these mental mistakes, these comments may just free them up and let them play, joey is willing to take the hit..

i dont know iam just thinking here, mixed in with a little homerism and just a tad bit of hope. iam hopin Joey's thinking like me, if not and its just pure babbling with no plan then so be it. But what does he have to lose....

Just another perspective to look at this, i myself would like to win without talking first, but theres no denying that something drastic needs to happen to get us out of this rythym that were in....and until henne comes in later in the season were stuck.

for starters there was already a thread about this, don't know if you saw it:
    http://forums.thephins.com/miami-dolphins-discussion/16696-joey-porter-guarantees-victory.html

for seconds, you are giving joey too much credit. he's obviously not an intelligent guy, so i applaud your efforts to find the lining, you are simply giving him way too much credit. he's just being joey porter.

EDIT: and i wish people would stop thinking that if henne came in, that would give us a better chance. it won't.

Obviously not an intelligent guy? You know this because he's a loudmouth? Can I allow that to question yours? I wouldn't. But you shouldn't either based on what we see on TV and read.

    respect does not equal "rooting."

of course i'm rooting for the fins to win on Sunday. that does not change the fact i respect the Patriots. it is a classier thing to do, take the high road.

i know this because i've read his quotes and interviews over the years. you can very much tell if someone has a certain level of intelligence by how they conduct themselves in the press and what they say. If you have read ANY of what Joey Porter has said over the years, you'd know what i'm talking about... has very little to do with being a "loudmouth", more on what he is actually saying & how he conducts himself.

if you want to challenge my aptitude, i ask that you take it to PM and stop with whatever personal agenda you have against me publicly on the boards. And while you're at it, take off the rose-colored glasses you seem to always be wearing.

your probably right, but what if your not, idk its interesting.

As far as henne goes, ive changed my mind about inserting him asap, i get it, we should take it slow and ease him into the role, but ive changed my mind only because of whats best for Chad Henne...not the miami dolphin offense..imo he would immediately change the dynamic and rythym of the offense which would create more sucess on all fronts...iam willing to forego that for whats best for him and our future with him

Cox was actually good at his position though, and was this defense's leader for a period of time. Joey is not our leader, and is just a guy to create bulletin board fodder and make us look stupid for paying him $20M.

Cox was also able to back up his talk by actually winning, and he'd get sacks and make plays. Porter doesn't do any of that.

The title of this thread is misleading. It was a knock on Matt Cassel's skills and even then what he said was he isn't Tom Brady. No quarterback in this league is Tom Brady aside from Peyton Manning so I don't see what the big deal about this.

All I can say about this is he better put up or shutup! If he makes a sack or a sack and an interception I'll start listening. He's just trying to get himself up for the game though, along with the team. That is Porters style of leadership.

His style of leadership does seem to involve a lot of talk with very little action. I'm actually getting a bit sick of it, the guy is collecting a big fat paycheck and is producing close to nothing in return, unless you count his mouth.. If his play was proportional to his mouth, he would be an all-pro again.

Porter so far is not the player that we thought would be production wise, but in reference to the interview I don't see nothing wrong with he's statement, he was only telling the truth. Matt Cassel's is not Tom Brady.

Funny, the guys on PTI who have no problems ripping the Phins (and did a little) yesterday said they had no real problem with it. Wilbon said, Porter said what you're supposed to say, go after the backup QB. Throw everything at him. They also said the younger players will rally around a Porter. Regardless of how he has played and how much the PHins paid him (or should I say Huizenga and Ross) his teammates in the locker room mostly all look up to him.

They may not win, but they're listening to him. Lets just put it down on Sunday and play hard.

i realize this and i agree with you.... but i still wish Porter would just shut the hell up. everything he says is either idiotic, or serves as great bulletin board fodder. we don't need his input on everything. unless he's telling us something we don't already know, shut the eff up.

did you guys see the patriot players responses to his comments? "Joey is a good player", "its just joey being joey, he's a great player", etc, etc.... they didn't knock him, they didn't say he's fallen off, they didn't say he's not as good. they took the high road. the patriots just emit class.... even rodney harrison had a "joey's a good player" comment.

why the piss can't our players take the high road?

because if Peezy was taking the high road then he wouldn't be Peezy. If speaking the truth is considered knocking then so be it. Cassell isn't Brady. Who wouldn't throw the kitchen sink at a backup player that doesn't have much starting experience dating back to high school. I'm hoping we do throw the kitchen sink at Cassell and he ends up like Mr "Deer with headlights pick 6" Feeley.

watch we win and you sensitive guys end up praising Peezy.

I say let Peezy do what he does best and that's yapping. I do find it rather entertaining. don't stop entertaining me now because you are a Fin and let the sensitive fan base get to you. You go Peezy!

    to each his own though.

I don't see the big deal. Cassel isn't Brady is hardly a news flash. I also don't equate what Porter said as any sort of a guarantee.

i think muck summed it up nicely. no one in this thread said porter guaranteed anything... it was the media twisting words for sure.... however porter did allude to this based on his choice of words.

all that said, this has been overblown more than anything else yet this year.

Seems to me a victory Sunday hinges largely on Porter's ability to get to Cassel anyway, along with his ability to amp up Roth to do the same. This is Porters chance to finally make a big difference, if he wants to guarantee it, so be it.
Besides guarantees are always subject to conditions.

Yeah I think a twisting of words.

Instead of saying "It will be good to get our first win" he should have said, "I hope we get our first win."

Wait what? Porter is a loudmouth that fact can be stipulated by everyone. But here he basically is just confident that they will win, and that they're going to attack cassel.

I'd wish he wouldn't say anything until we're successful but ... you don't change a players game in the 9th inning. He is what he is.
