Hitman, that’s actually a silly statement…”Tua’s a spot thrower”. All quarterbacks are spot throwers. They all throw the ball to where the receiver is GOING to be.

How many times do you see quarterbacks and receivers talking…sometimes going at it when the quarterback threw to one spot and the receiver ran to another?

    They’re ALL spot throwers

No, not every throw is a spot throw. When Herbert threw a laser passed the defender who was all over his reciever that was not a spot throw, when a QB waits for his reciever to get open or throws him open that is not a spot throw. When a QB buys time for recievers to get open and throws it when they are actually open that is not a spot throw.

What Tua has been doing is throwing to predetermined spots on the field expecting recievers ro be there based on timing routes. He is throwing it to a spot regardless of the reciever being open or not.

Defenses picked up on it and are now disrupting the timing by jamming recievers and clogging up the predetermined spots by dropping linebackers and safeties into those spots.

Tua has become predictable, and defense s are predicting where he is going to throw. He needs to stop being predictable and throwing to predetermined spots.

Again, no big mystery why Tua is all of a sudden struggling the last couple of games. Defenses have figured him out and he has to change it up now and adjust on the fly. So far he has not adjusted and keeps throwing to the same predetermined spot even though there are multiple defenders in the area. He is lucky he didn't have at least 3 or 4 interceptions last game.

    Tua throws to predetermined spots.

    Tua throws to predetermined spots.

Defense found out Tua throws to predetermined spots.

He needs to stop throwing to predetermined spots.

Tua keeps throwing to predetermined spots.

Predetermined spots. Predetermined spots predetermined spots.

There's numerous other videos out there showing Tua going through his progressions. He had a bad game. Something is off

Tua is held to such ridiculous standards sometimes.

Well it seems some of you don't understand what spot throwing is and why Tua is now struggling. It's like some big unexplainable mystery to you why he is struggling so I just tried spelling it out to see if you finally get it.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous to expect that your superstar QB won't just throw it into triple coverage, just because that's the spot he saw pre-snap and thought "that's where the receiver will be when I finish my drop" then he takes the ball, finishes his drop and throws to that spot, despite the fact that the receiver is two yards short of his spot, and has two defenders draped all over him.

    Yeah it's ridiculous.

Yeah, it's not the first time a quarterback threw a ball into triple coverage. Tua isn't the only quarterback in the league that has interceptions dropped. I guarantee every quarterback throws a ill-advised pass into double/triple coverage every game.

Did you see Mahomes play this week? He lost the MVP because of his terrible passes and was lucky Wilson got knocked out of that game because the Broncos were gonna win.

It's only Tua that has every pass scrutinized.

Remember Herbert's pick six against the Chiefs in the game he blew?

He threw to a spot and his receiver wasn't there. Whoops. Six the other way. Tua is the only spot thrower though.

Broncos have one of the best defenses in Football, and Mahomes still put up 34 points on them and won the game, not a valid comparison. Yeah he had some bad interceptions, but it was not because he made up his mind where he was going pre snap and throwing to a spot.

Again, not the same thing, and Hebert isn't doing that every snap. If it's not there he is checking down or scrambling around to buy time and letting his recievers get open. Tua needs to also try and go off script sometimes and create. That's where Herbert is head and shoulders above Tua.

Yes, those were nice, but he needs to do a lot more and be able to throw on the run also. Again, Tua does not suck, but he has some serious limitations in terms of arm talent and athletic ability. Herbert is just on a whole other level than him in those categories.

Ok, so how did he do that if he is programmed to take the snap and immediately throw to a "predetermined spot"?

You see where I'm getting at?

When you say he throws to a "predetermined spots every play", as you so mentioned several times in one post before, it's just not correct and is used as a mechanism to try to fit your narrative.

I like Holland sticking up for Tua, but he has been invisible this year as well as the rest of the secondary.

Of course he doesn't do it every single snap, but he does it too damn often which is what defenses have picked up on. He rarely goes off script, and when he does he is usually not very good at it. He can scramble on occasion but he is not the best scrambler, and he does not have a strong enough arm to make good throws on the run and off platform.

I love how you quantify every argument against your position as an absolute. So now saying that Tua throws to a spot, or Tua needs to be better off script, you have turned into that he never does anything but throw to a spot, so that you can then show one example of him not throwing to a spot, or doing something off script, to try try to get an easy win.

It's really, really disingenuous posting, and you've been doing it for years.

I can't argue. But to be fair, if the offense had shown up the past two weeks, the defense was well good enough to win both games. It's hard to play defense from behind and giving any team too many bites at the apple will result in the defense looking bad.

Cherry picking one game and one stat (not even the most relevant one) to make your point?

How about #2 in passer rating, #1 in Y/A and #2 in TD% in the league at the moment for Tua. Compared to #12 in passer rating, #27 in Y/A and #21 in TD% for Herbert. And you think Herbert is somehow "elite" lol.

At this point, I’m going to see how the rest of this season plays out before making any judgment. His career QB Rating is 95 which would put him around 10th or 11th in the nfl. It’s really hard to tell if this is a revision to the mean or just 2 bad games. So far he’s one of the best passers in the nfl.

If he and McDaniel are one trick ponies then it will be exposed over time. My hope is they both evolve and this isn’t the same old Dolphins slamming our hopes and dreams into the pavement against the curb.

Again, you are just looking at stats. We think Herbert is better because we have eyes and watch games. Tua's numbers are inflated by having monster games against some of the worst defenses in the league and by having the best recievers corp in the league.

Also by using a clever system which hides his lack of arm strength and has now been figured out, and he does not seem able to adjust.

Right. Also, I DO love that he feasted on weak opponents (but not the against the Chargers lol), but you can't go into famine mode against the good teams. He seems to disappear in big games.

To be fair here and Tua aside Holland hasn't been here for the last 20 plus years so he has no clue what it is like to root for this team when we see the same disappointing **** year after year. You want the fans to believe in you then change the damm narrative!

The sample size is very small to make such a strong statement. It also coincided with an offensive line that really played poorly and an unfortunate case of the jitters against San Francisco. Don't underestimate the injury early in the season so I can completely understand why he pressed against San Fran despite not needing to. I will give him a pass under Flores as his HC was actively trying to sabotage his career here.

Now if we go out and lose the rest of our games and the offense continues to sputter then I think your argument will hold a lot more weight.

If Tua has a bad game again in this weather against a good team what will the narrative be not just here but nationally?
I feel if he does he be mentally shot for the rest of the year
Let's hope he turns it around on Sat night or season might be over.

Dude.. there is NO elite QB with mediocre stats given large sample size. Also, Herbert isn’t considered elite by almost every NFL fan.. just people like you who care about physical traits more than actual performance. It’s performance that matters.

I personally think he is mentally weak and crumbles when things don't go his way. Many examples and even the coach says he gets down on himself.
With the weapons he has he had no excuse for 3 bad games in a row .If we lose 30-28 and he has good game I'm fine with it.If he plays like last 2 games then he is just a flat out choker!
I was sold on him until last week..
Time to pick it up dude.

I think he's just overmatched physically, and isn't the smartest tool in the shed either (ie wonderlic scores). The scheme and opponent was hiding his inability. Now, the chickens have come home to roost.

For example, on ESPN this morning they were showing Tua's QBR throwing in the middle vs outside the middle. And he was 1st in the middle and 17th outside. Defenses get it. Take away the middle and he's toast. He doesn't have the ability.

Well I will let the season play out but not very optimistic he will turn it around.
I expect him to struggle vs Bills,Good game vs Packers and then struggle again against Pats and Jets.
If this holds true he is not the guy.
He is 0-3 in games under 45F and played terrible all three games This was definitely a question of mine before season started.
