I've been having a tough time at work lately. This has caused me to do some soul searching. The common thread that I keep coming up with is that I don't wait for things to happen. I make them happen. I see something, I want it I go for it. Its that simple. Perhaps the most poignent movie quote of all time to me is "We are men of action. Lies do not become us" said by Wesley aka Dredd Pirate Roberts to Count Ruben in the Princess Bride. I make things happen and I hate when people lie to me.

So what does this have to do with the dolphins and their current inability to win a game if their lives depend on it?

Well I am a person of action. I can't sit by a watch my beloved fins self destruct into a pile of worthlessness without doing something about it. The hard part is that I don't play for the phins. There's nothing whatsoever that I can do to help them win. Sure I can go through game day rituals in hopes that my small actions, thousands of miles away will "guarantee" a win, but deep down, I know nothing I do helps.

That is why losing is so hard on me. I want to do something, but I can't. It is 100% out of my control. All I can do is sit back and watch. Sure I can turn off the tv, leave the house, and go do something constructive, but that will never help. They are loosing and there's not a damn thing that I can do about it.

I suspect that a lot of posters here feel the same way. And that is why losing is so hard on a fan.

I hate losing:wink2: too. It's tough all week, at the gym working out in my Miami Dolphins shorts hearing all the other teams fans giving me grief. Or go to work and the samething. Friends calling and leaving messed up messages"all in fun though", but it's still annoying. I hear ya losing sucks, just so we don't have another season like last season.:pity:

wow, excellent post, and I'm in the same boat. The past couple years have been very frustrating and depressing for me. I have to deal with the ridicule on a daily basis from family, friends, at work, etc. And it makes it much, much tougher.

That said, I'm proud to be a Dolphins fan, and the struggles they've faced the past few years have made me prouder, and that in itself makes times like these a little easier to handle. It's easy to support a team when they're good, and very hard to do so when they're losing and in rebuilding mode. But you know what, it will only make it much sweeter when the wins start coming...I'm gonna be by their side no matter what.

I honestly think that most of us fan's aren't used to the fins being this bad. In the Shula years if the fins had a bad season they always came on strong the next year. (granted we did have a HOF QB)
Every year I literally can't wait for football season to start the week after the superbowl. Then it's all the hype with free agency then the draft... then TC rolls around and my enthusiasm is through the roof. Pre season looks promising and then we get our azzes handed to us in the first two games of the season.:pity: What a let down. But i always have hope that this trend will stop one day...hopefully sooner rather than later. I honestly still have hope that our fins will, at some point this season, show progress. If they can do that then the season will be some what of a success.
But really I think my problem is I'm used to us being the azz kickers & not the azz kickees:no:

the lack of respect and irrelevancy hurts a lot. this was always such a proud franchise and miami mattered every year, even if we blew it in the end. teams coming to miami, especially early in the year, were in for a tough game. it seems those days are long gone and the fans are left with nothing but embarrassment and ridicule to contend with.

I need to see some heart from the team, I need to see them play angry, with urgency. I want to see them play like the way I feel. I don't want to be ashamed and disappointed anymore.

You have to have hope, if you don't have hope there is nothing left but anger and despair.
We at least have a quality control person now in Parcells and he won't accept failure and mediocrity, I really believe that. He is one person who doesn't mence words and is not afraid to hurt peoples feelings and to replace players or coaches who don't fit.
I can understand the feelings of helplessness and the despair and I know that there is nothing we can do about it.
I have hope however in knowing Parcells can do something and I believe he will do whats necessary to turn things around, that is if he stays here long enough to see things through.

It hurts because the reason I became a phin fan in the first place has totally disappeared. But fear not, we WILL be back!

I've loved this team for so long, I have to hope they turn it around.
I'm not a crier, but when they pushed Shula out and then Dan, I did. Shula retired on mine and his birthday and that hurt. I really got depressed over both of them.
As most of you know, I don't have much faith in bp and his motives. I can't help it, I have never liked him, no matter what team he was involved in.
I feel like if we can get some consistency and some players with heart, we can turn this around.
Maybe, Zach was sick and maybe JT acted like a jerk, but I still feel letting them both go was an act of "I'm here now" by bp. No matter what anyone says those two were the heart and soul of this team and kept hanging in there, no matter what. Plus, I never heard JT say he wanted to go anywhere else, I think he was pushed out also. ( please, no talk of the dancing junk) I don't think bp's in the back ground on the coaching aspect like he and Sparano say. I just cannot imagine him sitting back and keeping his mouth shut.
I am still proud to be a fan of this team and wear my colors proudly. I don't care what others say or do. There's never been a time I've given up on them.
The glory years were wonderful, exciting and we have had some of the best players in the NFL. Now, we're in a mess like other teams have been and it's hard to see it, but we have to start somewhere and get this team to be a unit. We need players who have heart, desire and are willing to work hard.
We need coaches that stand by our men, push them to be better etc. Not someone who just talks the talk (not speaking of Tony in particular).
I'm so tired of seeing our team cut to the quick by every sports caster and even some on here. Maybe they deserve it, I don't know, but it still hurts. I've had certain players I can't stand on the team, but I just can't condemn the whole team.
Sorry, I rambled and I hope it isn't to jumbled up, but I tried.
    Love my Dolphins!!!

    i'm 100% with you girl.

i hate when they lose b/c it wrecks my weekend and my attitude on monday morning coming into work. all my friends up here know i'm a HUGE fins fan, so they give me crap everytime they lose. its getting to the point where i avoid contact with some friends just b/c i don't feel like going through the jabbing that day. my only saving grace is i'm a gator fan too, so at least they typically win which gives me some happiness for the weekend.

the bad part: this last weekend the gators had a bye, and the fins were absolutely slaughtered! i could have used a gator win to offset the fins loss this last weekend, it was especially painful!

    Slightly left of center
True football fans, even those who aren't as cool as we are, know that this team may be down now, but the Miami Dolphins still, even after 1-15 have the highest winning percentage in the history of the NFL. How many teams have never even made the Super Bowl, let alone won one?

    This too shall pass.

There is no doubt that losing is hard on us all, but it is a very necessary evil. Our love for our team is just like our love for other people, sometimes it's tested. We have to experience the bad times and the lows so we can truly appreciate the good times. I have faith I will get to celebrate a championship season with my father during our lifetimes, but it already feels like a lifetime since we were competetive. I just have to remind myself that we can and will get there, i just don't know when. Besides, my Dad didn't raise a quitter, he raised a Dolphin fan.
